I think my front speakers are shot. I get a nice crackle/rattle with any song that has bass these days.

I read in a Facebook group that if you replace the front speakers on a non-JBL system, you should get an amp and a sub to recreate a similar sound. Is this true?

I don't really want to spend a fortune. I'd welcome suggestions and recommendations. I'm handy enough to swap out the speakers myself, but once we get into wiring an amp, subs, whatever, I'm a cluster.

    Thank you in advance.

Some may have other recommendations, but when I've done stereo installs myself, nobody makes it easier than Crutchfield in my opinion. They include master sheets with instructions and what tools you'll need, what other accessories or brackets you'll need to make your other factory stuff work; all vehicle specific. They can also tell you if you need an amp and make it simpler for you to wire it; sometimes they even have wiring harnesses to make it all plug n play.

But as suggested above, it should be a warranty issue for you unless you are wanting to upgrade the sound system.

I agree with @ejes . Most of the time with Crutchfield, they include the plug and play harnesses and mounting adapters for free. If you don’t want to spend a fortune, you can upgrade just the speakers.

I'm in the same boat. 5 months old and front doors speakers are shot. My first instinct was to warranty them but if this is going to happen every 6 months I might as well go aftermarket. I went through this on my wife's Civic too. I just ended up going aftermarket.

They didn't blow because of anything you did, they may have a loose connection. I don't think they would pair speakers to a head unit/amp that would blow them when they are offering a warranty on the final product. Why should you eat the cost of defective product or design when you paid for a functional vehicle? If you get digging into it and anything else goes bad and you need to shop it, they might deny your claim because you altered it. Your choice.

You paid for the truck and the warranty, use it. If the fix goes bad, make'm fix it again. Keep records. Eventually it'll get fixed right or you'll get upgraded.

Warranty. Don't these speakers have odd configurations as well as strange impedance making throwing in aftermarket more of a challenge.

I recently ordered their add a sub harness. I hope there aren't any issues with it.

On a side note, is anybody running the kicker KSor CS series speakers in the doors? should I go with the 6.5 in the front doors since I'm adding a sub? Or should I stick with the 6x9s and tweeters?

They were having some serious shipping and stock issues. A harness should be made in house (hopefully), so it shouldn't be an issue. I'd have a backup plan just in case if you are in a rush.

go with 6.5's over 6x9's. Get components and put the tweeters in the sail panels. Only downside is you'll need a speaker adapter. You can make your own, or buy some. I have them from tech12volts they're just simple ones made of mdf (dont get plastic ones).

Look at the Hertz k170 for replacements Front doors. Cheap and sound great. Very easy swap.

I went with the kicker KS series 6x9 in the front and 6.5s in the back. I literally just got done installing them. The passenger door panel has a little rattle now, it's probably just a broken or bad clip.
The speakers that came out were 2 ohm which seemed near impossible to find. So these are 4 ohm but they sound really good. They definitely need to be amplified but they are still killing those sh i t speakers that came out of it.20210722_153239.jpg

I just went into best buy and got them. Next I am going to pair them with a kicker key 200.4 smart amp.
The brackets that came with them works just fine. You will have to cut a piece off for the 6×9 brackets to fit properly. Super easy though.
The sound quality is so much more clear. I am happy I went with the ks series over the cs series.
