I'm no expert on 03 and up 1st gen but could it have something to do with JBL system in newer truck. Pictures of harnesses would be helpful too. May have to wait for someone more educated to chime in though.

Might have to remove the amp behind all the ac settings. That’s what I had to do.

Amp is the silver thing in the photo. It has a different plug.

I was wondering about that. Just wasnt sure what all was changed in 03. I've only messed with the early trucks (00,01,02) and knew that the JBL system came around later and makes aftermarket audio a pain but yes may just need to remove amp from behind HVAC controls. Just need to know if he has the JBL system or not.

Yep, pretty much the only two factors why there are differentiated plugs.

Went through and re did everything audio in my truck, OEM amp made it a pain in the ass. Crutchfield might have a readyharness, except you have to order it with the radio you are buying it so its basically custom. Probably cant help since you are using a radio you already have

6B0664B0-2A16-4D09-BCF1-F02C528E191E.jpg These do not fit the plugs in the 04
    They did fit the 02
The off the shelf kit is the same as this.
Looked through YouTube but no relevant videos.
Haven’t had a go at the amp yet

Yes that is the correct harness for no amp system. Do you know if your newer truck has a JBL system or not. Could you post pictures of the factory head unit in new truck? Maybe the wire harness in the newer truck too

    Hello all,
First off thank you for your helpful posts.
So after I removed the amp the plugs from the amp matched perfectly with new unit.
    I am a moron.
    Thanks though.
