Why hasn't this Tundra sold? Is there a red flag I'm overlooking?

I'm still figuring out the different packages and options on Tundras and I can't understand why some Tundras get snatched up immediately and others don't. I drove this one today and here are the noteworthy options/info:

    $39,900
    2018 SR5 Doublecab w/ FFV
    39K miles
    TRD Off road pkg
    Dual exhaust
    38 gallon fuel tank
    Lane departure system
    Pre-collision system
    Dynamic radar cruise control
    Undercarriage coating for rust prevention
    Spray in bedliner
    Bed rails

It's certified, so it will have 7 yrs/100K drivetrain warranty. It's in beautiful shape...exterior is 9.5/10, interior is 8/10. Non smoker vehicle.

The salesman says he thinks they've had it about a month, but the manager has been driving it. Does that mean that they just haven't had it listed so he had a car to drive? (May seem like a dumb question, but I haven't bought a car from a dealer in many years, so I don't know how they operate)

Or...is there something about this color/option combination that are turning people off? I would think this would be a very desirable truck for buyers. The price is very much in line with other new/used Tundras I've looked at.

    Appreciate your thoughts!

As long as the carfax is clean and a thorough test drive shows no issues I'd grab it. Once in awhile due to random circumstance trucks just sit on the lot. Like my truck, several employees at the dealership told me they couldn't believe how long it sat before I got it.

Thanks! Carfax is clean, one owner, but it also only reflects the first oil change, which bugs me. I suppose other maintenance could've been done and not made the carfax, but I don't know how that works.

If someone repairs something on their own carfax knows nothing. It is not fail proof.
    Does TRD always mean 4X4?
I paid less for a new 21 last month but mine is a strippo longbed 4x4 DBC.

I wouldn't worry about that for several reasons. First of all my assumption is they did their own maintenance like how I do. The Carfax for my truck will show nothing at all if I can help it. Secondly since it's a CPO that warranty is a great warranty. Lastly these are pretty reliable trucks so even if the owner slacked off a little bit on maintenance you should be fine.

Well the interior clearly looked "lived in" by the manager, so I have to believe they really haven't been aggressively advertising it. And...the photo spot on their website said "coming soon" and didn't have a picture.

Seems to me TundraDude34 noted one used Tundra that wasn't selling on his weekly lot visits. Maybe just one of those things. Perhaps there was a more desirable used vehicle at that lot or other nearby lot that buyers just preferred. In any event, use it as a bargaining chip if you want it.

Personally I really like red trucks...but would never buy one. But that is just me.

Some people shy away from the color Red worried they’ll get pulled over more and you mentioned mgr drove it which means it spent less time on display. Truck looks good, if it fits your needs then go for it!

Yeah, I thought so too. A different dealership had a red 2018 limited for about 3 weeks. It only had 13K and looked showroom new. I could've bought it for $44K, but didn't pull the trigger. Kicking myself on that one.

Another red one, 2020, with 10K, limited, they were asking $49K at a different dealership, sold same day it hit the lot.

Ask the dealer for the Toyota care records that would show the oil changes. Also if dealer serviced then they have access to all service records.

Because people want the amenities that the 2020 and 2021 have. Not gonna lie, traded my 2016 in on a new 2021 in December for the proximity keyless entry/ push button start and android auto. Lot of people bash on the TSS system but I've enjoyed having radar cruise which I didn't expect to like because of all the issues I read about when they first implemented it in 2018.

Thats a clean truck. If that color had been on th elot whne I got my cement tundra I probably would have went that red.

I had a flame red 89 gmc step bed, love that flame red.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of red either, but truck buyers are making compromises these days.

Most likely nothing at all wrong with it. Sales manager gets to have a demo, a lot of dealerships rotate them about once a month so they don’t get all miled up. During that time they are going to make no effort to sell the demo, and may not even list it as inventory on the website etc.

Now the sales manager is in a new to him/her demo and this one is going up for sale.

I’d rather not list. My wife might see it.
If the truck is being driven by the manager then that is my best guess why it hasn’t sold. It’s just not available for viewing/ test drive like the others in the lot.

Although many of us here consider these trucks as recreational vehicles, most who consider buying these trucks are for work purposes. Red for commercial trucks is not the first pick.

I think that color looks awesome on a Tundra. From your original note the only thing that caught my eye was the FFV. As someone else already mentioned, that should not be something to be worried about but it could be a potential turn off for some. Seems like there have been many comments throughout the forum on the FFV and most just use regular gas. Don’t think anyone messes with the E85. My guess is that problems arise when different gas is used.

I'm surprised they'd let the manager drive it given how much demand there is for trucks right now.

I think DBL Cab is part of it…you said interior looked lived in but my question is, was it smoked in? That is 100% no go.

I dont think Red is an issue… Toyota has the best red color out there.

HAD the best red color out there. Barcelona Red is awful compared to Radiant Red, which I believe they stopped producing in 2016.

I got pulled over frequently in my red one. It was either the color, or that I was always speeding. Not sure which.

Every time I drive my wife's 13 Explorer, I miss the adaptive cruise. I keep creeping up on people and eventually realize how close I've gotten. Drives me nuts. The only thing I don't like is when I do a quick lane change to the right in heavy traffic so I can let someone pass. If the vehicle in the right lane is very close when I cut over, the ACC will hit the brakes pretty hard. I don't think it's the safest thing, but at this point I've pretty much got myself trained to flip the switch before I go.
