If this is the case, Toyota just wants to build soccer mom trucks. Which I hope is not the case. Camry engine in the Tacoma. LS engine in the Tundra? Who knows what Toyota has for marketing right now.

I think I read Ford actually went this way as well outside of the raptor in their new f150. They are just using the heat exchanger as well. Could be wrong though

I have tried using both with same trailer and route. For my personal vehicle it likes to be in D o do not hunt for gears or have any issues. I have a vehicle the has an integrated cooler so not to concerned. I just think its funny no matter what thread it turns into you need a aux cooler because the 07-18 has one.

You won't be using S1 descending a grade. I guess I am the only one that manually shifts? Taking off with a heavy load or pulling boats up a ramp, its always S1 for me.

I figure I'll just run it in D in T/H mode, but monitor temps and if they start increasing unreasonably or gear hunting, I will pop it over into S4. In my first outing with it, I did a bit of each and didn't see the temps go down appreciably when I switched from D to S4. On my next trip in a couple weeks, I'll have lots of highway miles and will try to measure the temp differences between D and S4 to see if it's worth the worry.

Once the heat is built - it can be hard to dissipate. if you move it to S4 around 205-210 the heat will stop building in my experience - granted I'm in a 2017.

Pulling my 5k+ lb TT in D t/h I have accidentally chirped the tires giving it too much gas. I have no problem getting it rolling in D or S4. Pulling is not my issue. Now payload.....

I installed a cooler on my ‘21 Tundra SR5 at around 13k miles. I went with Genuine Cooling Systems.com. I went with the top of the line cooler he offers... everything else is Toyota factory, ie, the thermostat, hard lines etc. the kit comes with a billet bracket that mounts directly in front of the radiator. All the mounting hardware is stainless. Not cheap. I spent $1000 for everything. Not having a trans cooler on a truck built to tow is insanity.
I’m running all AMSOIL in everything but the TC. Everything mounted right up exactly right. The holes in the block that used to be where the hard lines mounted are even still there. Detailed easy to understand instructions are included.
I spoke to the engineer’s at Schaeffer Oil months ago about trans fluid before I bought the Tundra. In their words any trans fluid that sustains a 240deg temp or higher will begin to lose its lubricating qualities and so forth.
I’m going to down load some photos for you. Crap, I’m having trouble with the download. I’ll try later.

By the way, violating your warranty will not happen. Toyota still sells all the factory parts for the cooler. All the parts in my kit said Toyota right on them including the part numbers. The only thing in my kit not factory was the cooler itself.
One last thing. My kit came with the Toyota factory thermostat. It was pinned in the open position to allow continuous flow since adding 1.5 qts of fluid is required after installation. The method of checking proper fluid level in the transmission is quirky to say the least and either myself or the guy at GenuineCoolingSystems can walk you through it. Check his website as there are also some tools you may need to do the job.

I run with my thermostat open as I am in the desert Southwest.

Except that the owner's manual clearly says the truck is not intended for towing.

I guess I better read my manual. Why a tow package then?

I know when not towing on hot days my 19 runs cooler in S4 than D. Have not checked it on cool days yet. When I tow my boat I’ll use Tow Mode and try both S4 & D, then use the one that runs coolest, probably S4. Guessing the difference is the Torque Converter lock up?

    Hear, hear!

Tundra, while a towing champion, is intended for deployment during the following activities:

    - conveyance to and from the ice cream parlor
    - carrying yon lady friend to Victoria's Secret to procure lacy/see-through unmentionables, the net weight of which not to exceed 4.996523 picograms
    - cartage of no more than 2 delightful kats in furtherance of veterinary care
    - posing at the mall
    - posing on TacoWorld

You forgot conveyance to and from the food club for cartage of bulk food items and pallet-loads of toilet paper when a traditional grocery-getter would not suffice.

If yon lady friend's unmentionables are large enough to weigh more than 4 kg, I'll pass on having her in my truck.

    No pallets, plz.

Even an empty pallet, once placed onto the bed of a MY2019+ Tundra, will cause the trangsmission to instantly achieve supercriticality and collapse inward upon itself resulting in a quantum singularity with a surface temperature of 63.3 million Kelvin.

This makes sense for any 1/2 ton in my opinion. Not that you said it but I don’t think that “not-intended” is the best description. Otherwise why have a non-existent transmission cooler, tow hitch, or brake controller?

It’s more than capable when done within reason and CLEARLY not for commercial purposes…

My 2007 owners manual says the same thing.

A quick search online of a Ford F-150 owners manual also states basically the same caveats about placing additional stress on the engine, brakes, etc.

Yeah I agree. I think all 1/2 tons are mainly daily drivers and occasional towing or hauling.
