    A bunch
Best part is there's usually a lot more 1 tons on the lot, at least around here so maybe you won't have to wait

Sadly, no trucks on the lot that fit my needs.

Today I went to Ken Garff Ford - they will give me $52k for the Tundra. This will result in a tax savings of $3770, so I am effectively selling the truck for $55.7k

They will knock $3k off my build, so just under a 5% discount.

The way it would work is that I would give the Tundra up immediately and the build process would start. I should have the new truck between September and December. During that time I would have no truck payment. I do have a 4runner and a Rabbit so I'm not going to be taking the bus.

    The build is as follows:

    F350 Lariat - Star White
    7.3l
    Crew Cab
    Tremor Package
    Lariat Value Package
    Lariat Black Appearance Package
    5th Wheel Setup

Pretty sure I'll be dropping the Tundra off tomorrow, but waiting for a couple other dealerships to give me their best offers.

Get a Carmax quote too, and if it's better than theirs, get it in writing. Last I heard they were between what Carvana and Vroom were offering and all 3 were above most dealerships.

I've checked Carvana and Vroom and their offers have been considerably lower than the dealer offers.

The other benefit of the trade is the tax savings..

Sounds like a solid offer for the times. Out of curiosity, what is the MSRP for the Ford build?

Love that Tremor package... If I needed a HD truck, I would have picked up a 250/350 with a Tremor package over my TRD Pro!

If you haven't already, you may want to create an account on the Ford.com site, and then go in and play around with the "build and price" tool for your desired F350. Go in and play around a few times a week. Also, go to their "brochures" section, and have it generate one for the Super Duty. At times, Ford is known to send out Private Cash Offers (PCO's) that can be used in addition to any incentives / rebates. I don't think there's an exact science behind how to trigger one (or if any are actually running right now), but it seems like creating an account on Ford and playing around does trigger it from time to time.

Also, if you happen to invest, and have owned 100 shares of Ford stock for at least 6 months, you qualify for X Plan pricing. You can read a bit more about it here (have to scroll through the FAQ to "Do Shareholders Qualify for Vehicle Discounts" heading). Now, you may actually have a better discount than X Plan negotiated, so you'd have to check that out. (And, due to your lengthy "delivery window" target, you may be able to pick up the 100 shares now if you're not an investor and be qualified if it gets pushed back into December...)

Interesting you plan on going with the 7.3L pulling doubles. I’ve watched a bunch of videos with people towing some really heavy loads with this setup and been impressed.

What was the deciding point for you on this option?

4.30 gear ratio with the Tremor package and 7.3 brings the tow capacity up to almost the same level as the 6.7 Powerstroke.

Price is a factor as well. To make this seamless and not incur more debt than I already have I need the sticker price of the new truck to be under $67k.

I will tow but it will not be all or even most of the time - just a couple weekends a month and maybe a few longer trips throughout the year. If I were towing more frequently I would absolutely have gone with the Powerstroke.

I am not 100% against additional debt, but want to have zero debt and lots of savings when I retire so I am careful with it. If I were richer I would have gone with the Powerstroke as well. The 7.3 seems to be very reliable and a capable tow engine from all I am reading. Also watched several comparison tests on YouTube.

$68500 with options I mentioned above. Dealer incentives bring it down to $65500.

Going to swing by one more dealer today and see how they value my trade. Their price for the same build is $200 more. If I can get $1000 more on my trade (53k) I'll sign on the spot.

Do it! as great as the Tundra is its just no match to a 3/4 or 1 ton from the big three when it comes to towing.

All of the big three have their flaws but overall are pretty decent trucks. I crossed shopped all three since I've never owned an "American" and went with what I felt would fit my own personal needs. The first time you tow with your new rig you'll forget about the Tundra ;)

Good luck on the purchase and please throw up some pics when you get it

I have to respect that and understand. I retire at 50 which is in three years so I can relate.

If I recall correctly, pre-pandemic at least, it was pretty easy to get F350’s around invoice.

Maybe shoot the dealer invoice + 700 and see if they will bite on a known sold unit..? Can’t hurt.

I can’t hate on that decision. I’ve been thinking about a 7.3 Lariat gasser also. If I build one and wait I can get one for right at 62k, that’s with no discounts and before TTT. It would be all the truck tat I would ever need. You don’t have to spend 75 or more to get a nice 3/4 truck.

thats what TFL did. Purchased a F-250 FX4 packaged truck with the 7.3L, and built it for cheaper than the tremor package.

Guessing by the post at the dealer above, it's a done deal? Did you hit your "sweet spot" for pricing?

The FX4 package has the rear locker. To be honest, I doubt the front has a LS. They most likely installed something similar.

I have a 97 Ford F250 with the 7.3. It tows more than my Tundra will ever think about. I used it mostly to move logs and for our remodel to take demo stuff to the dump or to pick up material. I am getting to old to wrestle with logs and I am about done with the remodel. My Tundra is easier to drive, park, is faster, more comfortable and more fun to drive. One is a work truck and the other is my play truck. Sometimes you need a big hammer and sometimes you need a mallet. If you want to tow the stuff that you are talking about the F250 is hard to beat. The F150s, however, just suck. Good luck with your choice.

FWIW check with your local Toyota dealer to see what they would give you may get what your wanting I know in my area Toyota dealers do not have any Tundras anywhere I’ve had the dealer I deal with call me wanting to know if I wanted to sell mine he’s a friend so I asked him what was up and he told me they just can’t get any Toyota’s for their lot right now and when they get them in it’s one here and one there and they are sold before they arrive. He told me I could get get a lot out of mine right now if I wanted to sell it. I’m hoping when I go in for my oil change next month they don’t get too crazy who knows what I would do.
If I was to purchase a 3/4 or 1 ton I’d go diesel though. Good luck on your new truck.

I didn't have time to dive into this earlier and what I have to say is even more relevant now anyway after just getting home.

The 7.3L/10 speed is a pretty good setup, and if you decide to get the truck tuned by 5 Star Tuning these trucks drive totally different (in a good way). 10-12K lbs the GM 6.6L is a great setup for someone that doesn't want to off-road a full sized truck. Colorado...good luck. Utah...good times.

I've seen some comments about "I would get the diesel", but some may not know what it takes to maintain one. For instance, I did a late evening run to Wally World to get some items. On the way to the store (9 miles into town) I noticed my truck was about to go into exhaust regeneration. I'm sure I could make it....

While at my least favorite place to be looking for DEF Fluid, every shelf was empty. Great. This almost defeated the whole purpose for going out besides getting 35 gallons of 91 octane and 30 gallons of diesel. I went to a gas station near by to see if they had some overpriced DEF fluid. Nope. Great.

So I decided to head over to the fuel station to redeem my 1.00 off per gallon for 35 gallons. I also had an additional .80 cents off for 35 gallons. Well on the way....sure as stink on crap my truck went into regen. Some people know this, but you don't want to stop during a regen. This just wastes more fuel on an already expensive process. Out to the freeway I went to spend 30 minutes driving consistently over 30 mph with no stop and go traffic.

Completed that 30 minute drive to clean my exhaust particulate filter and headed back to the fueling station to get 65 gallons of liquid gold.

Why am I telling you all this? I want to talk a little about the costs. Every regen I do it eats 6-8 gallons of diesel that is injected into the exhaust to bring temperatures up to 1100-1250*F to burn the "soot". My truck regens about 400-500 miles when towing. It's all about how much fuel is being used. If I'm at max GCWR it is around 400 miles. When I took a trip down to Oklahoma, I went 815 miles between regens due to being empty on the way down and getting 22-24 mpg. Don't forget while driving diesel is being used as well. I'll just keep that out of the equation. I do have the ability to do a manual regen, but that is loud and I try not doing that around my house. The engine RPM is brought up to 2500 RPM, exhaust temps are increased up by injecting fuel in the exhaust, and 30 min later the process is done. The hood is up and the big cooling fan is locked in pretty much the whole time. It sounds like a jet engine is taking off. Your neighbors will hate you. This process seems to use the least amount of diesel and in addition usually gets a better cleaning.

So 8 gallons is worst case scenario on a regen. Diesel in my area is 3.29 a gallon. Every regen costs me 26.32 every 400-500 miles since I rarely drive my truck for "shits and giggles" unless you are @jberry813 and I'm picking him up from DIA (he doesn't like the DMax) so I drive it every time....LOL! (Love you boo) Now you have to be careful on this regen process as well. Do I have enough fuel? Going into regen between half and a quarter tank can get sporty. On long trips, I take an emergency 5-10 gallons just in case. I got caught once with my pants around my ankles in South Dakota during bike week. I went into regen and needed fuel BAD. I was trying to avoid Sturgis like the plague but had to get a lot closer than I liked. Not sure if anyone has taken a 28' camper through Sturgis during bike week. That was fun. Actually the bikers were cool as hell and helped me out.

Now during all this fuel being used during towing and regens...guess what? DEF fluid is being used. Remember I said tonight was a strikeout for finding any. I'm at about 1/2 a tank for DEF, so I'm ok for a while.

Keep these things in mind when thinking "I'm getting the diesel" and if it's needed or worth it. For me, the stretch is worth the cost. Most? probably not. If you are daily driving a modern diesel to a workplace that sits in a parking lot...you're doing it wrong and will pay for it in maintenance costs. Ask anyone that has had a fuel system failure or exhaust emissions problem. My exhaust is 3800.00 to replace. At 100K miles I will completely remove my exhaust and have it cleaned to help prevent plugging and full replacement. This will cost me 500.00 if I remove the exhaust myself and take it in.

    Food for thought....

Great info, and spot on with my research. There are a gazillion “gas vs. diesel” arguments out there to research. Depends on each persons needs and wants. I went with a gasser, I don’t need the diesel and it’s a pricey upgrade. If you go diesel, you might as well go all the way to a 1 ton and possibly duallys too.

I forgot to mention this part earlier as well, and wouldn't have done so with as much knowledge and detail as you have here..

Another part of my decision to go with the gas engine was the ongoing maintenance cost and unfamiliarity with the diesel platform. I have watched a lot of videos where lifelong diesel fanatics are switching to gas because of the emissions controls on newer diesel platforms.

If I were towing daily, or even a few times a week I would have gone that route.

I won't be dailying the new truck just like I didn't daily the Tundra. Under 10k miles in over 16 months of owning it. Literally 90% highway.
