    Function before sparkle.
If it happens to multiple people is it a feature or a bug?

Can fully say now that ive been inducted into the Ford family, since my truck has a mini recall lol. Not a full blown recall, but the modem went bad.

I guess with new tech, comes new problems haha!

    I’ll keep everyone posted

If this was a major issue you wouldn’t see thousands of them on the road. I sometimes forget this is the Tundras/Ford bashing site.

My wife and I had the same experience in 2017. She wanted a Lexus but the interior seemed so dated. She wound up with an Infiniti (not my first choice).

I wouldn’t care. I’d still be driving my 2015 Tacoma with that same dash if I didn’t need a bigger truck.

Actually the vehicle reduced power so it would not overheat. Watch the video or read the article before commenting.

Yeah, not encouraging but trying to pull 10,000lbs up a fairly steep grade that is 10 miles long at 65MPH on a hot day is not something a 1/2 ton is designed to do.

There is a reason current 3/4 ton and 1 ton heavy duty trucks have massive tall front ends with giant grilles….. you know the sort of gaping maw that all the 2021 owners are complaining about on the upcoming Tundra. The bigger trucks not only have more power, but they have comparatively enormous radiators, intercoolers, transmission coolers, and probably oil coolers. They’re pretty much a rolling heat exchanger from the front axle forward.

So hopefully the new Tundra takes functional advantage of all that real estate up front devoted to grille square footage. If it translates into big ass radiators for the engine, intercooler, transmission cooler (let’s hope), etc then the Tundra hopefully won’t have the same problem.

One advantage the V35A-FTS has right off the bat is it uses air to liquid intercoolers (properly after coolers but whatever…). Which should keep manifold air cooler, and denser; not only helping maintain torque on a hot day but keeping combustion temps a bit lower and therefore taxing the engine cooling and oil cooling less.

The Nissan VR30DDTT is very similar to the V35A and also uses air/water exchanger. It's an Achilles heel of the Infiniti Qs. The system heat soaked rapidly, even in moderate temperature. The "solutions" that are used to help include special coolant, larger holding reservoir, larger/higher volume water pump and of course larger front exchanger. Costs about $3k for all of that.
Also, Stillen tried a similar cooling system for their 370z supercharger kit, and it heat soaked also. The solution to that kit is to change over to air/air intercooling. Problem totally solved.

From my point of view, A2W intercooling is not ideal, however with the massive schnoz of the new Tundra, I'm sure Toyota has implented A2W better than what can be done on a car with a smaller schnoz.
The real benefit to A2W is the charge piping is shorter reducing lag. However, it's far more complicated, with pumps, fluids, multiple exchangers, sensors, etc. If a touch of lag could be tolerated, A2A would be a more reliable, efficient system.

It's all about how well the system is designed and how much capacity it has. All of my equipment at work is air to water after cooling, and it's designed to run at full throttle all day long and will without issue.

That's mostly because Toyota is dragging its feet again. Makes you wonder if they need to go back to the drawing board because they were too conservative in advancement. Reminds me of the current gen Tacoma. Same truck as a 2005, but with some new panels and a worse engine.

Not that we can guarantee it, but here is a parts diagram of the V53A-FTS cooling system as used in the LS500, note there are two radiators. They are both the same size if the drawing is to scale which is suspect it is. The one in front (16550) is for the intercooler, the one mounted in the rear is for the engine coolant. If the cooling loop for the intercoolers have nearly the same surface area for cooling as the rest of the engine I am cautiously optimistic. Even more so if Toyota increases the size of both for truck and SUV duty.

Don't really agree with that statement. My 20 Pro was hit and totaled back in Sept. A witness said that my truck flew in the air as high as the traffic lights. I landed on the driver's side, every air bag deployed, and I was able to get out the back window (which was completely blown out) without a scratch on me. I thank the Lord everyday that I am still here.

I’ll probably go for whatever is cheapest on a dealer lot once initial excitement dies down.

If it does not and there are no deals to be had, or I have to order one I’ll probably pick a really boring color that doesn’t show much dirt and grime.
