Home is about 350 miles west. We're only about 20 miles out of Tulsa so my uncle came and rescued us. His tow guy is taking the car to his dealership so they can look at it first thing tomorrow.

Can you flag someone down and carjack them? I don't think it's illegal anymore.

I think it depends on the state/city you are in, but I like how you are thinking!

100% agree. I'm rural and rural CO is generally good folk. I'm not too far from retirement. Could see myself fading away in Saratoga, I really like it there for flyfishing and the people. That's my speed.

Saratoga is pretty. River in town floods some, so make sure you're out of reach on that. Just got fiber to the home installed there in the last year or two as well, so good for anything online you might enjoy.

I haven't been through there for a year or so. Quick question if you know... is Mike still healthy and well at Hack's Tackle? Miss BSssing with him and need to get over there.

Unfortunately I don't know. I only ever got to go to Saratoga for work stuff, so never got to go in the tackle shop. Haven't been through Saratoga for about 3 years now, either.

I know your a welder, but I’m not a big fan of the flappys. I’m sure they have their special uses, but my cousin taught me the benefits of using a pad with the sanding discs. I’m not a great metal worker and I know you can get carried away with the flaps pretty easy if your not paying attention

    Hey, Guys!

Reassembling the dash today and… leftover parts :angrygirl:

not really but I did hit a snag. I took a bunch of pics at each step of disassembly but, apparently, I missed something. Here’s my airbag, reconnected the wiring harness… only one slot. I don’t recall seeing any reason to take a pic before I disconnected; I only recall it was obvious = one connection point. Yet now I see two to connect. What does the black with white connector connect to-?

    That's a hell of a score!

You do need to be careful. They have a specific application, which isn't regular grinding. I use them to round corners and take grind marks out. A light touch is certainly best.

Figured it out. It connects to the radio surround (air bag on/off).

Edit: I was wrong; this one connects to the glove compartment lamp. A different twos in connects to the airbag key-turn switch at the back of the center stereo surround panel.

Oh, I know I'm lining their pockets with the downtime I'm saving them. OT is about to skyrocket here. Money grab will be intense for a year or so.

Starter home used to be less. Now it's way up thar to quote @Glock 40

This is the general idea. Potential rent, or mother-in-law suite. Retirement account is hovering at 25k so far. Not bad for a 23 year old.

The bubble will pop, and I want to be prepared for land/house grab free-for-all.

Not against the idea of a room mate, but last thing I need is to rent a room to a man named Bates.
I think that I'll be able to plan expenditures to be extremely livable on 40 hour week. Stepping down from insane hours to a home life should be easy later on. Here's hoping.
    :fingerscrossed:

I'm not even planning on it existing when I retire.

New question: can any of you tell me the proper torque for the steering wheel nut (splined attachment point to steering column)? A thorough search of this forum yielded nothing except a guy who said he uses an impact on his, and the wider web, which wants to tell me everything except torque specs for a 1st Gen….

With a VW, you can get the EPC/CEL combo (with limp mode) for a few reasons varying from side-of-road fixable to fully forked.
For future reference, first thing to try is to cycle the key. Often, the EPC will drop off and you'll be able to keep going.
You can also try unplugging the MAF. The CEL will certainly stay on, but if you have a metering problem, it'll keep running and driving.

Checking the TB blade is clean is a great place to start, but usually won't rear its head whilst in motion. If the MAF gets wet while driving, it'll put you on the side of the road in a hurry with the EPC/CEL combo. One of my cars was supercharged for a time and it put the MAF in harm's way. I went through several intake revisions before I could drive the GD thing in the rain. (I eventually ditched the SC for a turbo, but that's a different tragedy.)

    Hoping for a simple fix.

Key cycle did nothing. I didn't think about the MAF trick. I'm thinking it's throttle related somehow, maybe tps. You can stab the pedal and let off real quick and it does nothing. Leaving it floored for a second or two it will stumble and climb. Put it in gear and it just stumbles and can barely do 30. We'll find out today what it is.

    Overall I'd rate fathers day '21 a solid 2/10.

I just hollered at the service manager. He said he's getting misfire codes and asked if plugs and wires had ever been done. I'm pretty sure they haven't. Are VWs sensitive to those?

I just found out the dealership I work at doesn't recognize any holiday that falls on a Sunday.
For example, this coming July 4th. I get to work on Monday (at regular rate) because the holiday falls on Sunday and the dealership is closed on Sunday.

Bunch of unpatriotic, narcissistic, greedy cunts.

VWs eat ignition coils on every engine before the MQB platform.
They managed to get the MQB coils pretty close to right.

Pretty much sums up what we talked about last week. No reason to be loyal to a company any longer. We have horrible turnover at our plant and can't hire anyone. Moral is low. They initially said we were going to run production Sunday but finally changed their minds. I'm guessing they got word folks were going to mutiny. Amazon is opening two locations here next year and we're predicting a mass exodus.

From what I've heard, Amazon isn't a great company to work for...if you work in a warehouse.
Totally hearsay, but I've heard it several times.
