I've been trying to see where catalytic converter thefts are more prevalent than others. I hate reading the threads where someone has already fell victim, but am curious to see from a country wide prospective how bad it is in your area. I look to people's profile, but some don't list their location. So if you would be willing, post up where you are from and how bad converter theft is in your area.

I live in Monroe CT, and it seems there are a few but ,it's not bad..... YET !

    I am Valhalla protected.

Torrance California.(Los Angeles county) I made a thread about having our Sequoia driver side cat stolen on Father’s Day. It’s pretty bad around here. But our wonderful police department has really cracked down. They caught over 20 people recently during a large sting operation. Mostly people from surrounding cities coming into our neighborhoods to take advantage of us.

You aren't too far from me (Wolcott/Terryville). I'm working in Newington and have been told by co-workers that cat thefts were pretty high here a few months back. Not sure about now.

Lol, not surprised. I'm sure East Bay and South Bay would get hit real hard.

Because if there was no market, there’d be no incentive to steal the cats. Needs to be that buyers take the cat off the vehicle after verifying the register owner. Because, seriously, who but a thief, carries a used cat into a recycling yard?

The scrap yards make it lucrative by not being regulated, thereby providing the incentive.

However it’s not just recycling yards anymore. FB marketplace has adds by buyers posting g by region that they’ll be in an area… basically mobile fences that buy cats in bulk and sell them oversees.

So by not being regulated its the manufacturer fault. I guess you could say its the owners fault for leaving vehicle with such a lucrative cats being available to take.

Its common sense, it has nothing to do with the manufacturer, or where the vehicle is parked. Regulate the damn cats there would be no theft, simple as that. It is not rocket science, but then again I suppose for some people it is.

Central valley is just as bad. Bakersfield, Fresno, Merced, Modesto, Stockton, and Sacramento equals the wild west.

YouTube bay area thefts at stores. It's crazy.

Yeah, 45 minutes or so. Ride Thomaston dam from time to time. Grandkids are getting older and dirt bikes are becoming less important.

There was shooting over the weekend here when an owner tried to stop his from being cut off.
The Bad Guys shot the Good Guy.
They are getting crazier and more brazen for sure.

At the industrial space where my shop is there have been a shitload of thefts and the guy in the space below me rents UHauls out and they either come in with shields on them or get them right after being cut outside his fence.

It is sure not getting any better here.

I work as a multiline adjuster and handle claims all across the country. The hardest hit places from what I can see are Southern California, New York, New Jersey and the Houston/Dallas areas. I haven't seen these many CAT related losses since 2008 during the last recession. Back in 2008 I owned my own auto repair shop and we would have at least a couple of cars come in a week here in the Aurora/Denver area.

It's pretty bad in Tulsa. Had a coworker get his sawed off while his car was parked in our lot during broad daylight. IF mine get swiped, are there Tundra specific "test pipes" available? Oklahoma doesn't have smog inspections.

It happens here in TN but doesn't seem to be as common as those of you west of the Mississippi.
