What everyone is using for towing a travel trailer with their Tundras?
I have Palomino Travel Trailer and it has 8" distance from the hitch ball center to the center of the tongue jack. Tailgate on the Tundra in open position is 18" from the hitch edge. Hitch pin is 2" down in the hitch tube. This brings up some math:
2" (hitch pin) + 18" (tailgate in open position) - 8" (travel trailer tongue jack to ball center) = 12".
I barely can find ball mounts with over 12" in length. Most ball mounts are 8" - 9" long. I have borrowed friends 16" HiddenHitch (2" drop) ball mount and it was working perfectly, allowing to drop the tailgate and get access to the bed (with bed cap its critical) while leaving trailer hooked up at the stops on the trip. Unfortunately this one seems to be discontinued as I don't see anyone having it for sale.
What are you guys using? Would much appreciated if you can share pictures of your setups and how you deal with opening tailgate with trailer hooked up?

The further you push those ball mounts out, the more leverage that weight has on your truck/payload. Just something to ponder.

Yes, that's pure physics, the longer the ball mount the more momentum will be at the vehicle hitch tube. With a light weight travel trailer this should not an issue.

I believe this is the one I borrowed from a friend. HiddenHitch brand. His old had the label washed out, so I couldn't read the part number. Unfortunately non of the places in Canada has HiddenHitch 80232 in stock or available to order.
I have asked for the one with 4"drop/2"raise and no shops were able to find anything in their system for such long length.

Relocate the jack or use a sketchy swivel jack. I would stay away from extending the ball out any further. Increasing the distance increases the leverage that your trailer has on your truck, in all directions.

My travel trailer has an A-form tongue with jack right in the middle. I see your point of getting another jack and relocating it on the side of the A, but this would not be ideal for trailer stabilization and not as easy to be done as on regular straight tongue.

I have more general question of what people use in their setups and how they deal with ability to open the tailgate with trailer hooked up.
I'd appreciate of members could share pictures of their setups, as sometimes pictures worth 1000 words...

My enclosed trailer has an A-form tongue as well and my tailgate will hit the top of the jack just like your. My plan is to mount a plate farther back to one side on the tongue so that I can relocate the jack. It should not be too much work, I just have not got around to doing it so I don't have any pictures.

Would be interested to see your solution once done. Please share pictures when you finish.

Good setup. I borrowed exactly the same ball mount from my friend on the last trip. You have it 2" drop position and your Tundra is well lifted. I used it in 3/4" raise position and still was missing about 2-2.5" to have the trailer leveled.
