I joined the forum because of the rust issue that I have with my 2006 Tundra Crew cab. I love the vehicle but at 109000 mi. I have significant rust issues with the underbody of the truck( I don't live near a coastal area). I took it in to the dealer as a part of the recall and the dealer coated the frame that was visible. It wasn't until I had to mount the spare tire 3 years later that I discovered he didn't even drop the tire to coat the portion of the frame it covered! (He fixed this) I found out that the recall didn't cover the axles and in particular the differential housing. My mechanic got a replacement from a yard but it was in worse shape than my axle. At this point I'm going to try to flex seal the housing in the hopes that it will give me a couple of more years of life on the vehicle. Its a little comforting to know that there are other owners that are having the same issues and I'm looking forward to seeing what solutions they come up with.
Thanks for letting me rant a little.

Where are you located? Sorry to hear the rust monster is ruining your truck. Did you buy it new?

Welcome. Scrape of that rubberized protectorant, wirebrush off the rust with a powered wire wheel and apply POR-15 to help protect from further rust damage.

Wear scrap clothes, gloves and something to cover your hair as that stuff gets everywhere and doesn’t come off in the wash. Use a tarp to keep from having it spill on your driveway.

After that just worry about occasional touch up every few years and monitor inside the boxed portion of the frame rails as they will rust inside out.

Salty roads in your area have done your truck in. Coating the frame has worsened the situation for some. It traps the moisture beneath the coating and accelerates the rusting process. Rusting is occurring inside the frame rails also and is not coated. Several threads in here about diff cover repairs that you may have already read. Seems the slap some goo on it to patch it or cut it off and weld a new one on are most popular. Generally speaking, oiling the frame and components helps to keep the moisture out. Just spraying the exposed metal parts with PB blaster has worked for many to keep rusting at bay. Or at least minimize it.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! I hate to hear about such a bad experience, and thank you for sharing. I do hope your truck lasts as long as you want it to, even with the rust issues.
