I'm not arguing or saying you're wrong but I'll just put out there that I'm surprised that no other manufacturer has tried to do a full roll down rear window if there's nothing preventing them from doing so, patent-wise.

Again, Ford had this in the 96 and older Broncos. They couldn't patent it if they wanted to, it's probably not even patent-able, it's a window that goes down. Those have been around since cars have been around, give or take a few years.

 

My point is so why do they use those tiny windows in the new F150s, then?

 

I'm going to guess Ford didn't want to dedicate the space for that and perhaps demand wasn't/isn't there. The thin sheet metal under the rear window in most other pickups takes advantage of space for cargo or seatback room or behind seat room, etc. It's great that Toyota is doing this though but no, they weren't first.

To do a full roll down rear window in a truck requires a body shell specifically designed for it.
Other truck companies aren't going to invest that kind of effort when most of their trucks used to be ordered with solid rear windows or simple sliders.

I have a Gen1 Titan that has a relatively large (compared to domestics) roll down rear window, it looks fairly expensive to incorporate.

 

Sorry, but that is a butt ugly front end and grill.

Whoever designs the front ends for Toyota needs to be fired or relocated.

Call me weird, but I like the look of the front end. Maybe different at angles it won’t look right, but tight now it’s not bad. The GMC HD’s have a pretty good looking front end too. Those would be my 2 top picks… well maybe the power wagon with the vertical grill bars.

 

I think it looks better then the current gen Tacoma. But ugly front ends on full size trucks just seems the norm.

 

The bar has been set very low these last few decades.

 

The current GMC truck lineup is easily the best looking on the market right now in my subjective opinion. Of course looks should take a lower priority than just about any functional aspect of a truck, and for me they do; but a lot of guys on here seem to be very hung up on cosmetics.

Toyota is content to let us focus on cosmetics by releasing no substantive details about the functional aspects of the 2022. So I guess we get to speculate about functionality, while we talk about grilles, and headlights, and fenders.

My plan if I buy the 2022 or more likely 2023 will be to figure out the options I want, and then let my son pick the color, and any other cosmetic choices. I just don’t care, but he will be 4 or 5 depending on the model year and that will be the best thing ever to him. Besides as long as I keep vehicles, there’s a very strong chance my next Tundra ends up being my son’s first vehicle. So he might as well like the colors.

 

It's tricky with the angles from the pictures. I think from straight on it'll look way better in the "flesh".

It'll always look better than others that are conked out on the side of the road.

 

I’ve been driving up North a couple times a week for just over a year now , I’ve seen a couple Titans , a few Tundras , plenty of F-150s , lots of Rams and Chevys and a few GMCs . They all have one thing in common , none of them were on the side of the road . lol

 

Exactly....all these people that bad mouth the reliability of other trucks....and I see so many driving its ridiculous. Ford alone outsells our beloved Tundra I think 7 or 8 to 1. That is just Ford. I am sure we would see the results if others were really that bad. It is like our Toyota community refuses to believe someone else can make something good.

 

Please don’t get me wrong as I truly believe everyone knows the Tundra is the most reliable 1/2 Ton on the road . I’m just saying the other ones aren’t quite as bad as people think .

 

I do not think there is a bad 1/2 ton truck made.

 

My 2021 Plat arrives in August here in Denver...selling my 2011 Limited TRD. Will be pretty much same black truck just ten years newer. I'm not one for tech...but am looking forward to a few comforts like push button, touch sensor door handles and seat coolers. I'll have to put a topper on it for my window cleaning business

I just love how that 5.7 roars up hills here in the Colorado high country...never gets old...

When the next gen tundra nears the end of its lifecycle then I’ll pick one up

 

There’s two neighbours of mine that bought brand new Tundras and one of the poor guys had his for a week and went back into the dealer for 2 weeks, got it back for 1 week then went back into the dealer for another week . He’s had it back now for about a month and it’s one of the quietest vehicles I’ve ever heard now . It’s really impressive because I thought mine was quiet but it’s got nothing on his Tundra now .

 

Very true, but you may end up with a bad one. Of any brand

 

Chicago Auto Show is in less than 2 weeks...we should know more by then...hopefully.
