What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Great tip! I see a lot of tundras or sequoias with one or two missing, Discount tire actually broke one on the front but they got me a new one so I have an extra just in case.

 

I just took mine off. I like the rugged look.

 

Seems like a good idea but I doubt anyone really wants to
dismount,
remove cap,
remount,
take to tire shop,
drive home,
dismount,
install cap,
and remount all 4 corners

 

The caps just pop off. No need to dismount. (At least for my 02 alloy wheels)

 

Yes but you need to push them out from inside. Or at least mine do. As well as removing the metal ring BEFOFE you pop the cap out so the plastic tabs last till next time.

 

Wow, that’s a lot to do. Mine has a slot to insert the flat part of the tire iron to pry off.

IDK, maybe using the slot is more risky and can break off a tab if you’re not careful.

 

There is an opening on the side of the cap, I just insert a flat screw driver and pry out. Takes me about 2 minutes to remove all, very easy

 

No need to dismount.

Thicker due to the added weight of the column and stuff. Driver will pull down hard on impact on the wheel. Passenger won’t even touch the dash (unless a belt isn’t worn)

I washed the truck. I wiped the inside down.

Foam canons and microfiber drying towels have been game changers for me.

I also washed the camper.

 

Ordered the Tundra a new gas cap today - redundancy, cause my fingers gets old sometimes.

 

Hmm, what were you using to clean those centers? Cause maybe it's the cleaning rather than the factory painting?

Bumping these old posts. I've been hearing a metallic clink/rattle when driving with the windows down and going over bumps. Yesterday I started poking around under the truck and was able to replicate the noise when I smacked my sway bar. My Suspension Maxx sway bar links had worked their way loose after 2 years. The metal washer was rattling against the sway bar. I forgot what a pain they are to tighten.

Just posting as a heads up for anyone running these. Might be a good idea to check them.

Yes they appear to be in great shape still. The way they designed it, it's very difficult to get a pair of vice grips on the bottom. You have to keep that from spinning while you tighten the nut on top and there is barely any space. I had to hammer my vice grips in before clamping them down.

 

Mine work themselves loose every once in awhile too and have a distinguishable clunk. Still much better than OEM. I found a 9/16" stubby wrench to fit in the bottom, it's not super thick and I can usually get it on that bolt head no problem. Everything else I already have is too big.

That is good tip. I'm definitely ordering that. I remember when I initially installed these I tried searching the Google for "really thin vice grips" and didn't end up ordering anything. I didn't think I was going to get the passenger side yesterday but finally clamped it with so much force it couldn't move.

So, is it vice or vise? Internet has it both ways.

 

I used a grinder and cut an access area where the lower bolt of the Suspension Maxx attaches to the LCA so a wrench or socket can easily be used on it. Excellent access to that lower bolt now thanks to Mangling Monday.

Yeah, I tried a few different things on the bottom that kinda worked, but was worried I was going to round it out and give myself a headache. I could easily remove them on the trail with that wrench if I wanted.

Homer spells it Vise. It's not often Homer lets me down.
