What? I am gaining the cooler and it's benefits.

You are right, if my thermostat failed, I'd pull it as I have no need to "warm up" as my engine never gets cool.

What part of I live in Az where it never gets below 50 do you not understand?

In reality the last 5+ years it has not gotten much under 70. Currently, it is 109 which is cooler than it has been in over 2 weeks.

Yesterday after sitting for 12 hours 110 ambient. As cool as it's going to get.

Startup after not moving for 12 hours 110 ambient.jpg

Immediately after startup after sitting for 5 hours 109 ambient.

    startup after sitting 5 hours 109 ambient.jpg

15 minutes into drive home on the street 109 ambient.

You absolutely right. Leave the pin in.

The system has been tested by Toyota in all of the most extreme conditions hot and cold and it works very well. Good on you to see that you have discovered a benefit that Toyota somehow missed.

BTW 70F is considered a cold start in relation to operating temperatures.

Toyota designs their vehicle to work in a huge swath of variables. The temperature gauge(s) for example sit in the middle for over 30 degrees. For the coolant from about 160 to at least 208 (that's as hot as my truck has gotten).

The transmission gauge starts at 1/4 at 121 and is in the middle up to 207 (again as low and as high as mine has gotten) They do that to prevent people freaking out.

Same goes for the gas gauge. In more than 25 Toyotas I have had since 1978 I have never had one that did not say it was empty when it had at least 2 gallons.

They are conservative to be able to meet a wide swath of situations and environments.

I think it’s a reasonable thing to ask. Literally takes 1 minute.
I will be keeping track of how that value changes over time. I plan on doing drain-and-fills every 30k miles to keep the fluid fresh.

They can hook up their techstream and give you the value but probably going to charge you. Alot of dealers will do rotations for free as an opportunity to check the brakes hoping for a sale.

Might be worth buying a small used laptop. You don't need anything fancy to run techstream. I would use the obd interface from obdll365.com. It's the same one used by OVT and works well. I have the Minivci as well and its hit and miss on some of the data stream.

They didn't do the rotation at the 25K mile service.... you know, the service that is nothing but a rotation and fluid check. Pissed me off pretty bad. I may reach out, see if they will techstream it for me as penance.

This is true. My service advisor is always awesome, so he might be able to talk the tech into it.

My point is simple. People are selling an opinion as to what is and what is not necessary. If someone wants to add a cooler, tires, higher octane gas than needed it all an opinion and NOT something needed to avoid some sort of problem or issue. Just trying to keep at least this thread real and gave MY opinion just like all the OTHER NEW members who are going by heresay. If I am wrong please show me facts rather than just comment.

Excess heat is the enemy of all mechanical things. Reducing heat is good.

What is the approximate length of the rubber lines that connect the steel lines to the cooler?

I never measured but the aftermarket cool that I bought included the rubber line and was enough to complete the job. A guess would be around 5'.

I get in Canada you have cold. Arizona is not Canada.

You need to keep temps up. I need to keep them down.

Right up until you have an unrelated issue with your trans and take it in to have Toyota fix it and they say, "Sorry Sir, that cooler you added changed the way Toyota intended the transmission to function, We're sorry the repair cost will NOT be covered under your warranty, have a nice day."

I think we’ll have to just wait until one of us actually has a transmission failure. If Toyota is as good as most think that may never happen. (Since they were removed in 2019 you’d think we’d have someone chime in on their failure by now?)Then we’ll have to see if the failure is on a truck with the added cooler. Finally, we’ll have to see if it’s denied due to the added cooler and reasons for denial. So this may take awhile…

    All good points.

A huge contrast to all the Ford/Chevy/RAM owners who expect a transmission overhaul around 150k miles. Look at any truck thread in other forums, it's considered totally normal. "No problems, had the transmission rebuilt at 140k miles. Still going strong! Would buy again." When you post a comment the reply is always "Well you don't tow anything, go back to the mall." I'll bet the usage profile for Tundra owners is pretty much identical to the owners of 1/2 ton trucks of other brands. HD trucks probably get worked harder.

Sounds like you are saying your opinion is fact ? Keep it real by providing facts to prove the cooler is not necessary.

Well if you silly enough to leave the cooler in when you have a warranty issue your rolling the dice on how the dealer will respond. I can have mine out in less than 30min.

There's no way I'd remove my cooler, even for the unlikely 'warranty issues.'

Most are not going g to be denied warranty because they added the cooler but if your paranoid removing can be done pretty quick.

My 2013 is well out of warranty so that is not a concern and I installed 100% OEM parts so they won't know it's not OEM.

I already asked him that question and his response was I needed to provide documentation that his opinion is incorrect. His opinion is based on the fact he’s owned several trucks. I’m not sure why one would come on a forum discussion where people elect to install a part, that they are paying for with their own money, and share their results, only to be told that purchase/part is unnecessary.

It would be a pretty hard sell for a manufacturer to claim that a tranny cooler aided in a failure. Crappy install, sure. But not an install using top shelf components.
