Upgrade 2018 Grille to TRD PRO Grille

Hi everyone,

looking to upgrade my 18 Sr5 Grille to the TRD Pro Grille. Has anyone had any issue with the TSS sensor after swapping out grilles? Been doing a bit of research and the mod looks somewhat easy to do but i see comments about how it would mess w/ the TSS sensor? And I have not seen any post yet about how to fix that problem.

 

search, upper right, there is a ton of info and threads on the topic. People do it all the time, change grilles, add lift to TSS equipped trucks.

Are you trying to go with the Cement surround too? I think you have three options:
1. Buy 2018-2021 Pro grille and swap the insert so you keep the chrome surround and have the TOYOTA-lettered grill. You'll need a garnish, either the $$$ OEM one, or try your luck with an Ebay one.
2. Buy pre-TSS Pro grille with cement surround and use the AJT TSS relocation bracket. https://www.ajtdesign-llc.com/online-store/TSS-Relocation-Bracket-10052B-p194252238
3. Buy both Pro grilles with surround and swap the TSS grille into the cement surround. Same issue with the garnish.

I got a look alike grill and garnish from empyreoffroad for about a 3rd of the price from Toyota. Sadly, I've still not installed it yet, but it looks really good.

I did the exact same thing last year. Have had no issues with the sensor. PM me and I can send you links for the videos I used or if you have any questions. I bought the OEM sensor plate but a lot of people got the knock off from Amazon for almost half the price. That's the only thing I would've done different.

 

I bought the same and had zero issues installing or with the TSS.

 

here is the pic of mine from Empryeoffroad. Again, no issues whatsoever and install was easy. Some users complained of the garnish being chipped or scratched but mine had zero imperfections.

 

What hood deflector is that?

 

AVS from Amazon. A lot of the ones out there don’t sit flush or are brittle but this one has held up perfectly and lays completely flush. Plus I like how it has the textured finish vs shiny plastic. There was on two pictures on the Amazon review but glad I went with it despite the gamble.

Have only had it about two months but I have no rock chips on the hood, don’t have any issues with noise and it doesn’t affect the windshield washer fluid at high speed like someone had said they do lol. Functionally it is exactly what I wanted and it isn’t “cheap” or plastic feeling. It’s a little more, but worth it for the fit and finish.

Here's some pics. You can get it with just the insert or with the surround. I did with so I can wrap the surround"close" to MGM . And swap the whole thing. My truck is a Sport and the honeycomb is metallic grey, where the new grill is black. I want to paint it. Thought of wrapping it but there's alot of little lines to wrap.

 

Would you say this was an easy installment? New to all this lol

I have not installed this yet. But I did on my other truck. It's not hard to do with a couple hand tools. 10mm socket.

 

Im looking to change my grill too. Is the bulge/surround a material that seems like it could be color matched at a shop? My tundra is black, I was thinking of getting it painted if the gloss black doesn’t look good.

also, I assume you bought a matching bulge, if so, where?!?

The grill I bought is not from Toyota. The place I got it, I don't think sell the bulge. I bought black cause I was gonna wrap it anyway with MGM. The black however looks pretty good. I do not know if it's the same as factory black on a Tundra though. And the only color they offer. I still have not put the grill on LoL. My truck is a TRD Sport and my honeycomb is grey. This grill is matte black. I really want it grey and have not had time to paint it wrap the honeycomb. Most likely will paint.

Edit. I just read my earlier post and I just pretty much repeated it. LoL Sorry.

 

Just a heads up. I watched several videos of guys pulling the grill until it pops off. its got 2 tabs that clip into the panels under the headlights. i got my hands behind it and pressed the tab and it popped out with very minimal effort. Install is super simple though.
