Time for a new battery?

I have to jump my Tundra if it sits more than 2 days. It is a 2018 that I got new in Feb 2018. So the battery is about 28 months old.
What kind of life are y’all getting from your batteries?
I am in the Phoenix area, so heat is a definite factor.

 

I would day it is. My father's did the same thing. His original lasted about 2 years. This last Optima was 4ish. This time he went with a Walmart battery since optimas don't seem to be lasting very long.

 

You’re at 40 months and with the AZ heat I would say you are on borrowed time. I never make it much past 30 months.

 

40 months. Duh. I can’t believe I figured 28.Okay, now I feel better.

Got 48 months out of my 2017 27F. Went dead flat last week. Replaced it with a Costco Interstate battery, 3 year free replacement and 5 year pro rated. $102 OTD

 

I had Optima in my Tacoma for years, but I’m leaning toward Interstate. I’ve gotten Interstate batteries for my dump truck, my tractor, my motorcycle, and the quads and all are lasting a long time.

 

Wow, good to know. Internet price for a Interstate is $169.

I just bought an interstate for my camaro from Costco in April. I think it was 89 bucks.
The optimas in my other camaro don't seem to last. I replaced with another Optima but if it goes its getting a Costco battery

 

Mine went out right under warranty only had like 50 miles left.

 

I ditched the original Panasonic in my 2007 around 2011 or so and put in an over sized Diehard Platinum AGM with about 200+ more cold cranking amps. These were made by the same factory that makes Odyssey Batteries. Had to put a block of wood under it to get it to the right height but it’s longer and wider. Also had to extend my battery cables.

Still have the same battery in the truck to this day. It sees 100F plus in the summer and -27 in the winter. Far superior cold start performance vs the stock battery.

When I buy a new Tundra next year or in 2023 (assuming the new version doesn’t disappoint) one of my first orders of business will be to put in the largest AGM I can make fit in the allotted space.

I'd go with an Interstate MTP 24F, it has more CCAs than the bigger 27F.

I tried an X2Power AGM and it was nothing but a PITA...
6 months later bought the Interstate and used that $250 X2power for a $20 core charge exchange....

 

Mine went out after 30 months. Got it replaced under warranty, but next replacement is gonna be with Costco or Sam’s club.

 

2018 trd sport, 17,000 miles, went out to start my truck last Thursday….nothing, dim interior lights, it was toast. No warning or nothing and I had driven it earlier that day with no problems.

Took battery to get tested, cell dead, 129 bucks later, new battery.

Took my previous 2014 in for 10,000 miles service and they replaced the battery under warranty.

My experience is the factory batteries are garbage.

 

Whatever battery you get, do a through cleaning of the battery clamps and posts.
Even the thinnest undetectable layer of corrosion will be a problem..

I bought my 2017 truck new-off-the-lot in December of 2017. I'm still running the stocker. That means 4 years and 7 months. In the blazing southern summer heat. I'm gonna see if it will go this summer then replace it with an Interstate from Costco. Full disclosure: I practice very good battery management behaviors.

 

+1 for interstate battery.

 

How did you extend them out of curiosity? When mine dies that is my plan

 

I just bought new cables, and attached them to the old ones after removing the connections on the old ones since they were screwed on. Then wrapped in all neatly in electrical tape.

 

Still have original in my 2018. Battery has a date of 2017 on it. 82k miles in Colorado..

 

I had to replace my battery in my 2019 this October. It's sad it only lasted 2.5 years. I would check the water and recharge on a charger every 6 months. Wife's 2007 Corolla has a premium Exide that is 5+ years old and I expect to replace very soon. It only has about 80% capacity left. The table above must be true as we have been living in southern Florida and Arizona.

 

I’m going on 105 months with the factory true start.

That said I will be replacing it with the same.

How many have gone the 24F route? I bought a battery tester and my Tundra is failing the cranking test and the battery is showing 74% capacity.

guess I should replace it, so debating between the 27F and the 24…

 

My battery was from 8/18 and tested with a weak cell. Replaced it with a Costco Interstate 27F. I didn’t want to risk it.

 

Costco has decent prices and good warranty.

 

2018 , factory battery. Sits in storage for up to 6 wks., no Battery tender due to no electricity. Still starts up well. Only 7,461 miles on truck so maybe that helps. 34 Ford

 

So after a bunch of digging, I found that the standard is a 24F unless you have the heavier tow package, in which case, you get the 27F for the extra reserve capacity (think of the extra draw from a trailer).
