Possible blown engine

    2010 Beige Tundra TRD
    I was driving my 2010 Tundra and the rear main seal leaked out all my oil. Needless to say it won’t start now and seems like it’s out of timing and parts may have collided. It has a 4.6 liter engine. I guess I need to know how to check to see if the engine is salvageable. If it isn’t worth repairing, I was wondering if I should just buy a used 4.6 and try to swap it out. Any and all help would be appreciated.

    How many miles do you have on it? If it is high mileage, it may not be worth salvaging...

    My first thought is I wouldn't attribute timing and no oil, I'd be more inclined to think something seized up and the timing is fine. I assume you checked the oil and there is nothing? I also assume the oil pressure gauge on the dash was reading zero when the engine stopped running? I also assume the engine was in fact running and then just turned off?

    Personally I would start with just turning the engine over by hand, probably remove the serpentine so there's as little drag as possible, I would also pull the spark plugs so there's no compression. Put a wrench on the crank and see if it spins, if you've never done that before it will require a good amount of force to rotate but should move relatively freely. You want to spin the crank a few times and see if it gets hung up, or you hear anything, etc. This will indicate if the engine can not rotate freely. If it spins nicely, I would fill it with oil, and turn it over with the starter and see if it builds oil pressure (I'd pull the efi fuse and keep the plugs out, so it won't squirt fuel and it won't have any resistance to spin). See if it builds oil pressure, and mainly listen if it's clanking while spinning up with the starter. If everything sounds fine, I'd probably put the plugs in and see if it fires up OR do a compression test.

    There's lots of shit to go through to try and troubleshoot if the engine is blown, but start simple of seeing if it will rotate and then incrementally work up to trying to get it to start. You didn't give much information, just it ran out of oil and maybe timing is fucked and it won't run, all of that is pretty vague and can mean a lot of things.
