I have an intermittent scraping sound which sounds like it's coming from the front end. It's only audible when turning right at speed - can't hear it turning around in the driveway. I took my dad along for a ride to help confirm. His suspicions are the same as mine. However the wheel and tire feel solid - no play with some push/pull on it while the truck is parked. Also there no vibration from this.

The truck has 91k on with a 3/1.5" toytec lift and 285/65/20s coopers at3 tires on for the last two years. Most of my miles are on road and I don't drive like a maniac.

I'm going to jack it up later today and pull off the wheel to examine things. I have two questions to the group. What else should I look for? If it is a front wheel bearing, does the bearing get replaced or am I replacing that assembly? Thanks, Craig

Simple check…make sure you dont have a rock inside the rotor dust shield…

bearings don't scrape and stop or make noise intermittently, they are constant. under load. check brake shield.

Not just a rock or debris, but brake shield could be bent as well. If not that or bearing, my guess would be cv axle since you have a lift. Check for grease around the boots.

You won't get play in wheel if checking it on the ground. Got to jack it off the ground before you shake it

I pulled off the wheel and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Perhaps the dust shield was rubbing. I bent it out a little bit. The brakes look good. The CVs looked ok. I didn't have a chance to drive it tonight. At least I got the chance to pull off all the wheels and clean them.

Did you try to rock the wheel when it was jacked up?

Like others say: check your brake shield. They can be stubborn.

I bent passenger side out slightly - it might have been rubbing. I'll find out today when I drive it later.

I would advice that you check both sides for all those things if you haven't already. Sounds can be deceptive when trying track them down. You never know.

I know this sounds crazy, but did you happen to take a look at this recent thread? Same year as your truck. There was a TSB for a stupid sticker on 1st gen drive shafts causing noise apparently. Could be the same thing on that shaft or maybe even on the cv axle shafts: https://www.tundras.com/threads/clicking-sound-while-driving-in-4-hi-only-solved.92041/

Any chance it could be rubbing on the fender well

Sure it’s the front? There was a tsb for the rear wheel bearings. I had that issue in my 2010 and it sounded like the front was making the noise. It did it when turning and sounded like a scraping.

Don't think so - I know that sound from when I first did the tire update. I did the molding and pushing at that point.

Sure I wouldn't bet on the front. At low speed the pops thought it was coming from the rear. I didn't have the entire rear jacked up at the same time. I'll go back and investigate.
