2018 Crewmax stays too long in 1st & 2nd gear when cold ?

2WD Crewmax has 5.7L V8 gas engine. From the day I bought it, it seems to stay in 1st and 2nd gear a bit too long for my tastes, maybe 1 or 2 sec, but only when cold. By "too long", I mean relative to other vehicles I've driven. Passengers dont even notice it.

Truck is approaching end of 3yr warranty & I took it to dealer "just in case" it's a sign of trouble down the road, dont want some $5000 repair bill in a year.
    Dealer reports "no trouble found".

Question: Is the slightly sluggish 1-2 upshift "normal" or "typical" ?

Newer cars & trucks with their "lifetime sealed" transmission seem far more sensitive to trans fluid level than "old school" vehicles ... and without a dipstick, it's a pain to check for accurate fluid level in Tundras .

At what RPM is it shifting......that would tell a lot more than "it stays in 1st and 2nd too long"

My tundra does this too. My 2000 4runner also does this, I always figured it was some safety feature built in to keep gear low until warmed up. My 4runner has been doing it for 21 years and has never shown any other signs of it being a problem.

IIRC, it will 1-2 shift at about 2000-2200 rpm with gentle throttle, when cold ... but I could be remembering wrong.

I never really gave it much thought but now that you mention it I do feel like 1st and 2nd wind out a little more when the truck isn't warmed up fully.

Its in open loop until it warms up and goes closed-loop.
Assist the truck to heat up to operation temperature just like the lock up converter wont until closed loop.

    9000 miles. No towing.
"Normal" usage, is not Toyota's "Special Operating Conditions" (dirt roads or dusty roads, towing, heavy vehicle loading)

My truck definitely holds 1st longer than usual when cold. Then, when warm, it becomes annoying and always shifts at 5 MPH lol

    This ^^^.

All good OP. Move on to figuring out how to get a Dirty Deeds exhaust fitted to your steed.

Based on replies, I'll consider this "normal" behavior and not worry about it.
Dealer's shop foreman also told me "typical" behavior, but it's very helpful to compare against real world Tundra owners.
I was a bit concerned because wife's older BMW X5 doesnt have this behavior, neither did my mid-1990s Chevy truck with 5.7L small block and 4-speed auto trans.
