Just get in the habit of not using boost the last couple of minutes of driving. Usually you’re in a parking lot or pulling into work or driving down your street anyways.

I know on my diesel I had to idle for a few minutes to bring the EGTs down even after driving on side streets. It was of course worse in the summer months. One of the more annoying things about owning a diesel. My family would always get annoyed and just leave me in the truck while it cooled down. LOL.

Let it idle for a minute or so before shutting off to bleed off heat.
I already do that with my boat motor after a run. Scorching hot pistons with 50-80 degree water in the cooling jackets around the cylinders is gonna end badly if you dont let it bleed off heat. Same with a turbo.

Trans cooler aside, given that GM and Ford are using them, I think if Toyota excludes a turbo timer, it will be an admission that this is a mall crawler only. May as well put it in the not-a-truck gang with the Ridgeline at that point.

I don’t think any OEM’s making turbo charged engines don’t include what amounts to a turbo timer these days.

That's why the turbo timer is the way to go. Turn the ignition off, leave/lock the truck, it's still running and will until the EGT gets to a good temp, then the timer shuts the engine off. I put one on my diesel back in the day and it was great. The scariest part was drilling a hole in the exhaust manifold for the EGT sensor.

I completely agree and wanted one but I couldn't bring myself to walk away from my running truck with my trailer hooked up or at some of the ghetto job sites I have to visit. I know it shouldn't be able to be stolen but thieves are crafty and I'm paranoid.

Very concerning for me. I currently have a Crew Cab truck, and we are at a point where an Extended Cab would be more appropriate for us.

As it is, Nissan doesn't offer an Extended Cab Pro-4X (our recently disqualified option). I fear Toyota will also make the TRD Pro only available in Crew Cab.
Ford only offers the Tremor F-150 and Raptor in Crew Cab short bed now, so it seems most manufacturers are leaning that way.

With all this fretting about the turbo timer, why not just look at the Lexus TTV6 and see what it has?

I have a turbo timer on one of my cars. You’d be surprised how many people I’ve seen over the years checking to see if the door is unlocked while the car is idling.

Never had that issue. But it was an F350 with tinted windows. Probably couldn't easily tell if someone was in there or not.

I was taking with the manager at my dealership over the phone today and we have had a 10 year business relationship between work and family purchases. We were speaking about the 22 tundra and I asked is there any additional info that he has heard other than what is already out there. He mentioned a rep from Toyota was in the other day and they were asking him a shit ton of questions. The rep was pretty tight lipped but he did mention that the hybrid version will be near 700ftlbs of tq.

I trust this man but take it for what it is worth.

Sorry if this has already been out there, don’t follow page for page.

I have heard the same. The hybrid is supposed to be a game changer for HP and Torque on a 1/2 ton truck.

Unless this new model is different, the TRD PRO is basically just an appearance package that is pretty easy to duplicate and make even better if you wanted. For the amount of money they ask for that appearance package you could wrap an SR5 truck in whatever you want, put on rims, the PRO grill parts, and tires, and a better aftermarket suspension for probably less money than the PRO appearance package. Of course as mentioned Toyota may actually produce something special with this model and won't just be an appearance package. We shall see.

That would just make way too much sense. People these days often times refuse or are too lazy or dumb to search for the answers that are right in front of our eyes.

You are correct, I have been spending an inordinate amount of time on the Lexus website looking at parts diagrams for the V35A-FTS. Charge air aftercoolers are on top of the engine sitting directly on top of the intake manifold. They’re also on their own coolant loop, complete with pump and radiator.

Very similar (actually, pretty much exactly the same) to the 400HP VR30DDTT in my Q60 and the upcoming 2022 Z35.
So far, so good on the Nissan end, this motor has been around since mid 2015. I am confident Toyota will be able to at least match, likely surpass the efforts of Nissan on this style of engine. I wonder if the V35A has turbine speed sensors like the 400 VR30?? Probably does.
