Who still runs a factory spare? Mine is original and looks to be in good shape, but it's oooooold. Has to be a 1999 date code. Anyone replaced theirs due to age alone? I've never run it and it holds air good. No sidewall cracking or anything.

My spare is still original. Probably needs to be replaced, but looked okay as of last July.

It’s a spare, just like a donut temp spare.

image.jpg Mine was OG when I pulled it to do my rear swing out, now it’s a mosquito haven. I was saving it to pull the TPM but a local tech said it’s probably going to die sooner than later so don’t bother. There is also a 17” steelie laying on this, that I will probably still keep; maybe see if it can fit under with my new duals, but the 16” is going out for brush and bulky this weekend.
I got a full size spare, KO2 with some camber wear on a 4runner trail rim(7.5” wide) for 25$ and that’s what I roll with as a daily spare

Still rocking my original. Recently had 4 new Michelins mounted and asked for the best old tire so I could replace the old spare but I doubt it's worth the trouble.

Not on this truck. Grandpa always had Triple a.

I should replace the spare tire, because my bichelins are pretty new, and it’ll take a while before i change em.

    I've used one 4 times.
One on my 07 Patriot when the wife picked up a 4 inch 3/8 bolt.
One on my 05 Grand Cherokee when the stem snapped off of the TPMS.
One on my parents Cherokee from a 1/4 inch cotter pin complete with the cable tether.
One on the Tundra when a 3" deck screw went in sideways and punctured the tire in 3 places.

That last one is why the spare got replaced too. It was of unknown vintage so I ended up replacing both rear tires and having the good one mounted on the spare.

No spare on the buell. Had to ride 50 miles with one of those rubber coated strings glued in the tire.

I've got two in the one tire on the Durango and another in one on the Tundra.

They're a perfectly good fix for straight punctures on tires that weren't run flat.

7 years tops for the original spare. 6 is better to replace. The spare may look newish but it's far from being reliable. Why take the chance? Nothing wrong going cheap on a new spare but make sure it's the same height as the tires you have mounted. Some folks get a 5th tire exactly as the other four in order to do a five tire rotation regimen.....

I replaced my 17 year old spare in 2019 with a new BFG. I wouldn't want to drive on a ~20 year old tire.

    I guess my logic is …… it’s a spare
Not for full time use, get me out or a bad situation until I could get a replacement.

Anyone know what the largest spare that will fit under the bed? 33’s? I remember a little wiggle room.

I have never used my spare. When I changed out the factory hitch I was checking the spare and I honestly don't think I will ever get it out anyway since what holds it in there is so rusted that it wouldn't be worth it. I hope I never need it.

Mine was not to original. But even then I replaced it with a new matching size 255/80r17 steel wheel and tire. LSD doesn’t like a smaller wheel and larger tire on the same axle. Still in the stock location though

Both my tacomas have the OG spare

I have the original spare. I dont worry too much though. It still looks good plus I also have a plug kit and air pump on board. If the spare fails odds are I should be able to plug my other tire and be ready to roll
