You know what tune they're going to run on the Tundra? How about a couple easily swapped parts. Especially with boosted engines thats a huge factor. A Ford 3.5 can push out over 700 HP (https://tfltruck.com/2019/10/how-mu...-ecoboost-make-how-about-720-hp-at-the-crank/) with just a tune and small parts. Just a tune and it looks to be in the 75 HP range. So it's still possible the Tundra could have a good chunk more power than the LC300. Are they likely to go much higher, not likely since the Hybrid PU is the one they'll crank up. The 3.5TT is just going to be the base engine.

I believe I am the same way I towed with an ecoboost before for example it got really only 6mpg and 7 on a good day while my Tundra gets 10-11 towing the same load. While unloaded the ecoboost obviously got more than my Tundra I would rather have higher MPGs while towing. For the most part I am wary of things like start stop and cylinder deactivations in trucks as a whole which is another reason I did like the Tundra. The next time I am going to end up getting a truck I am looking at a 6.6L Gas Chevy 2500 it gives me a lot more wiggle room for payload and overall if I do go that route it will handle my needs perfectly for my hauling and towing needs while not having cylinder deactivation and start stop. This is all depending on how much more payload the Next Gen Tundra gets though and if it does have a TTV6 and no V8 how much mpg it gets while towing. Either way it's going to be a few years before I do get a new truck.

I think people really underestimate how many Ford f150 get bought just because it says Ford f150 and nothing else. I know guys with f150 and they don't even know what motor is in there.

Don't get too caught up and believe those other brand pickups published City/Highway MPG, I bought a 2012 Ford Lariat twin Turbos 6 Cyl in 2012 after looking at the Tundra also who only had 17/13 which I think is the same today in 2021 on my new one.

Anyway gas was high at the time $ 3.50-4.00 p/gal and wanted the better better gas mileage and went with the ford and total mistake, and I never got better than 17 mpg on the highway and 12 mpg in the city on the ford Lariat. It had all the bells and whistles and load with options and turned into a total piece of junk after 50K miles, and worst truck I ever owned.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ford played with the computer systems to get those high MPG for certification, and then changed it back after, just like Volkswagen did, but didn't get caught like Volkswagon did. I think Toyota gives the real numbers for MPG and really regretted not buying it in 2012, all that extra stuff in Ford, GMC, and Dodge seems to bust more than the Toyota I think, and the best pickup I have ever owned was a Tacoma SR5 long bed 1997 I think and went 300K before I sold it.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
My post wasn’t specifically in comparison to competitors at the time, it’s in the context of today’s 1/2 ton market.

well, to be fair, the 70k ram is a 55k ram that they "discount" down to pretend they're giving you a TOTAL BARGAIN! when really, you're just buying the 55k truck at full value...

Well, that’s what I get for posting about a GMC in a 2022 Tundra thread in a Tundra forum. Can’t get butt-hurt like those Ford guys!

That's how all the domestics are. When I was shopping a few years ago I went to look at a gm and a salesman came out and first thing he said to me was "we can take 15k off the sticker right now".

I might be the minority and don't prefer large screens. I don't need 12 inches, it's not the size that matters it's how it functions to satisfy me.

On a more serious note, I can't stand control integrations into the infotainment for anything other than infotainment. Especially HVAC controls.

    I like it... lol.

Seriously, if I wasn't more concerned with reliability I'd have bought the ram. I do like the toys. I just won't give up quality to get them. I just wouldn't consider a Ford if all other vehicles were actively on fire. But that's just because I've never owned a ram.

I have to admit that I like much of what Ram is doing. And yes, I agree on more than a few things that Tundras need updating.

    However, here's my past experience:

    - 1995 F250 - LOVED the 7.3. Replaced starter, turbo, fuel filter preheater, starter again, rear axle, and a bunch of other stuff.
    - 2002 Ram - I can't remember everything (exhaust manifold 2x; valve body; etc.). Was in the shop SEVENTEEN TIMES in 18 months.
    - 2003 F150 - admittedly, I had to change almost nothing on it, which is why I bought a...
    - 2013 F150 - media system SUCKED (e.g., had to reset it weekly), 4 different TSBs, rear window replaced 3x in warranty, valve body separator plate, driver's side rear door latch would not stay shut in cold weather (and given it was a SuperCab, that means that ENTIRE SIDE wouldn't stay shut), and I could go on.

    Meanwhile, my last 3 Toyotas:

    - 2000 4Runner - nothing.
    - 2012 Highlander - nothing.
    - 2020 Tundra - HVAC solenoid something.

So yeah....is Tundra behind the competition on several things? Yes they are. But statistically they ARE more reliable; and as I showed above, those claiming 'reliability' aren't always doing so as a hedge against other trucks innovating. It's because actual experience has matched up with what statistics have shown. If others want to chalk that up to being butthurt because others are innovating, I mean, feel free to.

NOW...with that said, if the 2022 Tundra impresses and I can trade mine in for a decent deal, would I? Hell yes. LOL I don't care if 'others are better.' I simply care if Toyota updates stuff, and brings some more hauling capability and increased MPG to the table, while not sacrificing reliability. :)

Wife's new Subaru Legacy has a big screen like that it is hard to get used to especially since my Camaro and Tundra have 7 or 8 inch screens instead.

My concern with this is the experience at work with the Dodge Rams similar setup. We've had multiple of the screens fail in the Ram fleet and when they do, you're calling a tow truck because you can't even drive them anymore.... Stupid.

That unfortunate for you and your crew. However that’s not because of the size of the screen but rather because it’s a Ram. :D

If Toyota does similar to Ford it's manageable. I too prefer the 7-8" screens (guess my vision is good enough I don't need a bigger screen ;)) but at least this way it looks integrated into the dash, unlike the Ram it looks like a total afterthought then 'oh crap, we need to fit this screen somewhere'.

You guys see the 2022 Lexus NX announcement? Optional 14” screen. Horizontal of course.
