So I'm turning into one of those guys who fell behind simple technology. My Tundra and Armada have a single disc CD player. I still have CD binders lol. What the heck do I need to do to catch up? I want lots of CD's stored electronically to easily carry around. Especially for our future road trip. What's best, iPod, download to phone, mp3? Where is the best place to download legally at the best price. I prob got 40 CD's I would love to download. Can I categorize them? Need help!

    Spotify is a good option.

Ten bucks a month, unlimited access to one of the largest legal music archives.

Download to your mobile phone android or iphone.

    https://www.spotify.com/us/

This is probably the most popular option out there right now.

So when you download the songs they are forever yours or just during subscription

Unfortunately, it is only yours during subscription. However, everything is available. The selection is outstanding even for hard to find older music.

If you're looking for a permanent option I would recommend using iTunes and an iPod/iPhone. It's still the most convenient way

I download from www.mp3va.com. Its like a 1 - 2 bucks an album and you can download to as many devices as you want. After you download you can just click, drag and drop into ITunes or unzip straight onto your phone. A few buddies and I share an account and we go and download each others stuff to make it even cheaper lol

You already own the music..if you use windows media player it will convert the CDs to mp3's and into your hard drive, now you can copy them into thumb drives, or your phone.. I just copied mine into a 32gb microsd that is on my phone or I can stick it in a usb microsd card reader and use in my car.

You can "rip" your cds and turn them into mp3, meaning into digital files you can have on your phone and then bluetooth or conenct via aux cable and listen in your truck or put them on a jump drive and play them from there in your truck.

If you have a mac then you can easily rip your cd's with Itunes:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1156861/software-graphics/howto-rip-cds.html

If you have a windows computer then you can use Windows Media Player:
    http://www.dummies.com/computers/operating-systems/windows-10/how-to-rip-cds-in-windows-10/

    Hope this helps you out.

    I have about 77000 MP3s..

Many of them came from my own physical CD collection. Use Winamp, WMP, or any other number of applications to rip the CD into MP3 format. Store on phone or flash drive, take them with you wherever you go.

x2 on Spotify. Wife and I both use Spotify with just one subscription. You can create playlists and then make them available offline so that one user (usually me) listens to the lists that are offline and the other (usually wife) can listen to whatever.

There's lots of software out there that will "rip" your CDs into discrete MP3 files. You can then just drop those files into iTunes and sync them to your iPhone or iPod. If you don't want to hassle with the ripping yourself, which can take a long time, there are numerous ripping services out there that will take your CDs and return you a thumb-drive.

Once you have your mp3s in iTunes you can then create play lists, sort them by genre, attach album art, etc.

Will your truck radio play MP3's on CD? I don't know which years have which capabilities. If your stereo will handle MP3's, you can rip all of your audio CD's to MP3's and put them on a data CD to play on your stereo. You can get about 150 songs on a CD that way. A quick Google search will tell you how to rip CD's on whatever operating system you're using.

I think for ~$15/month you can have a family subscription so everyone can stream simultaneously. I need to research their music selection, because some of what I listen to is...weird to the mainstream I guess. Also need to convince the wife to cancel her XM.

It's pretty killer. You can do a 30 day free trial as well to check out the selection. I listen to a lot of obscure music as well and it's done relatively well for me. I tried apple music... the interface just blows by comparison.

Yep, I use iTunes. Put in the CD, iTunes will ask if you want to rip the CD. Click yes and it spins a minute while it copies the tracks. Now I have a huge MP3 collection. Bought a 64 GB mini USB drive and put it all on there. Plug it into the USB port at the bottom of the dash and you're ready to go.

Wow, you can really buy the entire album for a couple bucks? Just looked up a Volbeat album and it's $1.56. It's $7.99 on Amazon. What's the catch? haha.

Nothing really, we've used it for years. You have to deposit and add money to your account in order to purchase music. On your statement it shows up as a transaction from Czech lol which my bank makes me verify every time lol.

The other cool thing is it keeps your entire purchase and download history so if you ever need to access your music again or if you get a new device that you want it all on, you just simply log on through that device and download it all again.

I changed a couple things in your post, but this is what I do too. Throw it on my ipod and hook up to the USB jack in the truck. It's the easiest way IMO, and the only thing I still use Apple for.

One of the cool things about Spotify is you can listen with or without data on your phone and the selections switch up.

You can also listen to your favorite artists playlists

The downside to iTunes is that you have to have all of your music downloaded to the computer to be able to transfer it. In my case I HAD so much that my computer hard drive couldn't handle it all. Don't get me wrong..iTunes rocks, and is very simple to use, but when you lose your purchased music it's gone unless it's backed up. I personally love Spotify because I get to listen to music I didn't know existed....but that's just my preference. I have iTunes, pandora, spotify, and XM radio.

I've never tried putting them on a thumb drive and plugging them into the truck though, I'll have to see how I like that. I always just import them to itunes and put them on the ipod.

So I am checking out Spotify but have a question. If I pay for premium, I can be hooked up to my wifi and download a playlist or whatever, then listen off line (either on airplane mode, data off, or in an area with no cell service) and still listen to that playlist as long as I have the subscription?

EDIT: Found my answer in their FAQ

So, on the iPhone I have all of my music on iTunes. How can I put this somewhere else (clears up hard drive space) while still being able to DL from iTunes and syncing to my iPhone?

The Tundra will play them right off the drive. A max of 255 tunes per folder, but something like a max of 999 folders, or some ridiculous number like that. I have this little 4GB drive https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004BLIQDC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Stays plugged in all the time. Set the unit to play random folder and it skips all around.
