Planning the first road trip and am facing the fact that there’s no place for the 8-track or cassette tapes in the 2021 Tundy. There’s not even a place for those new CD’s purchased during the mullet, Camaro days.

How am I supped to crank the Isley brothers, Atlanta Rhythm Section and Molly Hatchet?

Are the cool kids using some sort of solid state device that plugs into that USB thing? So I go online to buy singles?

    How’s this stuff work?

Satellite radio ain’t my cup of tea.

This whole thing is blowing my mellow.

Do I need more than a dial up connection to score 45’s?

Thanks for the reply. Not a troll.

The CD player on my old computer is broken. Our new laptops have no CD player.

Looking for a good site where I can purchase music to load onto a portable solid state device that will interface with the USB input. I think this is all I need to pipe the music to the Tundra, but not sure.

The only thing that comes to mind is apple itunes, but I’m guessing that even this is so yesterday.

Thought I would check in the crew to see if folks could point me in the best, cost effective direction.

Were it me (and if I didn't have an iPhone 12), I'd probably buy an iPod Touch and sync it up with iTunes. Either that, or grab a USB stick and manually copy files to/from it.

My wife uses Apple Music. I spent the time, and it was a long period of time, putting all my CDs content on my computer and then downloaded it to my phone. Now I just put my phone in to the USB or Bluetooth. We also have an old iPod loaded with some good stuff. Then XM radio. I’m still too cheap to pay for Apple Music although it’s pretty Unlimited on what do you want to listen to.

Ok, so if you have a large collection of CD's, and you don't mind putting in a little effort, I'd pick up an external DVD/CD Rom drive for your laptop. They're relatively cheap (one I linked is about $23.00, and it shows it may also have a 25% off coupon at the moment...).

Then, I'd rip the desired CD's to my computer, and finally, load them to a USB drive to use in the Tundara.

Now, if you would rather just buy the music, then it would depend on what phone you have. If you have an iPhone, then Apple Music is perfect. You can buy music through there and use it via your iPhone hooked into your Tundra (either by bluetooth connection or USB). There appear to be ways to get some free trials with Apple Music if you've never used it before.

Also, if you have certain plans through Verizon (they tend to be the unlimited monthly plans), they include Apple Music as a "perk". May be something else to check.

Android? I'd probably go with Amazon Music (and you can apparently get a FREE 4 month trial right now, so could sign up for it, and just be sure to cancel before trial is up, and it'd be free for your road trip)

Hope that at least gets you started a bit...

Just read your the multimedia manual that came with your truck carefully. I bought a big USB to hold all my music and it's not compatible with my truck. So now I have some of my music on the half dozen small thumb drives I had around the house.

Good info. The old lady just purchased an external DVD drive so we can start loading in a few days. Turns out she already has itunes, ipod, apple play and all that apple stuff. I am on an iphone, too.

Checked out Spotify. Definitely looks interesting. At first glance it seems like the way to go for loading tunes I don’t yet have.

I have three iPods loaded with about 30 days worth of music. The only problem is, I think they are as dated as 45s now. A lot of newer head units won't support them now. My older, 6 years, Kenwood does. I either rip CDs or download digital versions. Amazon will throw in the digital version for most albums that you buy. I also had to stop updating iTunes. Every update supported less ipods and more I everything else. An attempt to make you toss perfectly good equipment and buy a new ipadmactab MCMXII I guess.

I've got these, at least iTunes still supports the big one, it's only half full. At least the version that I have does. I got the nano from my daughter because, "no one uses ipods anymore."

I have two Classics, a white 80 GB and a black 160 GB. I had a bonus from work so I bought the black one around the time they discontinued them and kept it in the box against the day the white one, which I've been using for about 15 years, eventually died. That happened this year (seems to be a short in the headphone jack so I only have sound on one side) so now I'm using the black one. I had been carefully trimming my library to try to get it all to fit on the 80 GB but, now that I don't have that concern, I've been spending most of my time working from home checking out new stuff on YouTube to see what I want to add to my library.
