Noah I agree with what others have said.

I hated looking through resumes. They always have the same shit written on them so I skim over the summary and look for accomplishments. Similar to what others have said if I see bad grammar or bad spelling or the format isn't uniform I skip it. I have horrible grammar myself so call me a hipocrite. You have to find a balance of keeping it short while still telling the good stuff. Bullet points help a lot.

Where the rubber hits the road is really in meeting a candidate. Somebody with an outgoing personality will usually win. Somebody who can speak comfortably is good, if I question what they did at past jobs and they can't explain it they're out.

You have a lot of good qualities and knowing the crazy hours you work means you're dedicated. Knowing you're on the fence tells me you're loyal. Knowing how much thought and hard work you put into your truck tells me you aren't satisfied letting shit be. I would hire you quick if my office had real work from home openings.

 

In that case, list your best qualities in a way that can be applied universally. Good at problem solving, identifying root cause, applying long term solutions. Things like that.

 

@Tundra2 interview the interviewer - ask about the company, about training & growth opportunities. Is it a place you will enjoy? Is it a place you can contribute to & make better?
I want to see 'something' that the candidate will be more than just a butt collecting a check. Most hiring people (I believe) actually believe in the company & want the right people that will make the company better & not give them 'issues' day to day.
But it's true, they are desperate. You are worth more than you think & they will pay more than they want to at this point.

 

Amendments for you to consider.
- Proficient in the maintenance and operation of Toshiba injection molding machinery including tuning of molds
- Experienced in operation and maintenance of vacuum-actuated material handling/delivery systems
- Experienced in operation and maintenance of forklifts (add all pertinent forklift classes here if applicable)
- Understanding of electrical systems/circuits **Elaborate here on what you actually know. Wiring 3-phase? 110v? 220v? 1.21JW?
- Understanding of hydraulic-actuated machinery **Elaborate here on what you actually know. Maintenance? Diagnosis? Operation?


Also, don't put periods at the end of your bullet-pointed remarks. They're not sentences.

 

Since it's a job fair, customize your resume for the job you want. List your accomplishments, training, and any leadership roles you've taken, special projects, custom work, anything that will make you stand out. Brag on yourself, no one else will, and everyone else there will be bragging on themselves. Good Luck, and happy job hunting!

Be true to yourself Noah….tell the truth but not necessarily the whole truth….for ex, you can weld, add level if/when they ask only. Others in the field can answer to accuracy of this ?/answer….have done drugs, answer truthfully. That might not be valid in todays job hunting and I would not know given my last resume was 4 decades ago with uncle sam. The qualities you have shown here just in your posts, tells me you’ll make someone a good employee.

My road bike tires have been loosing strings for a while now. They have a few thousand miles on them so I won't complain to much. Today is new tire day. This weekend we will be at a really spread out campground and a blowout would suck.

 

I got the hybrid type road tire for my bike, so I still have some traction when I take it slightly off road

I mostly stick to the road and a bit of gravel with this bike. It's fun and fast. It's actually fine on anything dry. If there is wet grass or mud and my only hope is momentum.

Late to respond to the convo, but hopefully some input that helps you out.

1. They have experience (if hiring for management position), but not baggage or poor traits picked up from past positions / employers. Nothing is worse than speaking with someone who has been doing something the same way for 10 years ("experience"), but low and behold they've really just been doing it wrong for 10 years. If an entry level position, interpersonal skills are always a plus, even if the position doesn't directly require it. It shows to me that you can speak clearly and are willing to ask questions, instead of just going with the flow until something fails.
2. Tenure at prior (or current) positions. If someone has bounced around historically, what makes me believe they'll be invested in our company? Others have stated otherwise, but I also absolutely judge grammar on a resume. The resume doesn't need to be Pulitzer Prize level writing, but make damn sure you know the difference between they're, there and their...
3. Plain resume with short, bulleted skills and experience. DO NOT slap a 5 page resume on someone's desk, unless for some very specific reason it was requested in the requisition.
4. Someone who is vocal about willingness to learn new skills and work in a dynamic environment. Some people are completely fine with doing the same thing day in / day out, and good for them, but it's not what I look for. I need staff that is willing to put in extra time/effort when it's requested or when the opportunity comes up, isn't just looking to turn out at 40, and is continuously looking for ways to improve themselves (being available for new projects, asking about trainings/certs/professional development, the next job, etc.). The quicker I can build confidence in an employee, the quicker I myself have confidence in them, and the quicker the daily hand holding stops.

@Tundra2, where's the goal/objective statement at the top? (i.e. Seeking job in blah blah blah utilizing my current skillset) Are you looking for the same job (no goal needed) or something with greater responsibility?

Seek a better position? List classes/responsibilities to steer you in that direction.

I gotta get back on my bike this month. I have the same problem with my tires, on dry pavement they're sweet but taking a turn through anything remotely slick is scary. I even slid riding over some painted asphalt, the stupid yellow lines for the crosswalk. Glad I spent all those years as a kid practicing my skid technique.

Actually sounds fun right now, get going top speed and ride into somebody's grass to lock up the rear brake and see how far you can slide. What a great pastime as a kid.

 

I'd also suggest getting rid of the red line below. Employers typically don't care if you had a cert. They want to know what is current.

Also - leadership, critical thinking and task/goal oriented are skills (and good ones at that) and likely better suited in that portion of the resume in my opinion.

 

Dude, you forgot to mention "dank memelord" on there. 100% will get you hired.

 

While we're talking about this, I absolutely hate applying for things where I have to upload a resume then it makes you fill in all the same damn information in the next step. Why the hell did I upload it if you're ask for it all over again?

 

I’ve never needed an resume. LOL but then again ive been at the same place for 7 years. They hired me on the spot just because I fixed my truck in the parking lot!

Awesome area, great hunting and land is still relatively cheap. Good spot for a summer place, at that elevation you would probably see 6+ feet of snow on the ground.
