I need to replace my gas grill. I have a black char broil from lowes, 3 burner. It lasted about 4-5 years, no complaints since I got it on sale for like 90 bucks.

I kept it covered, well maintained, clean. But the design of it is flawed since you can remove the grease tray- so it rusts from there and into other areas. At this point it is a fire waiting to happen! :bananadead:

I am looking for a 4 burner grill that works well, has cast iron grates and is about $300-$400. I really dont care if is it black or stainless as long as it is decent quality and will not rust out in a couple years. Removable/cleanable grease tray is a must.

I can't afford a Webber or I would have one. Ive seen char broil of course, monument, nextgrill but open to whatever is decent and not super pricey.

    Weber.

Anything backed by a 10 year warranty is at least worth considering while shopping.

And you can replace the internals when/if needed. We got 13 years out of our first Weber gas grill, and would have got more but it wouldn't fit on the moving truck. I had replaced the flavorizer bars and grill grates once, and the burner tubes twice in that time. It was the entry 2 burner grill, so yeah... I could have made room for it in the move if I really wanted to, but leaving it behind gave the wife no choice but to let me upgrade at our new location. ;)

I've since had our Genesis 300 series for 9 years. I have replaced the flavorizer bars and grill grates once (I upgraded to stainless this time). The burner tubes (2nd set) are in need of replacement as we speak, so those will be done shortly.

In addition to longevity and available replacement parts, pretty much the whole thing comes apart easily for the seasonal (or more often if you like) deep clean.

I know there are higher performance grills out there, there are cheaper grills out there, and maybe there are longer lasting grills out there. When you look at all 3 metrics combined, Weber is hard to beat - they perform well and last a long time at a (somewhat) reasonable cost.

On edit; I guess this didn't help you much. My recommendation would be to 1) Look for a good used Weber, or 2) buy a cheap grill to get you by while saving some cash to get a Weber a couple years down the road - while still looking for a good used Weber (maybe you'll get lucky!)

Unfortunately any $300-$400 grill will not last too long. I buy the $200 specials at the box stores because I don't want to spend $1,000 on a Weber, but then I have to replace them every few years. I have 9 grills and mostly use the pellet grill or one of the charcoal or wood grills, so the gas grills are just for backup, hence not wanting to spend money on it. I have however decided to get a Napoleon next time - almost the Weber's price point but in my opinion a slightly better grill. Great warranty also.

They have a "budget" model 4-burner for $749.00.

    upload_2021-7-13_14-8-10.jpg

The Prestige range has a lifetime warranty. Rogue range is 15 years.

I had a “cheap” for it’s size charbroil brand.
I burned it out using it so much that i bought a weber spirit 210.

my .02, the lower priced weber isn’t worth the money. It is a very pathetically underpowered grill in comparison to the btu of my old charbroil. I would be much better off replacing the charbroil every 4 years than having the weber. And that is pathetic I know, but reality in 2021

My first cheap Charbroil, bought around 1998 lasted until this year. Maybe because I am in So Cal and the weather doesn't rust out Tundras and grills. I bought another cheap Charbroil a couple weeks ago.

We prefer charcoal but moved from a Weber kettle when my son was about 18 months as we were afraid he would trip into the exposed metal. He is going on 10 so we have about 8 years on a Weber Genesis. For the first few years I would use a Smokehouse SmokeChief cold smoke generator and I could do brisket or ribs very well since the control of heat and smoke were independent.

Got a Traeger Silverton about 4 years ago was never perfectly happy with it. Seemed to be a convection oven with smoke added and while I know they are popular we had trouble dialing it in. So, we sold that off this spring.

Still have the Weber and are now using a pellet smoke tube https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZZRR7XD to achieve the level of smoke we like, again independent of grilling temp. Has worked good on brisket, tri-tip and salmon. Can also do smoke and rotisserie which we have done a couple times with a whole chicken.

I have replaced the flavorizer bars and pressure wash it a couple times per year, and it is showing its age... but the Weber keeps on cooking. Will look to replace with a new one next year and will likely do the same.

Green Mountain Grill Daniel Boone pellet smoker. Ever since I purchased it about 3 years ago, I never use my gas grill anymore. I can smoke and grill with the GMG. We are very happy with it.

    This.

#1 - Webers last forever if you replace the grate, burners and flavorizer bars.
#2 - They can be found cheap or free.

I bought this Weber Spirit new 24 years ago in 1997 and it still works great.

I have two from the dump at another house. I see a few a year free on the street. People dump them when they move or when wear items...wear.

Amen to this! I bought my weber for $700.00 bucks 8 years ago, and literally grill a minimum of 4-5 days a week on it. Just for maintenance I recently replaced the 5 flavorizer bars, 3 burner tubes and 2 heat shields for about $130.00 bucks, but it will last another 8 years before the next tune up. I love my weber!

I got my Weber Genesis Gold for $480 over 18 years ago and it still works great. I keep it covered and have only had to replace the 3 flavor bars and the grill grates. When/if this ever stops working I will be looking for another Weber.

Commercial char broil here since 2007. Bought a new pan once and flame tamers a couple of times. Keep fresh lava rock in the pan. It's natural gas also. Pressure wash once a year.

I've also purchased a 2nd hand Weber in the past few years. Happy with the purchase! It still operates great and I know I can get spare parts when needed.

That price point is hard to find anything that large of a grill, new. Do you require that much cooking surface? I ask because even the difference in btu output between a weber 200 and 300 isn't worth the cost of a 300. We realized our 200 works great for our needs 99.5% of the time.

If size isnt a concern and portability is of interest, i prefer our weber q2200 over our spirit 210, and you can get it new, with stand, for your price point.

I bought the 4 burner stainless nexgtill from Home Depot. I just can’t bring myself to spending the kk way into he Weber. I use the grill at least twice a week and it cooks great. As with anything, take care of it, clean and cover and it will last. I had my original ones for 16 years (replaced the burners one time in that span) and decided to buy a new one last year.

The Weber spirit models are Chinese. The more expensive Weber’s are USA made.

Any particular reason you want a grill and not a griddle? I moved on from grills to a flat top. You can get a nice BlackStone within your budget.

I do not have a good answer for you. I have never seen them used but a griddle could be an option. I'll look into them as well.

At $300 to $400 you are going to be in the cheaper Chinese models. I found a cheap little Char Broil 4 burner gas on end of year clearance and is used mostly as a backup. I also use it in a pinch as I can turn it on, have instant heat, heat up tortillas or something while I am grilling. Gas is handy, and it does get used every once in a while when in a hurry.

I also have a hobby of grilling and have 6 right now, about 20 in the past 4 years or so.

You are going to have to get in the $800 plus range in Weber to get something made well. Napoleon in my opinion is a little better at that price point. I have owned Napoleon with a built in electric rotisserie and it was really nice. I have it to my Aunt and it gets used still and is about 13 years old. Good as new.

I love my griddle and use it quite often, but it has its place.

If you stick in the $300 to $400 range, I would consider those basically be the 5 year and throw away and replace, as much as I hate to say it.

Pellets do all things well, but it is going to be $800+ to get in that game for something decent. Hands down, my Yoder YS640S is the go to and his used for everything now. I can get grate temps of 150-850 so it smokies, bakes, sautéed, grills, etc.....

If I was set to not go over $400 I would stick to the cheap little Char-Broil gas grills.

My next step would be to pony up to the $800 to $1,000 and that will get you in mid range pellet smoker. Green Mountain Grills, Rec Teq for example.

You can get a 36" BlackStone in your budget, + some for the accessories you'll need.
It's very similar to grilling. The major difference is you won't get any smoke flavor from fat vaporizing in the flames, however, your food cooks in its own fat on the griddle, thus giving it a great flavor.

They also don't get as hot as a gas grill does, thus not that great for a quick sear. I have a sous vide torch for that.

    Accessories you'll want:

    Griddle scraper
Spatulas made for flat top grills
Condiment bottles to fill with water, oil, salt water, teriyaki, soy, etc...
    Cheese melting and steaming domes
Smash burger press (you can do it with spatulas, the press gives you consistent results.
Steak weights. Steaks tend to curl up when you flip them the first time. The weight ensures it stays in contact with the griddle. For the longest time I just used a brick wrapped in foil. Now I use bacon presses.

I started griddle cooking on a Camp Chef 3 burner stove with a griddle top accessory. I've had that for about 10 years and it's still like new. I used the shit out of it.

Now I have a 6 burner flat top installed in my garage. The griddles are made out of heavy gauge, cold rolled steel. They'll last forever.

Broil King brand is awesome and surprised no others mentioned them, medium priced and rock solid product and have two 20+ years old and each inside rebuilt once cheaply, cast iron grills which are great to cook with. Char Broil and so many others are junk if you ask me me and bought one for my vacation house and threw it away after a couple of years and was a very cheap product compared to Broil King in my opinion.

I switched to a Blackstone griddle. I've cooked so much good stuff on there, it's ridiculous. I'm making some of the best steaks of my life, and I'm the hibachi hero to my wife and kids.

I have the Walmart exclusive 36" model with air fryer drawers. The baked potatoes you can cook in those fryer drawers are unreal...and in 25-30 minutes?? Come on...

I don't have many accessories. Just a standard griddle tools kit, and a butter roller for buns. Someone told my wife it's a game changer. I haven't even looked at it yet..lol

There is literally no downside to this griddle. There's nothing I miss about a gas grill.
