In the market for a new torque wrench and looking for recommendations. I have a Craftsman that is about 15 years old but only goes up to 75lbs and need something that probably goes up to 200 or 250lbs. Let me know what you have used and like.

Depends on the use case. For engine building I use a snap on. For most anything else I use some older craftsman’s.

No engine building here. Mainly for suspension items, lug nuts, etc. I rented one from Autozone when I installed my rear sway bar but would like have my own that can go higher than my current Craftsman. I would buy a Craftsman again except they just don’t seem to be what they used to be.

A word of caution, from my experience, the wrenches with a more narrow torque range tend to be more accurate. I would not trust a torque wrench to properly set a bolt at 30ft lbs when it has a range of 25-250. Lug nuts and beefy suspension parts, sure.
I've got a digital ACDelco wrench in the smaller tq range for engines on my dirtbikes. It's tits. Not too pricey either. I then have several larger off-brand analog wrenches for the bigger stuff. If I were to buy a new wrench for lugs and suspension parts, I'd probably just get a Craftsman down at the ol hardware store. Even if its a few ft lbs off, at 75lbs+ or what not, who cares.

I need a 250 lb ft torque wrench for trailer hitch and truck lug nuts.

    Lowes Craftsman 50-250 $90
Northern Tools Klutch 30-250 on sale $80 (reg $95)

    Which one to buy?

I have only used it for retorquing and checking my wheels, but it seems to work. Came with a little spec sheet that showed it was within +/- 2% or something.

    Has a hard case too.

Damn you... just place an HD order. Guess I'll stop by my local store tomorrow and get this. Good price for a generic torque wrench.

I ended up buying the Husky one at HD as well. It has worked well so far and I might go ahead and purchase the other sizes too.

Why not buy a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter?

I wanted the lower range, wife approved tool purchase.....and I didn't even know that thing existed.

I also thought using an adapter on a torque wrench was frowned upon for accuracy?

If one believes a quick google search...

I thought the smaller one might be useful in areas that might be difficult to use the longer handle of the1/2".

CDI and Precision Instruments used to make some of the Snap-On torque wrenches. The older split beams were made by PI.

I bought CDI through a garage journal recommendation. Very good wrench.

Im a big fan of electronic torque wrenches.

Precision instruments, it’s who all the tool trucks torque wrenches including snap on are made by and you can get them off Amazon for 1/3 the price.

I've been using this 1/2" Husky for the last 1.5 years and it works great. The "set the torque" mechanism is integral with the "lock the torque" ring and works easy. Numbers are easy to read.
