I also have a Broil King but I can't remember which model. My dad did the research and said that was the one to buy then we each got ourselves one. My only complaint is it needs frequent cleaning or the food burns, even when it's turned all the way down.

Possibly. When I was doing some research to buy a weber, the "spirit" models were the Chinese junk. Seemed to be info on grilling/weber forums. Hence why the spirits were considerably cheaper.

Might have to check these out a little more, my Home Depot special needs to see the dumpster.

How do the burgers turn out on the griddle? Do you have a grate for grilling or is it all flat top cooking?

    you are correct
    https://www.weber.com/US/en/manufacturing.html

I wish i had researched this more. The physical quality of the spirit is very good for being an import, however, it is just not worth more than the other chinese made stuff. The price has gone up 75$ Since i bought it too. The btu’s just aren’t there to sear anything. I put an adjustable regulator on mine to up the gas pressure. Yeah it will probably ruin the grill sooner, but i gotta have some heat for searing

OP- decide what price range you want, a cheaper or nice one. The genesis grill is legit, unfortunately my wife would shoot me if i ever bought myself something that nice.

Our 4 burner napoleon lasted us 22 years, couldn't afford a new one and got this weber at Home Depot for just under $900 cdn. Wife says "WTF are you gonna cook on that!" I said "but it was on sale and I got another 10% off." This thing burns gas like it's a tundra.IMG_20180716_174145.jpg

It's all a flat surface. Oddly enough, I haven't cooked burgers on it yet. I'm sure they'll be perfect and juicy, just as every piece if chicken and steak has. One would think it's no different than cooking in a skillet, but that hasn't been the case for me.

Now, if you're looking for the flavor of gas or charcoal or wood, it's not for you.

I've always had gas grills and honestly, tasting the flavor gas left behind creeped me out a little. I don't miss it one bit. I was actually looking to get a traeger pellet grill before someone mentioned the blackstone. The versatility is what I love. Meat, veggies, eggs, fried rice...all at one time? A whole pack of bacon and plenty of space left for French toast? Corn on the cob with steak? Huge time and cleanup saver. You just scrape it to the back and out the little drip hole and you're all set.

And did I mention potatoes in the air fryer drawers? Perfection, and twice as fast as the oven.

CharBroil SS 4 burner found on eBay new for $200 in 2012. No problems so far, the flame is starting to "yellow" a bit so I assume it's time to service or replace the burners. I use it 40 times + or - per year

For those of you with large blackstones, do you store them outside? If so, how do you keep them from rusting? I have a blackstone for camping but might be swayed to get one for the patio when my grill craps out……just worried about leaving it out in the elements as i don’t have space indoors to store it

I've got the same one, just a slightly newer model. The 'man' in me (Tim Taylor arr Arr ARR!) would love a bigger grill, but honestly we don't often have huge parties that would require a bigger grill, so we stick with this one. I don't know how old it was once my father in law bought it, but he bought it several years back, refreshed it for me (he's a bike guy and buys/fixes/sells them) and gave it to me. As much as I'd love a newer grill....honestly, in October or so I'll go out, clean it out thoroughly, replace the grate and anything else needing done, and will save a ton on a new one. :)

I considered (still am) adding a Blackstone for breakfast/burgers. I have our gas Weber for when I'm lazy or when I don't care about smoke/fire flavors. I have a WSM for smoking ribs, briskets, butts, etc., and a Webet Kettle grill for steaks, chops, etc. Good thing our patio is 10x30! lol

As mentioned before, I have had 20 grills recently, haha.

2 of those being a 4-burner Blackstone, not 4-burner Camp Chef griddle.

Camp Chef for the win for sure! It is stainless and made better. It also gets quite a bit hotter than the Blackstone. It will really sear and get super hot! Camp Chef griddles for the win for anyone contemplating a griddle!!91EAFF88-F928-4D84-B921-8CCFCB6CC2D7.jpg

I like that unit, what's the cleanup like on a griddle?
Do you have to keep it oiled?

Thanks less than 10 minutes to clean up after you eat wipe it down oil it up and MoveOn. If I get a server weeks without cooking on it I fire it up for a little grease wipe it down and toss the food on. A little grease catcher is really nice and you can sire on the right side. I bought mine at Lowe’s about two years ago and I think it was about 300

You can get a griddle plate to put on your gas grill. That way you convert the gas grill that you already have into a griddle, and can easily switch back to grill mode if you need to. Several different options available on the market.

Have some history withe Weber and was always a fan until recently. Had on the smaller ones for years at one house, started right up every time. Not sure what model, but it was like a 300.00 at the time 25 years ago. Had to replace parts here or there. Upgraded about 8 years ago to a Genesis in our current house with a natural gas connection. Super grill, but expensive. Think it was around 800.00 at the time, now they're more. Have a cabin I rent in the mountains of GA. Originally wanted something larger, stainless, but didn't want to spend the money on a Genesis, so went with a big, beautiful Kitchenaid grill. Rusted out in no time. The chassis is not made of the heavy cast iron/steel/what it is that Weber has. I couldn't replace the parts because it rusted out pretty bad. Replaced it with a Spirit 310 - paid 450.00 on sale. burner rusted out at about 4 years. For convenience, I bought another a new Spirit 310 and replaced it, but kept the old one, bought a new burner and replaced it and now have a backup weber in storage so when the other one acts up, I can swap them out in a pinch and fix that one. The second Spirit was 575.00! If I had to do it again, I'd probably go with the Genesis and be done with it.

Didn't realize the Spirits were Chinese made.

The Camp Chef FTG 600 has a removable griddle, with a grill beneath it. So you can do either.

On a gas grill with flame, some of the fats drip down onto the vapor tents, burn up, and end up back in the burger.

You don't get that with the flat top, so you don't get that burned, charred taste.

Most pubs and good burger joints cook theirs on a flat top, so it's a lot like what you're used to getting at restaurant, unless you do smash burgers, which are BOMB!

I only make smash burgers these days, and I ain't going back!

And even if you’re a communist and buy a gas “grill” you need, need, NEED to invest in GrillGrates. They’ll change your life—no joke. Your wife will jump you 5x a day, your kids will respect and obey you and neighbors will pee themselves just a little bit in awe of the residential grill god that you are when you drive by.

    GrillGrates. Do it.

    Do it now.
