My Falken Wildpeak AT3 have been surprisingly quiet. I figured I'd have to crank the shitty audio system to drown out tire noise after I installed them....not the case at all.

+1 on Falken Wildpeak AT3w. I’ve had them for about 15k miles and they still ride great with minimal road noise for how aggressive the tread is. I’ve heard Cooper and Toyo start out quiet but get pretty noisy after a few thousand miles. I haven’t run either brand, though, so can’t tell you from experience with those.

Another vote for Cooper AT3 XLTs. I don't hear any road noise at all and they're lighter than most.

I went and looked up the specs for the Cooper AT3 XLTs, you guys are right, they are almost the same weight as regular street tires. For @Badknees and @Zero One Actual and anyone else that has those Coopers, were you able to avoid some of the mpg hit that comes from all terrains?

I don't have exact numbers, but I think I still dropped one to two MPGs after I installed the Coopers. On the dash display, I used to run around 13 MPG in town and now it's more in the 11-12 MPG range. Of course, I'm not correcting MPG for the change due to difference in tire diameters, so it might not be so bad. I will say these tires are very quiet, have good wet traction, and ride great as well. I do feel a little balance issue on cold days until the tires warm up but I think this is to be expected on most AT tires (at least I felt the same thing with KO2s I've run on other vehicles).

It is challenging, but can be done. I made a concerted effort on two full tanks and managed almost 16mpg both times. My commute includes country roads, freeway, stalled traffic, and then lots of lights on city streets.

I then moved my display off of the est mpg gauge and just drove. Getting about 13.8.

I have Wildpeaks and they are very quiet. That said, my next AT will be the Coopers as the Wildpeaks are so heavy it influences the rotation of earth when I drive.

I've tried Cooper Discoverer ATT(?), Nitto Terra Grappler and General Grabber AT2 and ATx all-terrain tires over the years. All were true load range E all-terrains with blocky tred patterns and all of them start out quieter than any mud terrain.

They are all good tires, but the Nitto and General tires were easier to balance. The Nittos and Coopers need frequent rotation or the edge tred starts scalloping and they get loud.

I liked the Nittos so I had 3 sets, but they have the softest rubber compound and wore the fastest. They were better than the Coopers in the snow.

The Coopers lasted the longest, but that was on a Tacoma so the comparison may not be valid.

The Generals Grabbers last longer than the Nittos, they wear evenly and they have the most siping so they're the best in the snow. They also seem to remain quieter throughout their service life. After the Grabber AT2s wore out I got the ATx which superseded the AT2 model when it was discontinued.

My dad was a dealer for Cooper tires so I paid dealer cost for them. The Generals were also less expensive than the Nittos

Others may be better, but these are the three that I've tried.

I will throw a vote out for the Les Schwab Open Range AT. They have been far out performing my Coopers that they replaced and GY Ultraterrains. Smooth, Quiet, and awesome in all terrain so far to include snow.

Not a helpful comment, but I just wanted to say that's a cool truck, and the angle and focus of the pic makes it look like a toy truck on a little mound of dirt.

My only aftermarket AT tire purchases were on my Tacoma. The Nitto Terra Grappler looked awesome, but we noisy and the treadwear was horrible. Choppy and snaggled, and soooooo noisy.

BFG AT's were great though. Quiet, smooth, and wore perfectly--even with my shoddy rotation schedule.

I'm in this camp. Truck is on the second set, got 70k miles out of the first set. My wifes Element is on these as well and can cut through snow without sliding around. They won't win any "cool looking tire" points but they get the job done. Good in rain as well.

The new Cooper Rugged Trek is a closer match to the Toyo Open Country ATIII.. I have two trucks, one with the Toyo ATII and the other with Cooper Rugged Trek. Both excellent tires. I personally do not think the Cooper XLT is in the same category. While the sidewalk of the XLT has nice tread pattern, the surface tread pattern is very highwayish. If your wheeling is mainly highway and limited to no off road then the Michelin LTX is by far you’re best bet. If you wheel off road then go with one that offers decent tread blocks. As many have pointed out there are many tires that provide that.

I like the General ATX as well. Just put a set on my new method wheels. Had two sets of KO2’s before that and nothing bad to say about them.
The ATX are nice looking, quiet and smooth. I also expect them to be better in winter because of the extra siping and we have a long winter here.

General ATX are good, had really good luck with BFG KO2, the Toyo AT3 look great.

I use Duratracs, but I wouldn’t consider them quiet. If your emphasis is quiet, you don’t want super aggressive tires with big tread blocks and aggressive voids.

Siping and tighter tread patterns should be your focus.

Once you leave stock size tires you will take a hit MPG wise. You can go done the re gear road at that point. I also am a horrible test subject because I run the 37 inch Cooper AT3. So ummmm ya. I lost some MPGs. Hahaha.

Yeah, maybe i'm not that picky, but I rolled out of the tire store expecting to hear something, didn't sound any different to me. I've been running that set of BFGs for over a year and half now, 15-20k miles. Tread wear has been better then expected as well.
