I’m really tired of reading about how the Tundra hasn’t had a upgrade since 2007. I’m tired of reading about how the truck is ancient and the engine is way behind the competition. In my opinion the 2021 Tundra is a much better looking truck than the new Silverado, the F-150, and the Ram. The only real complaint that most have about the engine is the fuel economy. It is a well designed engine that has been bullet proof and gets the job done easily in most situations. The payload and towing is more than sufficient for the majority of Tundra owners. As far as the interior not being as nice as the competition I think reliability and resale value far outweigh a nicer looking cabin. I personally like Toyota’s way of doing things. They won’t give you redesigns and new features as often but they will give you a vehicle that you can rely on and thoroughly enjoy.

They still fkd us out of a decent auxiliary transmission cooler. Secondly, if you take it for a fifteen hour drive, I think you will likely agree the seats could be much better. Aside from that, it's a good base to build on.

Don't think you'll find much opposition in this forum. You can put fancy new gadgets and dohickeys on a turd, but it's still a turd. I bought a Tundie cause if I'm going to throw alot of good money at something, it sure as hell ain't going to be a turd.

I mean, other than replacing the head unit, I don't know what else I'd want in the interior.

Maybe cooled seats like the wife's 4runner? Maybe an inverter and outlet somewhere. I guess I don't know what people's complaints are about the interior.

100% agree with you OP— and I like the seats! I know the low cost of ownership gets praised but I’ll add, I don’t think the MSRP gets enough love… a loaded Tundra— $55k a loaded F-150 $80k, Silverado $66k, Ram $70k. Yes they have more tech, which features for each of the competitors above are worth $25k, $11k, and $15k respectively? For my money, nothing stands out.

But what if I like dohickeys... AND reliability?

Don't worry... I bought a Tundy. And am throwing a bunch of perfectly good money at it.
One thing I really did wish my Tundra had is a built-in inverter and another plug-in or two.

I also thought that I was going to need to replace the head unit straight away. After the 2020 update I don't HATE it... I just wish that it would stay playing satellite radio when carplay is hooked up. Anytime Carplay executes a noise the sound system goes over to the phone and stays there. I have to manually navigate through source to get back to the satellite radio. Makes it so that I hardly ever use carplay.

See up here it’s completely different . The Tundra TRD is 85k and I bought my Rebel new for 54k that gives me 31k left over from buying the Tundra . I have nothing against the Tundra but I got more toys in mine for a lot less . I’ve also only been back to the dealer for oil changes and tire rotations .

Mostly agree w/ the OP and other commentors: I don't really care for gimicky tech either, but man I wish my Tundra came with power folding side mirrors. Constantly having to manually fold/unfold can be a hassle. Not a deal breaker, but power folding tech is so ancient.

The seats in my platinum are super comfortable. Just did a 16hr road trip straight through, and probably another 20 hrs total going on adventures the past week. I love my seats, but have heard on here that other trims don't have as comfortable of a seat. The platinum seats are super adjustable.

Yup, I just hit 101,225 miles on mine, no major problems. I feel confident I can go another 100k or more, even my wife said maybe let’s get the new tundra when it comes out and trade her RX350 and keep my current tundra. I like what toyota is doing.

I don't have a problem with them, but I think the problem a lot of people have is that the seats are HUGE. They don't hug you like a normal vehicle. I'm not a small man but these seats were clearly designed for big big guys.

I agree. I am 6 foot 200 pounds and still have room to move on these seats. My limited seats have been really comfortable for me on long trips. Guess I got room to grow once I retire one day and the beer catches up with me!

In regards to the seats…sit in the beloved 5th gen 4Runner seats for 14 hours. I will take the Tundra seats hands down over any 4Runner (I owned 3 of 5), any gen Tacoma (I owned all 3), any Rav4, and Corolla, any Camry, and lastly any Highlander. Toyota seats in general have always been rock hard but the Tundras have been the most comfortable to date IMHO…

Have an 18 4Runner, np, maybe just some bad assembly work or something with my truck. It just sucks that airbags are part of the seats or they would be gone already. I'll figure out something eventually.

Maybe I can do a swap at some point, only thing is my truck is a special edition with unique upholstery. Kinda got to consider that, the special pillows help, so maybe I'll try to lose ten pounds and see what happens. Not huge though I am only bout 175

Truth be told I started using a thin memory foam pad in all my Toyota’s to protect the seats, to add a softer layer and to get a bit more rise because I am only 5’5. I wear cargo pants/shorts a lot and the buttons we’re wearing really bad holes in my Corolla and especially my 2017 4Runner. In the Tundra I could really do without it but I don’t want holes in my seat (cloth) like my 4Runner…

I'm 5'10 155lbs and I have a smaller frame, and tons of room to move around in the seat. All my trucks I had growing up were bench seats so I guess this is luxury to me :p if yall get a chance go sit in a platinum and play with the seat controls. I really like the control the raises and lowers the part under your knees, whatever it's called.

There are minor issues with the Tundra.

Other half ton trucks on the market, and for about 20 years now, are a borderline criminal scam.

The 19+ need a cooler in some demanding situations. But the AB60F can live without it for the most part.

Payload is silly low but most folks know you can go beyond that without issues.

Fuel pump recall ticks me off more than any of the above.

MPG is lolwtf but compare it to the class. To get better MPG, and the point of the thread, you have to have twin turbo v6, or the most ridiculously complicated cylinder deactivation scheme ever devised (DFM), hybrid truck (unproven and totally new and rushed to market), or a neutered diesel complete with all the lovely emissions controls that the HD guys spend good green money to get rid of.

So to get 6-7 real world MPG improvement you need a quintupling of complexity and significant cost increase.

I agree with the fuel pump recall and the turn light recall did get on my nerves a bit…

But as far as the MPG’s are concerned, I think Toyota’s are just the most accurate believe it or not. I know quite a few guys that are getting much less than advertised on the F150, Chevy 1500’s and the Rams. I am amazed how much people let their vehicles idle for no reason at all. And it would stand to reason that a 5.7 idling is going to get significantly less mpg’s than a 3.5 EcoBoost. I have zero problems getting 17 mpg and more during highway cruising. Point being there is maybe 1 mpg more per gallon vs the competition when driven equally…

Exactly! I sometimes wonder if people who harp on the fuel economy actually want the efficiency or just want to spend less on gas. If they’re hunting for efficiency buy a sedan and rent a truck when needed (right?) If it’s the latter, it’s much easier to change your driving habits and use a gas discount app/Costco discount etc. My gut tells me the real world difference between the Tundy and other half tons is not significant. I had a Ridgeline (new model) and drove it for over a year— I averaged 18.4 mpg over that time :burnrubber:
