I dropped my truck off at a shop to have the lift taken off. The guy who’s taking it off said that spindles I brought him are for 4 wheel drive, my truck is 2 wheel drive. I can’t find any information on a 2wd drive specific spindle. The spindles that I was trying to put on are from a 2014 4x4 my truck is a 2008 2wd. Is it possible that the years are just different ?

You need a 2WD spindle. The 4 x 4 version has a hole in the middle for the front axles.

Alright thanks any chance you could point me to a website that sells them. When I look on rock auto I don’t see any fitment detail for 2wd vs 4wd and I don’t know enough just by looking at it to tell the difference

Check the marketplace around here, you never know I might be somebody selling their stock stuff. Or here is a couple good sites for good prices on OEM parts.

They are the same other than 2wd has a metal dust cap that covers the hole for the front axle. Probably be difficult to find from online parts places, might be easier going to a brick and mortar Toyota parts to source them. I have 2wd spindles on my 4wd.

I have 4wd spindles already but the mechanic was saying they won’t work. So are you saying they will work ?

My mistake, I wonder if he could use the dust cap from his drop spindles

Haven't done it on a Tundra, BUT the 4Runner 2wd vs 4wd spindles are different. 4wd spindles hold the bearing differently and get preload from the CV nut tension. The 4wd spindles also hold the ABS tone ring differently than 2wd and use a spacer ring.

no. That is at the wheel edge. You need the dust cap that inserts into the back of the spindle

Look at part 2 in the diagram. Search front suspension on the parts list to get to what im referencing. You will see that the steering knuckle is the same part number for both 2wd and 4wd as well

Alright thanks. Would there be one on the lift spindles that I currently have ? Is it something that can be taken off and moved to the stock ones ?

Unknown as lift spindles are made only for a 2wd so they have no reason to put a removable plate. I looked at mine and it appears to be a plate just pressed into the center hole on the stock knuckle

If it is like a first gen, the spindle itself is probably the same but the bearings, hubs, and seals/dust covers are different. Not sure if the tone rings are the same. Toyota does this on some trucks to keep production simple.

Your aftermarket lift spindles might not have the right interchangeable parts that could be swapped to convert your 4wd to 2wd.

Any idea how ABS works with this ? The mechanic is now trying to explain to me something about it screwing up my ABS

I don’t know all the answers, but you may want to get the opinion/2nd estimate of another mechanic
