Went to Europe with a friend a few years back. I wasn't old enough to drive the rental car (had to be 25 at that time) and he couldn't remember how to drive a manual very well, though he'd learned about 10 years earlier. Couldn't find an automatic to rent so he had to dust off his skills. After about 3 days, he was doing pretty well but we were glad to dump that car because the drivers in France and Belgium are terrible.

Does anyone know a price range on the 2022? With my 2019 paid off, and worth more than what I bought it for, it's really appealing for a trade-in on one of these new ones.

The $4/gal gas is killing the pocketbook... I love the V8, but the thought of retirement at some point is a little more appealing.

I plan on buying a 2022. If it turns out to be stupid I'll have an excuse to just go buy a Gladiator and beat the hell out of it for a couple years until a better option comes around- like if they actually put a decent powertrain into the Tacoma or if they make a Ranger Raptor with a decent powertrain.

Payload issues have got me considering buying a ‘22 when they’re available. We’ll have to see what the new numbers are. I got my ‘21 before prices inflated, so I’m not worried about getting out of it before the ‘22 drops.

On Toyota’s site, it says max payload for an SR5 crewmax 4x4 is 1560 lbs. That’s with the smaller 26.4 gal tank. Somehow, mine with the 38-gal tank and a bedliner, is 1270 lbs (that’s 290lb less). 11.4 more gal of gas at 6lbs/gal, eats up 70 lbs of payload. I guess my factory bedliner, the larger tank itself, the half a skid plate on the tank, and the tailgate lock eat up the other 220 lbs. :notsure:

That price is getting up there... MSRP on a "base: Raptor is like 64k I believe- just saying- gearing, adaptive shocks, 35's...

I was going to ask if you also have pushbutton start and dual zone climate control and other features like that but I don't have those and my sticker also says 1270 lbs. :notsure:

ETA: I added my spray in bed liner afterwards, though, so that's not even accounted for on my sticker.

The constant delays are making me think one of two things… Either they are unsure about producing the truck for the 2022 model year or they are playing hard to get. In any case I think they are going to lose a lot of customers except for the loyalists. But then again I wonder how many Tundra owners are brand loyalists?

a lot more then Ford owners I would guess. People who like Toyota, really feel good about buying another Toyota. I mean why are people buying 2021 tundras if it’s not loyalty to Toyota? If you start comparing specs… well tundras are really reliable and hold there value!

Totally agree! In all honesty and for the sake of conversation is the Tundra really that far behind any of the competition? No because I would not have bought one. It definitely has a little older tech but it’s still highly competitive. As a society I believe we were trained in thinking the newest most modern technology is always best…which in many cases I would beg to differ. NOT IN ALL CASES.

Really the only things I wish my 2020 had that other truck brands have are more cameras for the 360 deg view and front camera for parking and I imagine if someone tows a trailer or something a lot it would be nice to have one of the hitch cams and I wish the "premium" JBL sound system was actually good and didn't sound like a complete POS. I think the 8" screen in the truck is plenty big enough, as my last car tried to replace some of the manual knobs with capacitive buttons or integrated into the screen and it made it a total PITA to use, I'd even say dangerous while driving.

This is getting frustrating at this point. Release some teasers then go radio silent for a few weeks, possibly building hype for the CAS and then not releasing anymore about the Tundra? They're really just setting themselves up for disappointment at this point I think. Toyota loyalists like myself are getting frustrated, potential new customers are looking elsewhere cause they don't want the existing dinosaur (which is still a beast of a truck), not really sure what their strategy is. Powertrain seems like it's just going to be Toyota's variant of the EcoBoost and the rest is just Toyota finally catching up to the competition. I'm fearing there is nothing "world-beater" about this truck. Also, has anyone else noticed that nothing exciting has happened since Sweers has been Chief Engineer? He took over after the 2nd gen launch and it's only been minor stuff since, this is his first full redesign and after the Taco debacle this should be interesting.

    End rant lol.

I am wondering if they are experiencing any kind of parts shortage or production issues so do now wish to be overwhelmed with orders they may not be able to fill? This waiting is starting to get on my nerves but it is hard to say what the delay is.

It doesn't matter if there are delays or not. They know exactly how the truck is going to look and every spec for it at this point. They could release all of this stuff to placate the people who are getting fed up with waiting and potentially turning elsewhere and even with whatever shortages they are experiencing, they know exactly when the truck is going to be released. I guarantee they are losing customers by the day by not providing any information on what's coming. Everyone here is even fed up with it and you know if we are, your average customer has already bought whatever else has already been released to the market.

I would guess the TRD Pro will come in at around $60-$65K MSRP. Find a dealer that will let you reserve one at MSRP. I guess if you have another vehicle to drive around or purchase a beater it might not be a bad idea to sell the 2019 right now if you can get a good offer on it.

I think this is just typical Toyota MO. They don't really show their hand until the very end. Obviously frustrating for those who have been waiting 2-3 years for that "next gen" Tundra. I'm willing to bet most Tundra owners are Toyota loyalists. You don't buy the 4th best selling full size truck brand that only moves about 110-125K units/year without being a loyalist. I think it's easier for those that are brand agnostic to just simply buy a domestic truck that is more available, has better discounts, more efficient and more creature comforts than an aging Tundra that is a gas hog.

We were HOPING they would reveal more at the auto show but they said September after that fiasco from last month so the delay was known already, it's not a new delay.

I agree less tech can be a better thing for a lot of truck owners but. When comparing power/payload/mpg on paper the current tundra sucks. I can’t justify buying a truck that gets 15mpg when I can buy a truck that gets 20 with significantly better towing abilities. Which is why I’m waiting to see what this new tundra has to offer. I expect it will fit my needs so I don’t have to buy a domestic tow vehicle. If it can compete in those departments and have the basic modern tech which I can’t imagine it wouldn’t have. Simple stuff like Bluetooth and back up cameras and touch screen good ness. I’ll likely own a 2022 sr5 with plans to upgrade the suspension and stuff in my own time. I know Toyota trucks are historically low on power and mpg. But come on.. it’s time

360 cameras would be nice and the screen in the Tundra is perfect for me. It’s funny when I first got the back up camera in the rear view mirror of my 2012 Tacoma I had a couple of close calls due to relying on it to much. Now I only use it as an occasional aid…nothing beats the mirrors IMHO.

On paper I see what your saying however the real world is quite different. I have quite a few family and friends that own the competition and I don’t know of any that gets 20 mpg’s (V8 engines). I like to ask about these things.

Additionally in regards to payload I have seen a F150 sag about 2 to 3 inches with a 5k (load and trailer total) trailer. My Tundra did not even sag that much with an 800 pound ATV in the bed. I don’t buy a lot of the numbers that the competition puts out…. I could never in good faith put a 10k trailer on an F150. I could careless what any engineer or manufacturer says…physics is physics.

I apologize if anything seems combative towards you. It’s really not and please don’t take it personal…I feel manufacturer’s are willing to push the envelope to be the “best in class” at the cost of consumers money and lives.

Everything is going up. Bass boats get are getting a 10% increase for the 22 model year whether changes are made or not.
I'm just guessing, we'll probably see about the same for the 22' tundra as well.

no not at all, and I was referring to the comparison between a tundra v8 and a TTV6 that produces more everything and better MPG. Or a Tacoma with shit power and still shit mpg. But it’s reliable so there’s that I guess.

So, drove from NW Vermont to the Albany, NY airport and back... yesterday, 308.5 miles on 15.89 gals of gas. 19.41 mpg. Not bad, stayed 62-63 or so on the main roads(rt 7/22a/4/149), and 72/73 on the I-87 Thruway(all gps speeds) just following the traffic flow for the most part. And, there's a fair amount of hills along the route, so no flat driving for the most part. Not bad for a 2011 V8 dblcab(no load, just passengers/luggage) with 116k miles.

I just keep thinking about that pic posted that showed new gens of several Toyota models. It said Q4 2021 for the Tundra. As far as official news from Toyota, I don’t see why we’re thinking they “keep delaying it”. It seems to me they’re just sticking to their timeline.

Your used truck has an elevated value due to market conditions, the same conditions that would cause a new truck to transact at historically high price. As a "trade-in" you are not going to come out ahead.

Your best bet is to sell the truck yourself for maximum value, pocket the money, drive your other vehicle, wait for new Tundra to come out, then wait some more for the transaction prices to cool off.

Using mpgs as justification for buying a new vehicle almost never pens out.

yeah i use mine all of the time that with the rear cross traffic system is clutch for the people that like to fly down grocery store parking aisles lol. but yeah if i could just get a 360 camera (which would include a front camera) i would be fine because, even though i'm used to it now, it's tough judging where the front end is in the tundra because of how the hood curves.

I wish I could agree with you, but their take on things so far, makes me believe they won't.
