HEADLIGHT UPGRADE HELP

hello,
new to the forum here...
looking to upgrade the headlights on my 2017 SR5 TRD OFF-ROAD, and i have a few questions... thank you beforehand.

so i have a 2017 Tundra that did not come with the LED style headlight. i’m looking into purchasing an OEM or OEM style headlight similar to the ‘18 and up OEM LED Headlight. what’s the difference between the smoked set and the black set? also, are there any simple plug / converter harnesses available? or will i have to cut or de-pin some cables?

As far as black vs smoked, i could be wrong but i believe black means the bezels around the reflectors are painted black and the smoked means the lenses are tinted.

Edit: Smoked lenses is incorrect.

the trd pro led version headlights have the darkened surround. I just did the same conversion and purchased a harness from @iHacker. it worked perfect and looked like oem quality.

If you go with OEM LED get the harness from @iHacker. Best harness hands down and customer service is top notch!!

Toyota of Cool Springs and Sparks Toyota seem to be the 2 most popular OEM parts suppliers to this site. If you can wait 'til Black Friday you'll probably b able to find free shipping. Morimoto is the only aftermarket head light I'd consider. The Ihacker harness is the best available and the only one to consider.

they have free shipping, I think you save more than Sparks. Their website is a littler harder to navigate and I’m on mobile, but I know I’ve found the black housing TRD headlights on there. Just make sure the part number matches. This is where I plan on buying mine.

 

sorry I am at work but At home I have bookmarked Lewis Toyota, McGeorge Toyota, OEM Parts and a few others. Due to the number of counterfeit parts I stay clear of Ebay and Amazon and other sources.

 

i attempted purchasing off of here, it is cheaper than Sparks...but for some odd reason the transaction is not going through. perhaps because i’m located in CA?

Try Lewis Toyota because they are in Kansas and you will get it sooner. Usually same prices as McGeorge.

i just finalized my purchase through Toyota McGeorge with the Free Ship coupon.
i was previously using my iPhone to try and purchase the parts, i now hopped on my macbook and the order went through.
now i just wait for them to arrive and wait for my harness from iHacker, already PM him and placed my order, told me he could have the harness ready to ship sometime this weekend possibly.

not so good news, received this email this morning.

“Good morning, We are sorry, but we have had to cancel and refund your order. We are currently not selling any headlights online due to them arriving damaged. We have tried different shippers and packing methods, but they are still being damaged during shipment. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you”

once the refund has been processed, will most likely go with Sparks for the headlights now.

i got some more lighting questions, it’s about Fog lights now lol, should i post another thread?

i’m looking to buy either the Baja designs amber or the diode dynamics. definitely want the yellow/amber color

 

Diode dynamics is the way to go. I have the Baja SAE and not a fan.

 

Use @iHacker for the new harness (if he still makes them) and @Roman for the headlights.

I performed the same upgrade and couldn’t be happier. The new harness is amazing quality.

You’ll also need to get a specific tool to pop out one of the wires from under the dash. I believe Ihacker did a tutorial.

 

Ask @memario1214 There is a strong personal preference to lighting in my opinion and dependent on usage as well. But @memario1214 is very knowledgeable on the topic and a straight shooter.

 

Since you know these lights well, how does the amber from BD compare to the DD? Are they pretty close match or what do you think? Reason I ask is I have BD amber ditch lights and don’t want all these shades of amber.
