I just sold my 2006 4x4 Tacoma with a 6 speed manual transmission. Only had 120k miles on it. It was my 6th Toyota 4x4 truck with a stick in it. First one was a 1981 super cab, then got an 85, 92 (first V6!) 96, 02, then the 06. I am a bit sad to say the least. I have accumulated about 1.25 million miles between all of those trucks. I was only left hanging and needed a wrecker only ONCE and it was in the 06. The left front wheel bearing failed for some reason at 85k miles and till this day Toyota could never explain why it went bad.

    I loved my Tacos :(

I feel like I have have lost a life long friend.

I have looked at the Tundras off and on over the last couple of years and ran across this 2013 with 20k miles on it last month. Was going to go have a look at it but got busy. Saw it again this month and went ahead and a look and drove it.

Long story short she's in the driveway. They were asking 36k and I got them down to 34. It was an older gents truck with not one scratch on or under it and not one bit of dirt on the underside. The price was definitely right so I did the deed.

Been on the inter web researching and Ive got a set of front and rear bumpers ordered along with a few other things and have a set of Nitto 37x12.5x20's being delivered tomorrow. She's got 325x60x20 Nittos on her now and with the new front bumper and a little modification of the front body mounting brackets those 37's should work great. The 35's are good with no rubbing at all but I want to go a little taller and a little less wide on those 20" wheels. If I run them up to 50psi the gas mileage should improve.

Looks like she came with the Rough Country 6" lift and the extended front struts. Im digging the ride as it seems almost like she is stock. Will she how she dose on those 37's.

Great to be on here. Lots a very knowledgeable and talented folks building bad ass Tundras for sure! I may to check into seeing if there is Tacoma Rehab & Support thread and see if I can find a little velcro strap to keep my left leg tied to my seat!

May need to regear with 37's but I'd say well worth it!

Can't get over how CLEAN it looks at 4 years old!!

I'm in the same boat. Sold my Taco and now getting a Tundra. The Taco just got to be too small and my '05 had a drivers front wheel bearing go bad too! No idea why.

Yup, found a score card, a three T's, and two Titlist's under the back seats. The old guy never drove it apparently except to the golf course.

Gives you more torque to turn the heavy tires. 4.88 gears should do the trick. Plus it'll keep the tranny healthy and keep it from downshifting so much with so much weight to turn.

I know that my speedo is off about 6 mph at 70 indicated and I'm am turning right at 2k rpm at that speed. MPG is right at 12 running at 75ish. Dose a little better if I back off a bit. I wonder what changing the gears will do for me.

I ran pretty tall and narrow tires on my Tacos at high PSI. Helped a bunch on MPG and tires wore great with 5 to 8k miles rotation. Hoping for the same out of those 37's on the Tundra

Give you more torque, not sure if it helps with MPG. I'm not an expert at that but know guys that hit the dirty 7's regear for the most part.

Welcome from San Diego. Very nice looking truck ! Definitely do the re-gear when you move to 37's. I did it and was one of the best mods I've done. Truck runs very strong even with the 37's on. I did notice the braking is a little tougher with the 37's. Good luck with all.......

Is the re-gear a must have or can I get away with saying with the stock set up? I intend to do some pulling every once in a while but not anything more that about 5,000#s.

I found out that my 5.7 has the tow package which makes my gears 4.3. If I have to re-gear I will have to do the front diff too since I am 4x4.

    bj1.jpg

I will try it out stock for a bit and see what I get. Ive been towing my 1978 BJ40 around on a trailer with my Taco for the last couple of years so the Tundra won't even feel it behind her I am sure.
