Toyota doesn’t really seem to care much about the North American market for 1/2 ton trucks. 14 years of the current model with no significant upgrades or changes should clue us in to that fact. In fact seems like they’ve actually downgraded the Tundra by taking away equipment like the transmission cooler.

I thought we had heard through unofficial but reliable sources that the 22 will now release in January.

Fourth quarter 2021 could mean all the way up to December 31st and still be technically on schedule. So I’m not holding my breath on any big revelations the rest of the summer and fall.

    LOL.

Good luck to them. If my last dealer visit to purchase an air filter is any indication, the 2022 Tundra demo units (if in fact Toyota does that) will be the only new car or truck on a lot of Toyota dealer lots.

There wasn’t a single new car available for sale when I went in.

If they're going for the record on delaying a launch they have about 13 years remaining before catching up to the Jeep Gladiator. They promised that thing forever!

The North America 1/2 ton truck and large SUV market is difficult to break into. Toyota has only been in those markets since 2000. Gen1 Tundra is an awesome platform, but it was panned as a baby 1/2 ton not a real 1/2 ton.

After some setbacks with the Tacoma and Tundra frame replacement that cost them maybe 2 billion dollars, then the unintended acceleration lawsuit that cost them $2 billion, then the massive 2011 earthquake in Japan.

R&D took a hit for North America trucks. Toyota Corporate bean counters and engineers had to scramble to develop new models when Toyota had about $10 billion less to do so.

Corporate focused on the North America market of Rav4's, Camry, Sienna, Tacoma. Sell the volume vehicles. Toyota had to keep a Tundra/Sequoia lineup, we'll see how they pan out. All Tacoma production has moved to Mexico with a new billion dollar plant in Guanajuato. San Antonio plant is now exclusively for the 2022 Tundra and Sequoia and they're hoping to get a larger market share in those segments.

I thought about buying a CPO GX460 last year but decided to hold out for a new Tundra.

Next generation of the GX is probably on the radar though since I assume Toyota will screw over 4Runner again with an underpowered basic bitch motor, and give the GX the good engine.

The dealer I bought mine from has about five cars in their lot for sale, that’s it. Pretty sad. Most, if not all of the salesman are gone with just the managers and owner their selling cars.

I wish they still had a baby 1/2 ton platform. I am not against the real 1/2 ton as well but I thought the Gen 1 was a unique size and I do a lot of city parking and it helped.

That would be any of the mid size trucks in DCLB configuration.

Ahab said on 7/12/21: "I am wondering if they are experiencing any kind of parts shortage or production issues so do now wish to be overwhelmed with orders they may not be able to fill? This waiting is starting to get on my nerves but it is hard to say what the delay is."

It reminds me of what was probably the most radical and exciting new car introduction in this country(with the exception of the 1902 Peerless) -- the late 1935 intro of the 1936 Cord. The release was handled well but they couldn't back it up with finished cars and the company never recovered(stopped building cars in 1937).

But non of the mid size trucks have the V8. That really was a fun generation to drive. I had an 02 for work and that little thing ripped!

Yup. EPA MPG requirements based on wheelbase were the death sentence of the small trucks, and midsize ones with V8s. If you have the wheelbase of a Camry/Accord you have to have the MPGs of one too.

They took away a transmission cooler? Good thing you mention it every post.

They don’t care…yet people keep buying. Huh…interesting. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I guess if sales dropped that would be an indication they did something wrong. FFS the transmission cooler…is that all ya got?

Since we are getting no news, let's speculate.

Do you think they will offer a DC with 6.5 foot bed in the next gen? If Toyota is listening, please yes.

Do you think we will see a 30 mpg varient ( city or hwy) running 87 octane? If so, can it be purchased new for less than $50k?

That's what a double cab currently has, so I don't see why not.

I would guess "no" to both questions.
