Still about a year away, but it works. I get to see that Raptor R they’re working on. V8 vroom vrooms will get more truck sluts.

Depends how often that mouth expels loud short bursts of frustration and anger

This is what I think of when people say things like "the Pentastar is a reliable engine".

That's a funny meme....The Pentastar is like a modern day small block Chevy. Over 10 million produced so far. Yes it has had it's problems, just like the chevy did.

High production numbers are not indicative of quality.

For the time this was really high production numbers.

Huh, that pinto motor was a good one. It's the rest of the car that sucked. Hell a version of it was still in production in the Ranger years later and in some other cars. I remember the Pinto motor was the hot ticket for sand rails back in the day. My buddy in high school had a Pinto and we beat the piss out of it, never let us down. Used a Taco Bell plastic tray to patch the massive at least 1 foot by 1 foot hole in the passenger floor board. Rivoted it in and that patch lasted for years. We were just lucky we were never rear ended. ;)

This is always so funny to me. Don’t get me wrong I’d trust an older Toyota before I’d trust an older fca product. HOWEVER do you think on the Jeep forum they’re saying “oh I’d never buy that ancient design with thousands of dollars in air injection pumps and thousands of dollars in cam tower leaks and thousands of dollars in starter replacement, those tundras are piles of trash” that would be pretty stupid right?

They are busy complaining about their pentastars chewing up camshafts, cracking heads, and oil pumps failing. We get bored with our trucks not breaking so we complain about those that do.

This is a joke. Do not take it seriously.

Been watching this channel for quite a while and he has been up front about his Jeep maintenance and any issues. Pretty sure his Jeep is over 200K miles now. Anyway for the most part his Jeep has been pretty darn reliable....but he takes care of it since it's his home. Or was solely his home for over 4 years until he bought a Winnebago Revel for a base camp

In truth, people who've come from those places say they caught flak for considering the Tundra because it's old and thirsty. The number of people on this forum who actually experience the issues you list is a small percentage of the population. Lots have trouble free vehicles and so we complain about the little things, or poke fun at other brands. The percentage of people on the other forums with issues seems to be higher. This gives the appearance of more issues, and statistically they do have more issues. Not enough that the odds are you are going to get a lemon if you buy one, though.

The pentastar has had the failures I mentioned, but I know there are plenty who don't have issues too. Any modern vehicle is leaps and bounds ahead of older stuff in reliability. The advantage the old stuff had was that anybody could work on it and keep it running.

I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy where you mention an fca product and the immediate thought is of tow trucks. If you compare the ratio of failure between the 5.7 and the pentastar I would bet it’s fairly similar. The problem the Chrysler engine has is that they have millions upon millions more of them on the road so any failure is going to be exaggerated.

So with probably what? 1.5-1.7 million Toyota 5.7 liters produced? I couldn't find it....an over 10 million Pentastars produced. Wonder which one had more issues? That's quite a difference in production numbers. My money is still on the 5.7 though but I am definitely biased. But it's possible with that difference in production numbers that it could be close

I agree that they are exaggerated for the sake of the joke on a regular basis. So is the fuel economy of the Tundra. I have owned several Dodge/Chrysler/now FCA products, and I liked them. I don't think of a tow truck as soon as they are mentioned, but you are on a site for Toyota enthusiasts asking about something that isn't Toyota. You're going to get some jokes. I've been honest with my experiences in this thread, and my recommendations. I even recommended a Renegade. I liked that thing. It was fun.

    Here's something you'll like about the 3.6 Pentastar https://www.thedrive.com/news/34672...s-chrysler-pentastar-v6-is-after-626000-miles

    From the link above.
    upload_2021-6-20_16-15-30.jpg

There are saying there are 10 million pentastars is a bit misleading, as that label is attached to 3 different engines. I imagine the production numbers of the 3.6 is on par with the 5.7 iForce if for no other reason than the fact that the 5.7 has been around much longer and has had about 150K produced each year. We have a few really high mileage 5.7 owners on here too. Personally, a high mileage V8 is more surprising to me than a high mileage 4 or 6 cylinder. Generally, the more moving parts, the more points of failure, the higher the failure rate.

I think proper maintenance is a MUCH bigger factor in longevity and lack of issues than actual engine type in most cases.

Sorry man but I won’t talk you out of it. I love Jeep’s and I really do like the gladiators. As stated I think it’s a rubicon package or you’ll need a lift and tires off the bat to make it look “ right”. I almost did it myself recently but I can’t give up the room in the tundra over the gladiator. Life is short , get what will make you happy.

If you like the Gladiator and it's not your primary vehicle, purely a weekend/road trip toy, buy one. The only real thing to watch out for on it is the departure angle out back. It's got some serious overhang back there.

When you get it we expect pics, reviews, impressions, and all the details!

So then do we get to count the iForce V8s in the toyota numbers? Pretty sure they will surpass the Pentastar with 21-22 years of production.

Dealer near me wants 45k for a gladiator.

ive daily driven a jeep before. I couldn’t ever pay 45k for a stock jeep. I would much rather have the new nissan frontier if i needed a smaller truck than the jeep. Easy decision.

Not defensive man just pointing out facts. So when someone says man there’s not enough space compared to the tundra, I take that under advisement, there’s less towing capacity, I take it under advisement, there’s too little headroom, I take it under advisement. But simply stating oh it’s fca it’ll burst into flames and sell your soul to the devil while giving you genital warts… I call bs

I'd have bought one if it fit better or had a v8 or turbo 6, the roll bar is basically hitting me in the head, I wish they would have built it on the 1500 platform. I love jeeps my last one went over 200k. I owned since new and drove it like an idiot. But that had the 4.0. The diesel is a nice option but doesn't make sense for me right now I'd rather have the 6.4. I don't trust the emissions on any new diesel.

I sat in one the other day and fit well, but I’m only 6ft with my shoes on. I would like a little more power as well. And with a new warranty the diesel is kind of compelling especially at 28 mpg hwy with many people saying that’s underrated. But then I’d kill that with 37’s anyway lol

You already have a Tundra, so a hit to 28 MPG is still going to be an improvement!

Then I’d be all for it, I still may end up with one even with those couple of issues for me. My wife loves them. And even if it wasn’t right for you, then like you know in a couple of years probably trade it in for a few grand less than the original cost
