I've looked around at those larger trucks with the big cabs, the toter would be sick but I could settle for just having a large enough cab to sleep in (though having a shower would be nice). If I'm going to get a diesel I don't want to be limited in options for towing/living.

I have a buddy that has an 2006 Sportsman. That rear bench is pretty nice for sleeping. Some have gen sets on them so you don't have to idle all night for heat/air.

Will do. I have lots to learn and honestly a little lost. I have a lot of reading to do. Thanks for the input. I'll take any and all of it.

I hope you have a full head of hair. By the time you get through it all:

-may or may not be an alcoholic.
-weight gain due to stress eating
    -questioning your manhood
-making a decision is harder than Chinese arithmetic
-you will have to compromise and choose that lesser of two evils.

I'm not brand loyal. The best truck what fits my compromises wins.

    Gas:

7.3L or 6.6L. This would be for 10000 lbs or less in my location. Other lower elevation areas that number would go up.

    Diesel:

Ram 3500 (2500 comes with the standard output only and 68RFE) 2018 older or 2021 newer.

    GM 2500-3500 LML with a CP4 conversion or L5P

i can’t see it weighing over 30k being that it’s mostly aluminum. I am looking to upgrade to one of the smaller atc toy haulers to pull around a 4 seater utv and still have a decent living quarters. Most toy hauler that fit 4 seaters are either massive or limited with the living quarters.

Just looked a little deeper at the stacker, it has 3 7klb axles so a gvwr of 21klbs. Any of the big 3 could pull that and still be in there ratings. Probably would be pushing payload but should be doable.

Just got back from a week long camping trip. I went from 100F+ degree weather in eastern Washington to record setting 100F+ degree weather in Western Washington. It’s supposed to be 111 tomorrow!
    :bananadead:
I really can’t believe how different the transmission temperatures are on my 6spd GMC vs my old Tundra. No matter what I do the transmission never gets over 200F, just put it in D and turn on the tow/haul mode. I did several significant climbs cruising at 65mph and it was about 105F out.

The problem I have with stories like this is they don't (and can't) have any consideration for long term reliability.

I also think it's silly when they test trucks that aren't intended to be comparable, e.g. Tremor vs Laramie. Obviously Ram doesn't offer the Cummins in the Power Stroke but maybe they should have convinced Ford to send something other than a Tremor.

From what I’ve read they ( magazine ) send a request to the manufacturers for a vehicle to test and the manufacturer decides what they send .

I don't know how much faith I would have in a Motor Trend article. A top quality for a truck is reliability and Motor Trend always seems to ignore this when comparing vehicles. I always got the feeling that they sell their review to the highest bidder.

Yeah, I get that Ford is trying to push the Tremor but placing last in a review isn't going to help their sales.

I have noticed that if I lock the truck and the key fob isn't in range the tailgate wont open when I push the button. Not a huge deal, but now if I know I will be using the truck, I will open it from inside before I lock the truck and take the keys inside. It will work like normal if I do that.

Now that I type this out, I wonder if its a setting in the truck that can be changed. I will look at it tonight.

Mine just flat out won’t open now unless I take the skin off the inside of the tailgate and manually open by moving the mechanism. I press the open tailgate button, hazards flash twice and nothing opens. It started yesterday when I actually needed to open the tailgate to load a pallet of sod. Took me five minutes of pressing all the buttons and pulling on the tailgate at the same time to get it to work once

Well a follow up to anyone else having the tailgate not opening, it ended up being a relay causing the issue

It took 4 mechanics working on it yesterday and then the shop foreman today to fix it. Good thing it’s brand new under warranty
