Most have issues and wind up needing the oem cover. The knock off cover is really only good if you have a pre 18 truck but want the new pro grill and don’t need to pay the $300 just to cover the hole since there is no tss system.

The question I have is does this glass "garnish" piece contain any of the radar or safety systems? Or is it just a pass-through?

I’ve tried a few and none worked. When it was all said and done, I should have just bought OEM.

My TRD-Pro Grill came in to my local dealer today. $336+tax. Will pick it up tomorrow. The $29 sensor cover came today also from Amazon. It's a thick chunk of plastic. I'm having doubts it will work. It does have Toyota stamped on the back of it like it's oem Toyota. Looks to be a quality part though. No flaws. well packaged. Plastic film over the front to keep it from getting scratched. Anyone have experience with the OEM part? Can you see through it? Is it fairly thick? I'll know soon enough if it works. Last piece of the black out puzzle will be HRS tail lights. They are currently out of stock. https://hirevsports.com/products/hrs-2014-20-toyota-tundra-led-tails-lights

Do yourself the favor and return the Amazon one and buy an OEM. Do your research, they don’t work.

I just did the same upgrade on my TRD Sport. TRD Pro grill and was being stubborn and not wanting to fork out the money for the OEM TSS Pro cover. I mean…it cost almost as much as the grill after all. I bought the MotorGenic knock off TSS cover for $70ish. Did not work. Ended up buying the OEM and haven’t had a problem since.

If you insist on trying the knock off, let me give you a little advice. Don’t just turn your truck on to test it, you need to actually put it in drive and start moving for it to trip the warning light. Second piece of advice, dont use the press on medal washers for the cover until you’re absolutely certain it’s working. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. For $29 I'll give it a shot. I may ask the parts guy if they have the OEM one in stock and buy it JIC. If the knock off works I can return the OEM part. Yes I am being optimistic.Garnish 1.jpg Garnish 2.jpg

Mine had the same fake Toyota writing on the back. You can even see it listed for sale on this website haha. I hope it works for you!

The knock offs are only produced to appease to pre 18 trucks that put the 19+ Pro grill on but don’t need the oem cover since they have no radar. It’s not even remotely designed to function as an oem replacement cover for the pre collision system.

I had the OEM garnish cover on my Tacoma(before the price hike) and have an eBay knockoff now on my tundra. My knockoff quality is just as good as the OEM one. My OEM one actually had a few imperfections that the Tundra knockoff does not suffer from.

I’m hoping for a coupon for the tail lights. At least now they have an in stock date and can preorder.

The OEM garnish is just a piece of plastic. It surprisingly didn’t look like anything special.

Where did you get that info from? The OEM sensor covers are specific in thickness, but they are all the same ABS plastic. Just use the Knock off and have it re calibrated at the dealership. I have a 2018 tundra with the sensor knockoff in the center of a 2017 TRD PRO grill and it works awesome even with the Toyota emblem in front of it. It just requires re-calibration. Anyone who is modifying it's location or position should have it re-calibrated anyway just to be certain it's truly functioning properly. i do like the modification of using the lower crown for the sensor and JB welding to the crown of the grill though, because I have behind the grill lighting. The bottom line on any sensor modification, just get it recalibrated. It's all just plastic that surrounds the thing. Toyota is making a killing on the cover, when it's the calibration that is all that's required.

I decided to order the OEM as I only wanted to do this once. Sent back the knock off.

I got a cheapy and it didn't take long to set off sensors. I tried to make it work, but gave up and got the OEM. No problems since.

Been running my eBay sensor for 2 years now. No issues. Ran one on my Tacoma before this and didn’t have an issue either. :monocle:

Currently on a road trip. Total round trip miles will be 460. So far still the same. Will keep you all posted. Toyota had a funny way of showing the importance of an OEM garnish. With a price tag that high. I get it though. The website I ordered the replacement grill and garnish stated I wouldn’t have any issues. They were wrong. Will find out if I can return this grill and bite the bullet and use all OEM.

Hey Whatsup guys new to threads! Was skimming through the post and stuff but didn’t really see the answer im looking for.

I have a 2020 toyota tundra sport and bought a 2nd hand trd pro grille. It didn’t come with the grille garnish. Does it matter if I buy the OEM or just off Amazon?

There are 2 styles of the Pro grille. Is yours the one with the cutout at the bottom for the garnish? The Amazon garnish is hit and miss. Most of the time, it does not work with the sensor because the garnish is plastic. The OEM is a different material, and is also around $300.
