Have any of you peeps that have an AT Overland upgraded your suspension? If so, what did you upgrade to?

 

I intend to keep it light. No build out.

This is my daily driver.

So I don't intend to upgrade the suspension. We'll see

New to the suspension world. Picking up my Atlas next week. Will be about 1k pounds over stock all-in. Have bags on the rear right now for squat. Have OME 2.5'' heavy load kit on order with 612s on the front. I'll report back if it ever shows up.

 

I will be getting my Summit topper installed July 19 th.

Can't wait.

I am hoping to keep it stock.

The topper is under 400lbs

I think we will have about 650 lbs total, including the camping gear and food.

It will be interesting to see if the bed lowers much, under that weight.

Any info from others greatly appreciated.

Any updates on the rig? How do you like the topper so far?

 

I love it.

We have 28 nights in it so far.

I had to seal the leak in the from of the tundra, but had nothing to do with the topper.


The furnace is a must. We have only spent $20 in propane, and half of that was the first fill-up on the new empty tank.

We have used $14 to hear the topper for 28 nights.

The bed is comfy. I wish it were wider a few inches, but we are comfy.

It's a tall step to get up on the bunk. Get a step or ice chest as tall as the tundra bed, so it's not a stretch. I bought a grizzly 100qt, and it works, but could be taller.

My gas economy suffered 3 MPG after adding the topper. I was surprised.

The combo of tundra and summit is a match made in heaven. Other than the economy.

I'm very satisfied.

3 mpg? Thats seems harsh.

 

Yes i was really taken back. I drove 6,200 miles on our vacation, and had lots of time to confirm it.

I was getting 15-17, and occasionally over 20 MPG before install.

After the topper install it's 11-14, with a rare 15 MPG occasionally.

I almost always get 14 currently.


When on the interstate and traveling over 75 with regular fuel it was 11 MPG.

I brought that up with 92 octane and keeping it under 70 MPH.

I can get 14 mpg on regular, if I keep it under 60 MPH.

I love the truck and topper. I just have to pay to play I guess.

Eesh. Im at 12-13 now with no camper. It does get better if i keep it below 65mph i have noticed as well.

 

My friend just bought a new Dodge ram diesel and gets 22 MPG


But he paid $65K

And I paid $39.4K

I saved money right up front, and smile every time I climb into my favorite truck.

Plus I will have far more trade in value some day.

So I save on buying and selling the tundra. And he looses big-time there.

So I don't feel bad about the MPG on my tundra at all.

Thanks for the feedback @R65 Could you possibly take some interior pics please. And the topperlooks awesome.

I’m now thinking of adding the L Tracks to the roof. It’s $395 for them to do it. The only reason they will do it is for leaks. Don’t want any leaks in the topper. Also thinking about adding a window to to passenger side. The Tern Euro window offers screen and shade. So I can just keep the shade closed while not using the topper so no one can see inside. So going to be adding about $1200 to the price now.

 

How's your topper working out for you?

 

Interesting... Before the topper, but with a bed rack and a RTT that was lower than the cab I averaged about 13-14; out West with higher speed limits that was more like 12.5-13.5 (80-85 cruising speed).

With the Atlas on its very speed dependent. As long as I'm cruising between 75-80 I can get about 12.5; cruising at 85 it drops into the mid 11s. This is lifted, with an ARB bumper, and on 35s (speedo corrected) with ~1100lbs total weight added to the truck.

 

The Cummins will get 22 MPG until it goes into regen. Tank average empty for anyone being honest is usually 15 to 17 MPG for a modern HD diesel.

I'm very happy with my Habitat. I ran airbags on stock suspension until the OME lift last year some time, and have been pleased w ride quality.

Mario and Martyn are fantastic to work with, and I've known them since they had their original shop in Upland, CA. Janine answers most tech questions and whenever there is an issue, is quick to offer help.

I bought mine used, and it had some rivets work loose over time. They arent structural, just place holding rivets for the assembly process, and Mario had me stop by, drilled them out and reinstalled the newer, larger gauge ones, and gave me a handful of rivets if the others ever let go.

I tagged you because you stated in the other thread that you work for AT Overland. So I’m sure others and myself will have questions for you. Haha.

I am pretty close to pulling the trigger on a Summit. Just trying to time it when getting back from deployment.

Besides the heater, L- track on the roof, maxxair fan and window on passenger side; would you suggest any other add-ons?

Also how big is the opening at the bed level? Was wondering if there was a way to add another section of bed. I’m 6’2 and like to stretch out. But then again, I’m planning on building out the interior a little with 80/20. Want to make some storage and have a water tank and a little bench in there so when it’s raining I can be comfortable inside the topper without having to be in bed all day.

You're smart to add a Eurowindow on the passenger side so you can look over and see through to your blind spot. I highly recommend a front slider window. Since you're tall you can request the sleep platform be moved an extra 6" from where it normally would sit. This will give you more foot room on the front of the unit. We also build custom cabinetry and use Goose Gear. You can ask about it or build it out yourself. A lot of our customers prefer to custom-build their interior as they go. Also, I recommend picking up a thermal liner. This will help for those cold months. There is currently a shortage of thermal liners but if you purchase a unit, one will be shipped to you as soon as they are available. We are currently about 36 weeks lead time so you have time.

Why do you recommend the front slide window?

And I’m going to probably build the interior out as I go with 80/20. Have to save money somewhere. Haha. Do you have any pic of different interior builds? I know there is a thread on the Tacoma forum that I’ve been looking at.

 

I am in line for a Habitat. Should be ready around Christmas.

Do you have any suggestions for it? I have no windows because i want it secure as possible.

I would like to come get installed at your shop the week between Christmas and New Years, but there is some question if yall will be open. If i have to have it shipped here to SC for me to install, is there anything special I need to do or does it just bolt to the top rail of the bed?

I used my front sliding window every day on our trip.

At night, I opened it a pencil width, and ran the ceiling fan on low. That gave us fresh air and removed condensation.

Every day we woke up completely dry.

I even did this when it was cold and we were running the furnace.

And on hot days, we ate lunch in the back and we would open the front sliding window and also turned the ceiling fan on high, with the other doors and windows closed.

This created a fantastic breeze in the back, while we ate lunch.

We also hung wet things up and dried them using the above method

If you have the front window and a passenger window, you can look back and see your passenger side blind spot. It is also convenient as you could run a cord through the window to an inverter inside the cab.

Yes the unit bolts to the top side of the bed, as well as some electrical to be done. I believe we are closed that week but speak with Janine, she may be able to work something out.

How is the finish on the topper holding up? How does everyone take care of the finish? I recently fell into the rabbit hole of detailing but not deep and I enjoy my truck clean when I’m not out getting it dirty.

 

Mine is holding up well. I might wash the truck once or twice a year, primarily in the winter if I'm on salted roads. Its been through AK from the previous owner and has lots of pinstriping from my adventures, but the Shark Skin treatment they use is pretty robust....I think thats the name for it anyways.

 

Pinstripes are allowed when adventuring!! It will buff out!

 

I made the mistake of cleaning a spot, before adding a sticker.

I used rubbing alcohol, and the shark skin came off.

Now I have a circle about a foot in diameter that looks different.
