Looks Pretty solidly "TOYOTA" to me...... I posted this a while back in this thread. Can you really say that the Tundra shot (first pic) doesn't look like it fits with all these other Toyotas? They are just bringing the Tundra in line with their other designs. They don't all look the same, but they all definitely look related to each other.

How many of you buy a vehicle, especially a truck that is supposed to be utilitarian in nature, based on cosmetics? I’m genuinely curious because I don’t give a high priority to looks where trucks are concerned. I thought my 2007 Tundra was fugly when I bought it and still think it’s fugly. I don’t think the refresh looks much better.

But it’s a truck and I buy trucks based on capability, reliability, power, etc. In 2007 when I bought mine; the Tundra, despite its hideous looks, was the best 1/2 ton truck money could buy. So I bought it, even though it was and remains ugly.

Looks are subjective though, and if you’re buying art to hang on your wall then cosmetics and your feelings are the most important consideration (outside of investment grade art). We’re not talking about art here though. We’re talking about a tool.

I was thinking more the shape is identical to the 4R and like a larger version of what the Taco has.

Sorry you don't like trucks that need clearance lights because they're more than 80" wide.

I fail to understand your argument, why is it somehow wrong to want beauty, and brawn? For the prices we pay for these trucks, I don't think that's asking for too much.

You could make the same argument about food. It's just fuel for the body, who cares about taste.
Or drinks - why consume anything but water. Or music. Or women. Or clothes...and so on.

We are unique beings who like/dislike different things. I respect that you view your truck as a tool, and don't care too much about the exterior styling. But not everybody feels that way.

Yeah but this Tundra is not 80" wide they did it for the look only. Ford and Ram did it because they had to to meet the DOT requirements its not like all Ram and Fords have it only the Raptor and TRX. I could be wrong though it could be 80" wide but it doesn't appear like it is in the pictures

Hmmm….. not necessarily trying to argue. Trying to understand. Since I’m not a cosmetics first kind of guy for trucks, I’m trying to understand the mindset of those who might prioritize that.

It could be just cosmetic on the TRD Pro's as that is a popular mod. We have not seen standard trims yet.

I think it'll look good in person, but gone are the days of easy bumper swaps etc. Unless that lower bumper cap area comes off with half of the grille, i think the only way to add armor would be similar to the 4runners where you have to chop the bumper. It fits the rest of Toyota's design language, but like most of their models i think they look bad initially but then it grows on me. Still think the 3rd gen is way sharper looking though. Happy the value of mine won't be going down!

Is there something you are passionate about - or just really like - that people in your circle - family, friends, co-workers - don't share the same passion for. That's probably the best way to understand it.

With respect as well - I'm not trying to argue either.

Absolutely, it’s just that where opinions on subjective merits are concerned I usually make an effort to not base an argument for or against something based on a subjective quality alone. Now if quality, functionality, and objective measurable characteristics are equal then cosmetics might be a factor to base a decision on.

They "Wanted" to get the same reaction that the Raptor gets... When you see those lights, you KNOW it's a Raptor... Or it's a copy. And in regards to the 80"... the truck is not 80".

Thanks, do not know that. But our trucks are not over 80"

    Screenshot_20210618-130544.jpg

Just because the print "Toyota" on the grill doesn't make it unique. They have been doing that for 50years. And the look of the lineup needs work, with the Tundra being last to the party, you would think it would stand out an little more.:I personally don't like any of those pics in the lineup... Especially the Taco.

Don't be sorry, I was not aware of the 80" mandate because our trucks are not over 80". And I Love my 17'
..and the 4runner. Maybe I just can't stand the Craptor (and those amber lights) so much it's clouding my love for the newer yotas.

    Not "so much Negativity"
Hoping to see our brand take some risks to be more than just catching up with everyone else.

And we haven't really looked this thing in person, so all remains to be seen...

If Car and Driver is correct (50/50 odds) then it might not be a major issue price wise either.

How can you say the 2022 trd pro isnt 80" and then show measurements that the 2021 (previous gen) is 79.5"? It's a completely different truck.

No one knows the width of the new TRD pro, and the 2021 width is irrelevant.

In the current market with cars either unavailable due to chip shortages from other manufacturers, or demand resulting in cars selling before they hit the lot (Toyota), there will be no good deals this coming year. At least if I had to guess. Wouldn’t be surprised to see some unscrupulous dealers mark up new Tundras over MSRP.

Definitely not unique, as it exist in the rest of their line, but it's not surprising that they've stuck with the design theme. Especially because the majority of the feedback on the looks of the 4Runner and Taco (the two I think are most similar to the new Tundra) has been positive.

Plus the 2021 is 79.9” wide already, so if width increases a mere .2” it needs those marker lights.

Per my buddy who owns a Ford and Toyota store, no real quantities of tundras will be available until this time next year, and Toyota is going to be pushing hard for zero incentives and high APR.

Hmmmm. I wonder why our trucks are 79.9" and not 80.1"... I'm thinking.... thinking... trying to sleuth it out... Man, I just can't think of the reason why a company would make something that goes right up to but not over the measure where they have to do all kinds of things which cost money. It's an enigma...

I do not buy a truck purely bases on looks, it has to be the totality of the truck, if all specs are comparable and pretty much equal, I buy the one that I like to look at. But looks are not the number one thing for me not by a long shot. For example, when I am looking at HD (dually) trucks from the big 3 all are pretty much the same with the same basic capability and the same crappy reliability and resale, when I am buying one of those, it will come down to looks and the best deal at contract time. ( Usually Ram wins those...lol)

At least Toyota didn’t adopt the
Lexus front ends. Those are Horrendously ugly
