SurveyMonkey in February, which reveals that twice as many people (36 percent) want to always work from the office than want to always work from home (18 percent).

    Aha!
I worked remotely a lot last year before I left the State for the dealership. My wife also works remotely and loves it.
The other thing is that VANS' home base is in California and I have zero desire to live there. Not even a little bit. I have been actively working on moving to NEPA for the last few years and had actively campaigned for central NC before that. (I want mountains and trees and low population density.) I want to be free to roam about and go on adventures.

And for all the SurlyMonkeys I've taken, I reckon I've got about 5 minutes cumulative in the lot.

That’s because some guys can’t stand their wife and kids.

It’s both sad and funny at the same time.

I don't believe that many people want to ALWAYS work from the office. My team hasn't been allowed in the office for 15 months and just told told we have to go back 5 days a week. The entire team is angry. Some have already started looking for new jobs. I would prefer I come in 2 days a week and get 3 at home. I also like being around my wife and dogs.

    Can't relate.
    No kids.
Sexy wife. (we even like each other)
    Hate commuting.

My wife's company keeps sending out surveys to see what the peons want to do regarding re-entry to their cubes.
The results correspond to these almost exactly.

There are a lot of tech jobs. There are a lot of remote tech jobs. I wouldn't bother being angry. Vote with your feet. I have talked to a few tech managers who would just about hire any warm body. Even non remote positions are hiring people remotely because they can't get people. It's a great time to be an employee. I don't know what you do, but I would guess if you want to work from home, you probably can.

I wouldn't even consider a company that requires in office 5 days a week at this point. There are just so many other options right now.

That's what my wife is doing. She's got 2 interviews lined up for next week that are 100% remote. Worst part is she's currently at a startup that's saving $4k/month not having a huge space and has 0 local customers.

I'm not in tech. My background has been in supply chain and operations. I applied for 5 remote jobs last week just to see what would happen. Haven't heard back from any yet.

Late to the party but I used the 6 ton harbor freight jacks and I think I needed at least 21 inches fully extended.

Good luck with the hunt. It is kind of fun to look for a job when you don't have to look for a job.

That's when you get the best offers; much like car buying. :D

I still remember turning down a job making 1/3 more with a $20K bonus because I wanted to do something different.

I don't regret my decision, but the company that flew me out first class to San Diego wasn't too happy.

I should have explained better CEO wants everyone back in the office by September 1, so that $4k/month savings will be gone, just because he wants to see them.

They've been 100% remote since last February and the questionnaire they sent out something like 93% wanted to stay that way.

Well, damn. I’m gonna miss one of these guys :( (the one that contributed extremely detailed how-to’s on spinning straw into gold… and never leaving fingerprints). Plus we shared an obsession with pretending to be anonymous online. It was a good run. :angrygirl:

Agreed. It's always sad to see a knowledgeable and active member get their pink slip. If I had a 1GT I would feel the blow much more because of the constant write ups and info for the trucks.

    The Dirty T ( ^_^)_且

No shit. I got to work from home for about 8 months before they decided we needed to go back to the office. It was awesome, working from home I got up at 7:45. logged in at 8 and shut down at 3:30. Now going to the office I get up at 5:00 drive across town, get home about 4:30 and the day is already over. Stupid thing is that I got the same work done at the same quality with much less stress. But no, the powers that be decreed that it was necessary for me to dress up in business casual crap and sit in an office downtown.

I’m one that actually enjoys returning to the office. My field staff got lazy and complacent as all hell over the last year and definitely need some whipping back into shape. 0630 meetings every Wednesday make for accountability again and help bring everyone together. They can hate me, that’s fine. I’m here to manage projects and bring in revenue while maintaining healthy CMs, not be everyone’s buddy.
