What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

De-badged her! I was mildly nervous as is a 14 and wondered about old adhesive or paint differences but it went very well and only took about 90 mins. I trialed the 4x4 first and then went all in. For other 040 owners with similar age trucks (as can’t guarantee same results with other colours) my procedure was;
-somewhat cautious heat gun use, lifted badges with an old plastic spatula. Also used a bit of heat to push along the bulk of the adhesive to form a ball to pull off.
-WD40 and an old sweater to get the remainder of the dark adhesive off.
-WD saturated paper towel and elbow grease to get remaining white adhesive.
-Dawn powerwash spray to remove ghosting from wax around the decals
-Glass cleaner to clean up the Dawn and any misc.
-Quick rinse/wash off and dry
-Pilsner time!

 

Got rid of more chrome today
The picture of the chrome grill is from a couple weeks ago, and the others are today. I've been busy. SS3 yellow fogs are on order and TRD Pro headlights are coming soon too.

 

I bet that makes a spicy combo.

Back on topic.....

Busy ass day. Finally got my CB +2 shackles installed. Bushings were a bitch, but did come out in 1 piece. Also installed CB carrier bearing drop and brake extension brackets. While back there I went ahead and did the rear diff breather relocation behind the driver's tail light.

Also pulled the headlights to replace my side marker lights. The GTR leds were shot. After having 2 switchback lights and 2 sidemarker lights all go bad from GTR, I went with VLED triton 6 switchback bulbs and their amber sidemarker lights.

Lastly added 2 more screws to my front license plate holder since it was bent forward from driving thru heavily flooded streets.

Plan on adjusting my headlights tonight since I no longer have a negative rake from my Eibach Stage 2s and stock shackles.

 

Changed the oil in the rear diff and T case, wasn't burnt but abitof metal on the magnet. I'll do front diff when my cat plates arrive, only want to remove Victory skid plate once.

 

Went to get an oil change and inspection at the stealership, just to get an idea of what they’re gonna try to charge me for timing tensioner replacement, and I’m never going back. Thanks for trying though.

 

The war on chrome continues:
Debadged and swapped out the chrome mirror covers for black.

Up next after vacation: Black bumper caps for the front then install the AJT interior blackout kit. Firmly undecided on the door handles...

 

But did you add bump stops with your shackles???


…sorry. I spent a long day on some one else’s roof cleaning off moss. I’ve got a sunburn, I’m hungry, I’m half way through a good strong beer, I’m cooking dinner, and I’m glad someone else said what I had been thinking this morning.

Thanks for reminding me I should re-aim my headlights after putting the Westcott on the front.

 

Had a Yota party in the desert today.

 

I have to be misreading. Spark plugs can't be $480.

 

Man I bet they were sad to see that mortgage payment price quote leave the shop..

 

Outrageous prices including $44 for the cabin filter... Literally takes longer to walk to the parts counter to get that filter than it does to change it. Dealers suck! Actually surprised about the transmission service, would have thought that would be a lot more.

 

I went in for a brake job in my last Tundra a couple years ago because I had heard it starting to bark at me. I went to a new dealer because they had a special going.

Turns out during the prior TWO services the other dealer never checked the rear brake pads because they were reported as fine but in actuality were nearly gone. I actually shit a piston out on the freeway to the appointment for the brake job.

The new place decided they needed to do a “full assessment” because I was bleeding brake fluid everywhere when I pulled into the dealer. They came back with an $11k estimate! New rotors, calipers, and brake lines all around, new steering assembly and flush, new oil pan, coolant flush, water pump, and it just kept going. Truck was over 225k miles at that point.

I couldn’t leave without brakes so I settled on rear calipers and rotors, pads, and a system bleed and fill, which I had to leave it overnight without any offer for a loaner (wife had to drive 1-1/2 hours to pick me up, and a coworker dropped me off the next day on his way home). When I picked it up the next day and paid them, I told them they’d never see me or any of my extended family inside their doors ever again…

 

Not a big deal but hauled 20 bags of lava rocks from Home Depot. A big shout out to the teenager who loaded the bags on the cart and then followed me out to my truck and proceeded to load all 20 bags in the back. With a bad back, he made my day. I managed to finish the project with my back brace and a lot of ice water(98F today). Then I emailed corporate to explain how that young person gave me great confidence in his generation.

 

Good for you. Every generation complains about the work ethic of the next. I tend to believe it’s not the generation as much as simply the perception. There are hard working people born every day…and acknowledging them helps encourage them to continue and see value in it. That’s how I was raised, and that’s how I’ve raised my kids.

 

Finished a couple more projects. The front camera, skid plates, and preped for some more toys

 

Installed the TRD front sway bar and did the first oil change. LOVE the front sway bar. Big difference, IMO. Highly recommended!!

 

You re-use everything but the bar itself.

 

What switch panel is that in the business card holder. It looks much “cleaner” then others I have seen.
