Just picked up my new '21 CM today, coming from an '18 DB. I didn't really notice so much yesterday on the test drive, but it feels like it doesn't have as much pep as my '18 did.

Obviously I can't remember exactly what my '18 was like when brand new. Has anyone noticed much of an increase in power with break-in? Even tow/haul mode feels a little more anemic than I'm used to, and I tended to drive my '18 with a fairly light foot.

    Thanks

I came from a '15 and notice a bit on the pedal acceleration, but after installing the pedal commander that delay has pretty much gone away. Not sure if that is what you are talking about?

I haven't had any previous Tundras but mine also felt kind of anemic when I first bought it. Now not so much even with 35s. The computer will learn your driving habits over time and should adapt.

Get a Hikeit, non bluetooth, but more options to chose from than the Pedal Commander. Hikeit has an Auto IQ mode that is intuitive to your foot pedal pressure. I'm in Auto IQ most of the time. You will be quite pleased with the result in that mode. Set it and leave it.

i have a 2020 TRD Sport with 7k miles, the acceleration was very odd the first 5k miles. I then learned to drive the truck in S5 and not D and the truck seems to respond so much better

Power to weight ratio is a thing. That being said, the power rear window is very nice! Yes, the damn switch location is awkward, maybe the engineer working on the design happened to be left handed and had a brain fart. Enjoy your new truck!

The 2nd gen had a more aggressive pedal/throttle response, which is more similar to the 3rd gen's tow/haul button being on. They made the 3rd gen more mushy and the tow/haul more aggressive.

I don't think it's because the CM is heavier. The throttle just felt more responsive in my '18. But as said, that may change as it adjusts for my driving habits and breaks in.

I think mine got a little more peppy after was broken in. Plus it learned my driving habits and quit short shifting first.

My dad has a Limited CM ‘17 and I have a Limited CM ‘21– there’s a noticeable difference. His without tow haul mode on is comparable to mine with TH mode on.

Yeah, that's almost how I'd describe it, maybe to a slightly lesser degree. And I haven't use tow/haul in my '21 much yet.

How many miles on your '21?

I’m closing in on 1,000 miles— I’ve only had it a couple weeks. I’ve done a lot of driving in his Tundra and the aggressive nature of his pedal compared to mine was immediately noticeable. Of course he covers the gas bill on his truck so maybe the difference was a mix between the truck and my foot :bananadance:

If thats the case then I wouldn't want to drive a '17, or something is wrong with your truck. I don't drive with tow haul mode in the city because I cant even takeoff from a red light without the thing throwing me back at the slightest touch and jerking around. Touching the pedal at all at normal speed causes a downshift and rev past 3500RPM.

When I got my Tundra it felt sluggish, but after the Pedal Commander, Stillen CAI, and BAMuffler I may need to upgrade the brakes. :mudding:

Just an inquiring mind here but what’s your dad’s truck like with the TH engaged? Maybe they made it more conservative on the years prior…

I think you’re onto something, from my recollection it’s certainly not as noticeable as in my truck. It seemed like it just prohibited it from going into higher gears and held the shifts off a little bit. With TH on in my truck it’s like a rocket, for example driving (playing) around while my wife shops I don’t feel comfortable with TH engaged in shopping centers. The ‘17 is nearly like that by default it seems.

Older threads (on other forums) indicate the only difference with TH mode engaged is shift points, There’s pretty obvious throttle response in my ‘21 and I think others would agree… gasp— maybe there have been incremental changes to this 14 year old truck?

It’s possible. My 21 doesn’t seem to have as much pep as my 17, but I figured it was just my imagination. The 17 has a lift and the 21 doesn’t, so the whole thing feels different.
My 2011 DC will absolutely smoke the other ones though. I certainly miss that.
