Yeah not talking specifically about the grill or the front. That has been Toyotas direction for a while now. The hood things. The front pillar blacked out. The integrated fender flairs. The headlights. The three lights on the upper grill. The obnoxiously huge "TRD Pro" stamped in the tailgate. The swoop down in the sheet metal on the rear of the front fender. Etc,..etc,...this truck looks like a mut....a combination of Toyota and all the other trucks into one.

I'm interested in all of the info on the new truck, but I like window shopping cars as much as women reportedly like buying shoes. It's fun to see what there is.

It reminds me of a Raptor. I’m due for another truck in 2030 so we’ll see.

Tough crowd, if the Tundra gets the new infotainment set up that's going in the Lexus, it's going to be awesome!.

A lot of haters, but hey you don't have to buy it:D I think the front end is aggressive and badass. I haven't seen the rear bumper, but hope Toyota integrated a step or some kind of hidden swing step.

    I'm digging it:muscleflexing:

Wouldn’t the Trd pro tailgate make it easier to turn a sr5 into 1? Got to be cheaper than a bed.

Yes, but if you are truly towing large or heavy loads, the current 5.7 will probably last longer than some high output twin turbo v6 with an added 25 ponies. So how does it really tow better? Over two years ownership going to the lake 12 times a year, maybe so. But if you consider towing say a tractor everyday to various job sites I believe the NA v8 would come out on top overall.

These have been around on various vehicles for years, yes. Would you rather they kept a non functioning hood scoop? They took constant complaints for that and went a different route to break up a large sheet of metal. If the deleted the scoop and also didn't do these to break it up the internet would be ablaze with "It's so plane, they didn't even try, boring...." type of stuff.

Not a fan of that myself, but hopefully its easy to remove vinyl. As far as where it comes from, the floating roof/different color roof isn't new to Toyota. Look at an FJ Cruiser.

They had to change the shape some how. It's not a "C" like Ford, or the ford rip offs from GMC. Not my favorite design, but it fits with the aggressive tone they seem to have been after.

100% agree that this was a bad move, but they would have been flamed if they just did stamped bed sides again. Having a unique tailgate will probably be cheaper than having a completely separate bed to set aside the Pro. Bean counters always win.

See the hood explanation. Not a ton you can do to change things up and still stay in regs for the bureaucracy.

You wanna know what happens when a completely new and 100% original design is presented?

Ah, I didn't see the mindset you were in. I took your previous statement as a plain declaration "More power is useless", not as regarding a V6. I was in the mindset of "Would you rather have 380 HP to tow a 5K lbs trailer or 450 HP?"

All the drama. Bottomline the Taco Grande is a potpourri of other trucks. Or just a Taco Grande. The GM looking plastics bits on the hood near the bottom of A pillars is definitely a copy and paste design. Max stamp in place of Vortex. :sadviolin:

It actually says TRD Pro not Max. Ram has them. Ford has them. Chevy has them. I agree, Toyota is late to the party with them, but I don't have a better solution for breaking up the hood panel. Maybe they will only be on the Pro? Toyota does like to give the Pros cosmetic touches that other trims don't get to have.

I agree with the Taco Grande sentiment, because I see way more Taco/4runner than non toyota influences, personally. I just don't necessarily think it's a bad thing.

Not a bad thing, just a Taco Grande. Let’s all hope Toyota increased towing, payload capacity, frame rigidity, and mpg. Without decreasing reliability.

if your towing a tractor to a job site everyday, even a relatively small tractor you shouldn’t be in a half ton.

    Maybe
Just one problem, the big 3 are being limited by big government and have to push crap out the door because of it. Results in leaving me with less than desirable options.

I think the new design looks great. Never been a huge fan of the large grills but it is what it is. Looks are pretty far down the list on importance for a large truck to me, although I do think Toyota makes the best looking truck and this one continues that trend. I’m more worried about the longevity, reliability and stats on a twin turbo v6. But I also don’t want to own another truck that gets 17mpg on the highway. But knowing Toyota it shouldn’t be much of a concern. I really hope they have some lower trim options that don’t include some of the higher end technology I don’t need for cost savings.

I have been in a 2007 tacoma since 2009 and I’m ready to upgrade to a tundra. I most likely will own a 2022 or 23.

I showed the new pictures to my wife. "It looks aggressive, I like it, it looks like a bull dog". I showed her the close up of the windshield and said it has a 12 inch screen. She looked at and said that is not 12 inches. I told her they measure it diagonally. "Sounds like something a man would come up with".

    This is my concern.

Towing a boat and sea doos to and from the Lake a few times a year is one part of my use of this truck, but I also tow a TT from east coast to the west 3-4 times a year, frequently doing 700-1100 miles in a day. While there may not be a lot of us that use our Tundras this way, there are enough that we know the current setup is up to the challenge. Can't imagine a TTV6 performs as well as the 5.7, or reduced gear ratio holds up to the current gearing. I'll wait for the specs and real world feedback, not TFL, Tim Esterdahl, or any other online mass reviewers. I'll wait for real owners that use their trucks to tell me what is up with this new truck and pass final judgement.

Odds are this new TTV6 will destroy the 5.7 on towing capability. Especially anything above sea level.

I'm honestly kind of excited to see who the first member to get the 2022 will be. You know they're gonna be absolutely swamped with questions, requests, and suggestions.

They should win a prize or something. Free washes by @War Machine for a year with interior details by @Ckatz53? :boink: I mean, I could wash it for them, but I just put quarters in the machine and spray it down, so...

If you’re doing that kind of towing every day, you should probably not be using a 1/2 ton regardless.
