That was an example, very similar to lawn care, pest control, mobile detailing, etc. Lots of 1/2 tons used as daily tow rigs. Plus that you can't find a damn 3/4 ton that will stay out of the shop long enough to keep you in business.

Lucky trailer owner here. Also have my hitch cargo racks, hitch bed extender, headache rack and rear rack. Short bed, no problem. Love me some backseat action on the sofa!

It’s Toyota doing what Toyota does. In all reality companies can’t do too much to “stand out” these days. They’re staying true to their designs, which the majority of us enjoy. The good thing is Toyota will only make improvements to it. I’m stoked and contemplating trading my 2020 pro.

All the people complaining about the new gen truck being ugly and only having a V6 will be also complaining in 9 months when there is no dealer inventory for them to buy one

Like I said, I'll wait to see the specs, but What do you mean destroy?

Get the same range, not likely because it won't get the same mileage. Most likely will have a much smaller fuel tank because if they cut 14 or 15 gallons out of the fuel tank, they'll save 150lbs - 200lbs in payload between fuel weight and additional materials.

The 2022 Tundra will likely get a 3.nothing rear axle to improve fuel mileage, just like the domestics, so it won't pull as well. People can try and tell me about their Powerboosted, Duramaxed, Hemi-ied up numbers all day long, their rear axle ratio and weight ratings are inferior and so are their abilities to pull, period. I've owned them, used them, and traveled next to and past them on the highway, they aren't getting it done.

Even 1/2 ton trucks are big, heavy, and as aerodynmaically designed as a barn door. If they aren't heavy, they're a Ford. And I'm just not comfortable putting 7 or 8k lbs behind a 4,500lb truck on a 12% down grade on a wet road, and neither should most.

Those turbos will be a churnin and burnin. You won't be getting the 9-11 mpgs when towing through the mountains that I get now, my guess is closer to 6-7 mpgs with a 24 gallon tank. Be ready to fill up every 100 miles when towing.

I have seen no surprises in this new Tundra's exterior. Going on history, it's logical that the specs will trend toward fuel economy for mall crawlers more so than workhorses. That's fine, Toyota should make what they think is best for their business. If I wanted a grocery getter, it'd be an AT4 or F150 Limited. There are clearly more that want this than what I would like, and that's ok, the world doesn't have to conform to me.

But I'm curious, will you still say "destroy the 5.7 on towing capability" when it has a significantly smaller fuel tank, lighter weight, lower range, lesser rear axle weight rating and rear gear ratio just because it ha higher HP and Torque? Because if so, you do not have a very good understanding of towing.

BTW I'm hoping Im wrong. If you go back 5 or 6 months in this thread my prediction was that we'd see a lot of AT4 exterior design cues, we definitely do. We will see a lot of interior cues from the RAM, we definitely will. And, Toyota will no longer build a truck for guys like me. Again, hope that I'm wrong, but so far...

I love all the people complaining about it even though we know nothing more than what it looks like. All speculation that the v6 won't be reliable of that it's not going to be that good or the interior is going to be ugly etc. Why don't you wait until we know something about it or actually get to see it and drive it before we get our panties in a wad.

Taco Grande - LOVE that nickname!

I like the look, I see it as an improvement. I have an F150 on order and I'm a step closer to cancelling it BUT I will NOT join any crazy rush for this truck that will keep prices at or above MSRP so the jury is still out and might be for a while. The next crucial piece of information is confirming the strong rumor of a 6.5 foot bed on a CC. To me that's more important than the engine choices and one of the things that kept the Tundra off my list.

I'm kind of letting fate decide - if any hiccups happen with my F150 order, that could be a sign. I can hang on longer if I have to, my 2015 Ram EcoDiesel is still a great truck and will hold me over if necessary.

As for the debate on the engines, here is how I see it: Same debate on the Ford enthusiast's site I'm on. Between them and TFL testing, the 3.5L Ecoboost beats the 5.0L V8 not so much by fuel economy but certainly by performance. The 5.0L has to downshift a couple of gears and wind up pretty high when pulling a moderate load up the hills where the EcoBoost acts like a bored diesel engine with the same load. However, you're looking at a lot more complexity with a TTV6. Hopefully Toyota gets it right from the get go. As for fuel economy of the TTV6, it's been said many times with EcoBoost that you get EITHER Eco or Boost but not both. Everyone likes the sound of the 5.0L MUCH better and Ford made things worse by piping in fake engine noises in a failed attempt to appease that crowd.

I was surprised by the poor crash test results of the current Tundra Crewmax and I'm hoping they've addressed that with this release.

But again I never follow a frenzied crowd into any sales office so it might be a while for me since dealers are on an MSRP high lately and supply lines, while getting better, are not back yet. Maybe if things FULLY return to normal quickly I can grab one.

All vehicle mfg are limited buy government crap, the only reason Toyota doesn’t compete in the hd market is because they don’t think it would be profitable for them.

That would be even more disappointing. The Land Cruiser is closer to a 4runner than a Sequoia, with respect to interior dimension. It also looks like the 2022 LC has those flip down 3rd row, which are useless. Can't fit a car seat, can't fit an adult. There's a small sample of 8 year olds that might fit back there, if they don't mind their knees in their chest.

It would be the end of the Sequoia as a Tahoe alternative

    Here's the deal -

    - LC300 will not be offered in North America at this time
    - New Sequoia will mimic the LC300 for offroad goodies like Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select, as well as have 2WD, full-time 4H and 4LO. The object is to combine the LC and Sequoia demographics at a reasonable cost, Toyota wants more of the jumbo SUV market, they don't want to price themselves out of it. It will be based on the Tundra platform like the current gen but will be more offroad capable. Maybe they'll even get a rear locker for the IRS.
    - New Lexus LX*** will be an LC300 clone for the luxury crowd.

So, for example, all of the people that yearned for an affordable Land Cruiser, Toyota says "Hey, look at the new Sequoia!! It combines the larger size of the Sequoia and has offroad capability like the Land Cruiser!!"

For those that still want the actual Land Cruiser built in Japan, and don't mind the $$$$$$$, Toyota has them covered with the new LX***.

That's the beauty of this TNGA-F platform, scalable galore, and can share powertrains between LC300/LX/Tundra/Sequoia. Toyota is aiming to get a larger share of the jumbo SUV market than the ~20k units per year they've been selling with the LC200 and 2G Sequoia.

Seems a good strategy. Bust out a Sequoia SR5 that is priced low, say $50k. Has the Tundra TTV6, 2WD/full-time 4H/4LO, 8-spd auto, cloth seats, power driver seat. Optional Crawl Control and MTS. Optional leather and power passenger seat, same as the 2G Sequoia. Combines features from the LC200 and the 2G Sequoia SR5.

Then a Limited trim with optional TTV6 hybrid, 10-spd auto standard, heated leather, power passenger seat and third row, Crawl Control and MTS standard. Still has a much lower price than the LC200.

Then a Platinum trim with air suspension, a bit more luxury, standard TTV6 hybrid, 10 spd auto, MTS and Crawl Control. Prolly getting close to $70k.

Then a Pro trim for the suspension and maybe front and rear lockers. Triple locked maybe since all Sequoia trims will have the Torsen center differential standard same as they have now. I sure hope it will, seems to me it's a no-brainer.

That's my speculation and also gleaning some things from David Chao, who seems to be able to delve a bit into Toyota's secretive structure.

I'm new to the Sequoia scene but shopping for the 2019 I noticed right away Toyota tried to enhance the Tundra platform by adding the Torsen full-time 4HI and IRS. So I think they will enhance the next gen Sequoia also. The Torsen system is awesome, very durable, been in 4Runners and LC's for many years and many miles.

Why are you surprised? It's a 2007 design. It wasn't designed for the ever increasing standards that vehicles are measured to currently.

I don't want to derail the thread but lumber is down 40% off it's peak. I also keep tabs on ammo using ammoseek.com. I plug in the same 3 filters each time and new 9mm brass cased ammo peaked at 80 cents a round. That's now down to 38.9 cents a round. The chip factory that had the fire went back online 7 weeks ago (but not at full capacity) and certainly wasn't the only supplier. Good news doesn't sell and things that happen slowly are uninteresting to most so not many people are seeing the improvements yet.

Yes I'll wait to see the final product before drawing any conclusions. And yes, I will also speculate. These things are not contradictory.

Mods, can we get a poll on the 'looks' of the 22?
    Based on looks alone.....
Love it / hate it / like it / don't like
    Will buy / won't buy
Current Tundra owner / not Tundra owner
    Or something like that.

I like the V8 as much as anyone, and having been harping on a 6.2 Iforce wish list.

but I would say this, if the power numbers are what they look to be, and its paired with a 10-speed, its going to leave the 5.7 in the dust as far as pulling power and gearing. They can stay right in the heart of the powerband with that many gears, I saw some of this with my ZF8, they keep you right in the meat since they are not as gapped between gears, forget about the 4.30 in the rear, thats great and all but you have to look at the final ratio. I thought My ram was damn near shorter in 2nd with a 3.92 rear then my tundra is is 1st...

Now, that is IF toyota does not tune it like the tacoma and the trans in that truck, whomever did that should be shot and drown in a river. I really really doubt that will happen though, Yota knows thing is going to have to PULL especially it looks like its going slightly north of 12K tow rating...

agreed, 100%. its going to dust it. That said it will still sound like shit and I still want a 6.2 V8. well just because that would be badass

that said, I will drive the new 2022 platinum for a test and see what it has before I go GMC 6.2 V8. Im just not sure I will like the tuning, the sound, or just not having a V8 because yes, Im kinda a dinosaur and want one. But Im getting more open to seeing what this thing has.

    hell, maybe I'll keep BOTH!!!

Correct, but with fuel it only has to be a perceived issue. The pipeline thing that went down should not have had nationwide impact. That was irresponsible, inflammatory, and sensationalized reporting that caused needless panic.

Now there's an idea. I should go test drive one and have some fun. They don't have to know that I'm not going to buy it.
