So I am about to take a 2000 mile round-trip, 1000 of which will be towing a 1972 gmc I own. Will be towing through mountains. My brakes were done at 33k and now have 63k on the truck. I have a slight wobble like a rotor warp under hard braking. When the brakes were done, the rotors were turned. Should I redo the brakes again before the trip? Pads seem fine and have life left but Def has rotor wobble. 30k miles on brakes seems excessive though I regularly drive mountains with steep grades, just not usually towing.

I've read through some brake threads and it seems alot of guys are claiming 60k plus on original brakes. That seems normal to me as I usually go about 80k on my previous trucks. The 33k brake job was done as a toyota cop process so all oem. I'm not hard on brakes

Oem tundra rotors are notorious for warping, no idea why. But yeah, i would fix the issue before going on a trip like yours especially with trailer

If you have the money, put a new set of rotors and pads on. I have not heard any negatives about the aftermarket kits like Power Stop.

I would side with new rotors as well... My experience going downhill at speed with no trailer and warped rotors was nothing short of a nightmare... steering wobled uncontrollably scared me shitless.... for context I was going toward Santa Cruz, CA from San Jose and I ordered new rotors that same day... took the same route back but hugged that right lane and slowed waaaay down on curves... used the shit out of that manual shifter to coast and down shift to slow down instead of using the brakes..

Get new brakes, towing will amplify the problem…

Question if there's a slight balancing issue on tires could it exaggerate the feeling during braking?? My tires are due for rotation and balance But I'm getting that done tomorrow I may just wait and see how it feels after that's done and then make a determination

So got the tires rotated and balanced and had my brakes inspected looks like it's the rear brakes that are giving me issue. Going to turn the rotors and new pads .

    Why not replace the rotors?

Turning the existing rotors reduces the amount of metal available to sink heat (i.e. they'll run hotter) and they're just going to warp again.

Order the new rotors deliver to ur in-laws house, change it there. Hope you have all flat ground, any down hill will warp those rotors.

I'll have to see if there's enough time to, that's not a bad idea. I don't think the time frame is long enough though since it's such a short turn around. That and they live in the middle of farm country on a cotton field, so mail packages etc take a long time. That does make me think though to check auto part store stock near my in laws.

Funny thing.....I just replaced my rotors and pads yesterday evening. I was originally thinking that I would just have the rotors turned but, after inspection I realized that they were rusting real bad. Ordered cryo rotors from stop tech and yellow stuff pads. When I pulled the rotors I noticed that the back sides of both were completely jacked. Glad I ordered new. Not that expensive and not much work for piece of mind
