Toyota already uses Planetary gear CVT transmissions. No belts and bomb proof. But 1/2 ton pickup?

I have flappy paddles on my 2015 Chevrolet SS, and drive the car almost exclusively in manual mode because it’s fun.

My mom has them on her new 2021 RX350, which I have driven exactly once. In manual mode the paddles are OK, but the gear spacing on the 8 speed is so tight that you end up grabbing two at a time on downshifts or to get effective engine braking.

    Not nearly enough room here!
Toyota could include them on the Tundra and we'd still have posters whining about how their truck gear-hunts and shifts too much:D

On TacomaWorld all you hear is the solution to the the gear hunting and crappy shifting is to sell your POS and buy a Tundra.

The 2022 release will be just the beginning of the pre gen 4 members blasting the gen 4 owners about how craptastic and ugly their new truck is. You might want to think about moderating a RAM forum instead. They at least seem to agree that every gen sucks.

I intend to become fully entrenched in the argument that the 2022 is a Gen3, not a Gen4. That's gonna be my hill :argue::D

Yah, I've become familiar with it because of people in this thread is well. I've ignored, unignored, and ignored again many times - I probably should just stick with my gut and leave people on ignore.

Ok, the black wheels on the new Tundra TRD are bugging the ever living shit out of me.
I hope there's a no-cost option for normal silver painted wheels, or they are valuable enough to sell-off, cause I just ain't into murder wheels

Well they’ll probably have a point when the 10 speed is left to it’s own devices. Seems like the few vehicles I’ve had a chance to drive with more than 6 gears (admittedly not many) wanted to swap cogs frequently seeking the optimal ratio.

On the plus side the ratios are so close together with more than 6 speeds that it’s not really noticeable unless you pay attention to it. The anecdotal one drive I had in my mom’s Lexus RX350 with the 8 speed, it shifted quite a bit on its own but never seemed to be in the wrong gear and the shifts are so smooth you don’t feel them and barely hear anything. The Lexus RX may be the definition of a soulless luxury oriented transportation appliance, but to its credit it makes a strong case for the concept.

The only "real" photo we have seen from Toyota was the TRD PRO, and the PRO has always had black wheels. I am sure other trims will have silver painted steel wheels for the SR and silver alloy wheels SR5, Platinum. Limited etc.
I agree with you on the black wheels - not a fan at all.

Black isn’t my first choice in wheel color either, but if they’re a nice forged wheel I’ll take them. Can always get them refinished in glorious chrome with gold accents like a set of Dayton’s, maybe repaint the truck in purple metallic flake and squat the back end to the ground. Make a Pimp-Dozer.

When I was younger I traded in often. As I got older and wiser I learned that I was spending far to much money on sales taxes.
