Best Brake Pads & Rotors...

I am Looking for advice... from others experience with brake and rotor replacement. DIY is not an issue as I have done lots of brake jobs. There are tons of brands and set-ups on the market with brands I am not familiar with.
I and looking to replace pads and rotors at 48k (May as well do everything at once) prior to installing wheel spacers and looking for guidance on the best setup and Brand. (I have had good luck in the past with Bosch on my cars.) am not looking for super high performance, but something of good quality and reliable that is an improvement over OEM. Any experience with slotted discs?

Stick with Toyota pads. Buy coated rotors. I like Centric rotors. Or get OEM rotors. I have 70,000 on my OEM setup and they are just now fading a little. I tow a boat and I'm rough on brakes. Slotted work well but they will wear much faster.

EBC every time, I’ve used them on multiple vehicles, I’ve used their yellow stuff pads and have never had an issue.

 

It seems to me you have to go a level above when going after market and they can be finicky..

Mentioned above are EBC's and I could NEVER get them bedded properly. Always squealed....

I've done a LOT of brakes though the years and have come to the conclusion OEM least problematic...

Had 93K on original oem rotors. Went with them again. Good luck. D

 

I just did all four corners with OEM rotors and Hawk LTS pads. 74k on the stock stuff and they were still fine. The Hawks seem to bite a little better but they are considerably dirtier than the stock pads.

 

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I will stick with the basics and get OEM Rotors and some good pads and call it a day. I have not noticed a lot of wear on my current rotors and they aren’t warped. I will know more when I pull the wheels off. I have noticed that there is a wee bit more travel in the pedal than I would like. It’s hardly noticeable and I am wondering if it’s just the way the trucks are. My BMW brakes were really tight and responsive, so maybe this just runs different.

 

The more I read about Brakes/Rotors/ for our trucks, I'm more likely to replace mine with OEM......IF Toyota's beancouters haven't with their quality! After 9 years though, the odds are against me. My Mechanic tells me I'll see 100,000 miles out of my OEM brakes. I just can't rationalize changing to something else, if I can still buy what's on the truck now.

You can also go TRD pads. They are a direct replacement for stock. They have an extensive brakin procedure but if they are anything like the rest of the TRD parts they will add peformance.

 

OEM rotoes and pads are very hard, they last a long time but lack performance, especially when wet or hot. You want your pads to wear, that's how they generate stopping power, although not too quickly. I would gladly change the brake pads every 35-40,000 miles for increased performance out of them and the peace of mind that comes with that.

 

Trying to get OEM part number for front Brake rotors. I was told by my dealership they are on back order for 2 months. Anyone running into this issue?

I second this. I feel that the stock pads are too hard as well. Braking on the stock setup requires a bit too much effort. In this day and age, my 11 year old should be able to bring this truck to a stop from 75 MPH without an issue.

Looking to get either Brembo (09.C500.11) rotors $90 ea or R1 Concepts Rotors (WDPN1-76052) $113 ea.

 

it can all be soo much information that you just dont know what to believe. I have been looking at aftermarket brakes and rotors however during a routine maintenance check the dealership said that only one side of the brakes showed signs of wear and they needede to be serviced. I was expecting a thorough break down on the cause of this but all I got was two turned rotors ( maybe ) and new brake pads on the front.
It came at a time when I was undecided about what brand of brakes to go with. Power stop was insufficient and troublesome from what i have read and i had heard that drilled, slotted and drilled and slotted rotors 1. could not be turned thus needed to be replaced when you changed pads 2. some of the aftermarket brake rotors will actually interfere with turn as they hit the rim on my 2019 tundra trd pro. I do realize that this is a truck and not a race car but I too wish that the tundra brakes were like my bmw stock brakes.

At 85,000 I thought I knew better and did powerstop rotors and pads…they suck…stick with OEM

I put hawk pads on my hummer h2, fit perfect, grab really well, same on my c5, so far great luck with hawk

I just picked up 2 front OEM rotors. Toyota is having a back to school 15% off sale. Couldn't pass that up.

 

I have always used OEM brake stuff on my 34 year old Cruiser. Swapped the original Tundra pads 30+k miles ago with OEM. Just noticed my son's 4Runner needs new pads on all four corners at 65k...it will get OEM again.
Toyota brakes in good tune work well, IMO (even their 30 y.o. junk). OEM stuff fits and works well, very predictable.

 

I think I about to put some Akebono Pads on my truck soon.

And EBC dimpled and slotted rotors.

Slight derail here. I have 58K on my 2020. Brakes are fine so far. When I do change I plan on staying OEM. How do i know if I need new rotors as well as pads ? I live in SC so no salt or rust issues. No issues thus far with vibration under braking.

if it stays like this can I just change pads when time and call it a day ?

 

So when I plug in the part number for front brake pads it tells me that is only for up to 2017 Tundras. And that part 04465-02440 is the one for 2020. I haven’t checked all the other parts yet.
