Hello and thank you for taking time to read this post, and a double thanks if you respond.

I have a 2013 Tundra 4x4 Flex and I wanting to know if I can tow this trailer https://www.rvusa.com/rv-guide/2013-palomino-solaire-travel-trailer-floorplan-307-qbdsk-tr15907.

I know that the GVWR for the trailer exceeds the Tundra's adverised GWVR by 1100 lbs. I just don't know if other numbers/modifications should be considered. I bought the trailer based on the fact that is advertised as an Ultra Lite weighing ~6000 lbs. I didn't do due diligence and now I find out the TT's GVWR exceeds the Tundra's advertised capacity. I'm hoping that someone can give me some good news. I don't want to get rid of my Tundra.

I have some good news for you, and maybe not the best news.

You are not over the Tundra Gross Vehicle Weight rating. The 8835 lbs is the max the trailer can weigh.

The hitch weight is going to soak up a good portion of your trucks capacity (the GVRW and GAWR).

That is a lot of ass behind you, but luckily you are in a low elevation location without any mountain passes.

Please post a picture of the sticker inside the driver's door of your truck that shows your payload if you have one (I'm not sure if Toyota was doing that back in 2013). The hitch weight of that trailer is going to put you close to your payload capacity (i.e. put your truck close to its GVWR) before you've even got people and gear in the truck or propane, battery, water and gear in the trailer.

Also, 34 feet is a LONG trailer to be towing with a halfton.

There is a 0.0% chance I would even attempt to trailer that with a tundra (or any half ton)…..

I might be conservative but am with you on this one. Dry weight above equals the GVWR of the one I’ve towed and, sure, probably could tow more but no way staying under payload with a family of 5 or maintaining piece of mind with a trailer that size. Weight aside, that thing is way too long.

Thanks for the responses. I have my answer. The length is as big a problem as the weight. Here's the picture of the sticker in the door of the truck.

Not safe for you or anyone sharing the road with you...plus it's illegal.

Keep your Tundra....Sell the trailer and buy one 1/2 the size. That sucker is huge.

    Don't do it.

    On one hand...
    - You can probably do it in terms of power, you can make it fit within all specs
    - Lots of people do it

    On the other hand...
    - It's a very large trailer. Think of the "sail" it will create when it's windy. When it's calm you'll be fine, but when a 30MPH gust hits you - then you might end up like that guy who was hanging off a bridge by a single safety chain! And he had a big F350 or something.
    - You haven't bought it yet so still plenty of time to change your mind.

Decide if you like the truck or trailer more. If you like the truck, get a smaller trailer. If you want the trailer, it's a great time to trade for an F250

Can it tow it - probably. Capacities are not strict limits - they are calculated based on things that also include their ability to handle the weight in typical conditions and the ability to safely handle the load.

Would I - as others have pointed out - NO. You want to be able to USE the trailer - not move it 500’ from point a to b. Safely towing something of that size - regardless of weight likely needs a much larger truck. You want to be able to drive normally on a roadway and a Tundra is simply not going to give you that with that trailer.

Will my Tundra tow this trailer?

I see you has teh 2013 model. That means you have an OEM ATF cooler therefore the following statement applies: Tundra is pulling champion.

You may not be able to stop or change direction without the trailer trying to get out in front of you.

Take heart, though... if you had a 2019 Tundra the transmission would've reached supercriticality and started an uncontrolled fission reaction the moment your trailers tongue made contact with the drawbar.

I would consider towing it...ONCE. To a seasonal site. And it would be empty. I would never consider loading up that trailer and heading out for a weekend with the entire family and all our gear in a Tundra.

Yikes, a 28 foot trailer would be too long for a Tundra. In this case it's much less about the weight and much more about the giant wind sail that you will have virtually no control over.

As for the weight aspect alone, people in RV forums with appropriate towing vehicles for what you want to do (which as mentioned is 3/4 ton or 1 ton) will try to go by the 75% rule of thumb. So if your truck is rated for 13800, they will not buy a trailer heavier than 10,350. That's the weight safety margin. In your case the larger issue again is the size. Have you ever carried a sheet of plywood or drywall in a light breeze? Now try running with it in heavy wind.

If you're not going to heed this advice at least tell us where you'll be towing this when you do!

    Can you - Yes

    Should you - no

That is a big SOB. Tail wagging the dog scenario IMO, especially with a decent crosswind. For me, that trailer would be mean hands down an HD diesel.

I have a travel trailer similar to this, a Solaire 292 QBS. That being said I have towed it from the dealer (90 miles or so) to our seasonal site. The only time I have moved it was for switching sites in the last three years. The summer before that I towed a smaller 249 gray wolf across South Dakota to the Black Hills and back. I will walk across South Dakota before I pull a camper to the Black Hills again.

If you want to keep the truck and the camper, I would store it near wherever you want to go camping. Yes, it limits you a bit but try towing the camper on a windy day. As soon as a bigger vehicle passes you and you get pulled toward them you’ll learn that towing a camper is not for the faint of heart.

I love my truck (2014 Crewmax 4x4 V8) and it tows everything besides our camper just fine. With our seasonal site we take the Highlander and the truck only goes up when we need to pull the boat out to fill it with gas.

Good luck. Just giving my two cents.

He would need a heavy duty to tow that trailer but why does it have to be a Ford?

My favorite USA brand. It has to be a Ford. There's no other reason - and the same reason why everyone who drives a USA made truck. Each just has a different badge, otherwise very similar.
