I believe, Toyota is Capable of making a Tundra that gets 40mpg……

Yet ,they choose not to. If They offer a 30 mpg Highway,22 city Crewmax 4x4 hybrid with a 6cyl turbo and slightly worse mpg 8cyl hybrid- I think many will be happy.

The hybrid Gasser is the alternative to the diesel option here in the NA market, Unfortunately.

Or they have the 6cyl Twin Turbo that gets 18/22 with the Hybrid option and no longer offer the 8cyl. I think that’s foolish, and A bad marketing idea to us Here in USA that Live out v8s

Lexus IS Toyota…. is it not? Not many Lexus Lundras Cruising around that I’ve seen.
It was the same with the Lx 470 and Land cruiser or Lx 570 and Land cruiser. Less fancy Tech / Imterior and same reliable vehicle. I’m not getting huffy, Just saying- The R&D is essentially Toyota that eventually gets to the Toyota Vehicles.
Now let me Talk about Ford some more- Na ! Pretty sure that horse is down and no need to kick it any further.
How about the Engine discussion that we actually don’t even know the details about... Of the Tundra- Perhaps some insight as to MPG and what some here are thinking about that?
Now we can talk Dodge- yet we covered that.
I’d rather hear about Mpg, Power and 6cyl Twin Turbo being non premium fuel… or speculation if the 8 cyl will be dead -no arrival- or is a hybrid a possibility.
Now we can talk Chevy , Yet why?

Point is -I’m not getting Huffy about anything - Just trying to stay on a Good topic-

Mpg and the Reliable Toyota Tundra that many here Really like and Buy and want to talk about.

I'm expecting 25-30 mpgs highway driving. I know that will probably drop significantly while towing, but that is a small portion of most of our driving. The other manufacturers all have an option in that range, and this configuration is probably going to be around for another 15 years.

no, my interior is a mismatched mess for 50k plus. Fine last time, but this time I’m guessing we are going to be 60k, need it to be better, like the area around the radio for example, machined grey that doesn’t match anything on top , then right underneath painted lighter grey that doesn’t match anything else either

chrome accents , light grey, several mismatched blacks , then the darker grey stripes by the glove box, it just wasn’t very well done

The interior of my truck looks good to me. If it wasn't "mismstched" then you would undoubtedly be complaining that it's too monochrome.

Agreed. I look at Platinums along the same line as the Ford Lariat / Ram Laramie packages. While I do like the quilted leather in my Platinum, the Lariat / Laramie soundly trounce it most everywhere else in the interior.

Which is all fine, and I knew that when I purchased the truck.

Edit: The interior of my Pro 4Runner is much the same. Random carbon fiber, some machined finish, some satin, some textured, randomness.

I agree wholeheartedly! I'm a member of an F150 group and nobody there spends all day bashing other brands. It's very childish and overly fanboy-ish with some here. Then all of the anecdotal "evidence" that Ford is so terrible ... Now someone is trying to compare a Nissan to Ford! LOL! Nissan ... the "Dodge of the Asian car world." Funny!

I have an F150 on order yet I signed up here because once I heard the strong rumor that they're finally going to offer the 6.5 bed in a crew cab, it put the Tundra on my radar and I'm strongly considering cancelling that order (if they can even build it in the first place). That and I'm a little nervous with all of this super high tech Ford (and others) keep adding and adding to the vehicles. Massaging seats using a computer filling tiny airbags over and over? Yeah, nothing's going to go wrong with that! :D Combine that with the "toasted chip" issue and I'm expecting a lot of ghosts in the machines. The old saying "don't buy a car made on a Monday or a Friday" - well we've had a year of nothing but Mondays and Fridays. I imagine the story for 2022 will be waiting for an appointment for 3 months for warranty work. THAT is why I'm looking at Toyota now and only if they up their game with this 2022 because up until (potentially) now the Tundra has absolutely NOTHING on the big three except for one GIANT thing: reliability.

Will be real interesting around here if Toyota delivers another game changer like they did back in 2007. Time will tell. At least we know the other manufacturers will have 15 years or so to catch up again.

Actually Nissan makes pretty good trucks and they are reliable, albeit boring. Kind of like Toyota. I happen to like boring and tend to choose less bells and whistles. All the manufacturers excel at certain aspects. Dodge/Ram probably has the best interior. Ford excels at meeting numbers. GM excels at taking taxpayer money.o_O. They all have one issue or another or lack in one way or another. It is what it is. There is no perfect vehicle and never will be.

Interesting comments. I certainly can not see how Toyota is going to make something that is 15 yrs advanced. Ford certainly is ahead of the game compared to 2007. I can not imagine what Toyota could do that would be that far ahead of anyone.

Great point, the 2021 Tundra is over a decade old, almost two decades. I and so many others just see Toyota building a copy of a Ford product. Hopefully with higher level of overall quality. Thing is the TTV6 in the LS is not a great engine and mechanics don’t have a lot of positive things to say about the engine or working on this engine. This will be a huge challenge getting Toyota mechanics at the dealership trained well enough to work on these engines. Historically the dealerships I’ve take my Tundra to have not had the brightest bulbs working in the service department.

Meant Toyota won't update the new design for 15 years so all the manufacturers will have a long time to catch up and pass. Like the current one.

Dude I'm scared to take my vehicles to any dealer service department. It actually causes me anxiety. When they can't even change the oil without issue there is a serious problem. Good service is all but dead and it's a crap shoot taking your vehicle in. Sad to say but if you happen to find a good mechanic/tech pray he/she doesn't retire.

Right, so how will these Toyota dealership be able to work on a TTV6 or TTV8? Sorry but the Toyota mechanics I’ve talked to are not Audi/Porsche educated. These are mostly right out of local technical college mechanic schools. After they get a couple years of training the good ones move to higher end branded dealership for a higher paying wage. More I think about this the more I will probably just wait 3-4 years to even consider this new Tundra.

Well - trying to put Ford down with a Nissan was the last straw! However, it's not much of a dig or zing when even Dodge is more reliable these days.

Truth is ALL vehicles today are a LOT more reliable across the board. As others have noted, you don't see many vehicles dotting the side of the road these days unless they were in an accident. I've owned many vehicles that Consumer Reports and others rated as horrific. They practically rated them by how many parts per mile would fall off and how many days per week they'd be in the shop yet gave me absolutely ZERO problems. In fact there were only two vehicles that left me stranded and needing a tow in the past THIRTY YEARS and ironically one was a Toyota. To be fair that was used 4Runner on a test drive. The other was a 1984 BMW.

You got it. I’ve only ever owned Toyota’s and Audi’s in my life, so I’ll be pretty straightforward if it ends up sucking.

    bullshit , that’s not how I roll .

Most of my comments are directed at the top of the line tundra, which I have and also since we aren’t talking about cheaper trucks these things are expensive now a days which is fine , but there is nothing wrong with wanting better materials and design as the price keeps going north.

So I guess if two trucks have similar engines, one must be copying the other, right? Did Toyota copy Dodge with their 5.7L V8 in 2007, too?

If it really and truly gets at least 25mpg on the Hwy, not just epa rated, without the hybrid, I'd be looking to buy one around March of next year.

That would put it real close to the same cost per mile as the 3.0 duramax before def cost is factored in and save me a heck of alot of money in fuel per year. Especially if a business venture I'm looking at pans out. I'll be driving 25-30k a year for work. 10 extra mpg over what my current truck gets would put alot more in my pocket instead of going into business expense.
More towing power is more important than towing mpg. I tow my boat twice per month and my TT 2-4 times a year. I already get single digits towing both of them so I really don't care if that's all the new one gets. Towing miles are a fraction of my yearly miles.

Now if the next gen only gets 20 or so, it's absolutely not worth it. I'll probably end up in a gmc if they can't manage more than that

I'm also in Ford groups and you're right, they don't go on much bashing other brands. They're generally too busy complaining about problems they're having or asking about check engine light codes. When I mentioned that I didn't love the new F150 and was thinking of going to the Tundra, all I heard was "Enjoy your time at the gas station" Really? That's it? I drive less than 7000 miles a year, but I need it to be good to go everyday.

Lol. I love my 21 f150, but I also loved my tundras. I would not get a 21 tundra though, as you will be getting 12-15mpg, and closer to 12.

Check out the threads on here about cam tower leaks, bed hop, and tss malfunctions.

For anyone that thinks the lc300 and tundra will differ, just look at what’s been released thus far, and you’ll see the hoods are identical.63F8C000-115E-4B8E-A2BE-0FE5E43856C0.jpg807B4C2F-250A-4561-A9F6-E3B33B5FFD38.jpg
