Hi there! I have a TRD PRO Sequoia and recently put a 2.5 spacer lift on it to keep the fox shocks. I put 35’s on it and it looks great. I was told that I would have some rubbing. No rubbing on the wheel well but rather if I turn sharp I do hear a rubbing noise but it’s from the tires on the axle top. Not familiar with part names and stuff so forgive me if I’m not giving accurate info. But that’s what it looks like. Do you sometimes need spacers or should I get different wheels to make my tires come out a little so that they wouldn’t do this anymore. See pics. I’m hoping this makes sense. A friend said my wheels were flush with the tires and therefor my tires do not come out any. But maybe if I had deeper wheels that this wouldn’t occur. Not sure if that’s the case but I figured I’d ask and see if anyone has ever seen this occur and know why this happens.

That’s your Upper Control Arm. You either need wheel spacers or a new wheel with lower offset to push the center of the wheels barrel away from the hub. You can’t run 35s on oem wheels due to the high offset. I would either get 34” or smaller tires, or start looking for new wheels with an offset lower than a +35

@Danman34 thank you!! Wonder why the people that put them on didn’t say anything.
I just got the tires and spent a ton so I’ll have to do the spacers or look for some cool wheels. How do I figure out the offset for wheels? I’m just a clueless girl over here ‍♀️

Few solutions here. Any will work with varying difficulty, price, and effect.

    1. Get new aftermarket UCA
    2. Wheel spacers
    3. New wheels

If you don’t want your wheels sticking out beyond the fenders, get UCAs. If you’re cheap or in a bind, wheel spacers.

Thank you! This helps me so much!! Thankfully I didn’t spend too much on the lift but the tires were expensive. I don’t mind them sticking out some.

unfortunately, aftermarket UCAs would actually rub more, as the ball joint is typically much bigger than the oem one is, making the clearance even less.

Look for either SpiderTrax or Bora spacers.

You might get by with two (one each side) over the lug bolt spacer rings about 3-5mm thick with a little bit longer lug bolts to make sure you still have adequate threads to hold the lug nuts tight. Just make sure any spacer is hub centric and make sure the wheel still has some hub surface to mate with.

Would it be best to just get new wheels? How do I find what offset I should be at This is so confusing lol

Yes, new wheels would be ideal. Expensive, but ideal. Tires are also an ideal option, just a different width and maybe slightly different height. Figure out the current offset and lets say its plus 60 and you want to move the wheel out a half inch then you would go to about plus 45. Each 15mm you subtract will push the wheel out slightly over a half inch.

You’re right. Had a case of the stupid and confused it with coil spring rub.

If you like your TRD Pro wheels then get 1”-1.25” spacers. The happy medium around here is +25mm offset if you do pursue new wheels. I’m sure someone would buy the Pro wheels off you if you sell them. Just don’t let the tire shop keep them or forget they’re there.

You also need to make sure the wheel center bore is correct to match the hub plus the lug bolt pattern such as 5 on 150

Personally I’d get spacers. Those TRD Pro Wheels look nice! But that’s just me.

Be aware, though, that by sticking the wheel out a bit, you may then encounter some rubbing in the front, plastic valance piece, right in front of the tire. I took mine out on my Tundra, but most folks take a heat gun to that plastic piece and then push it in to better clear the tire.

Your Sequoia looks awesome by the way.

Thank you!! I wanted to keep the TRD wheels but didn’t realize I would need spacers lol. Took it to a shop and you would think they would’ve noticed! I got some Nitto’s and I love how they look on the sequoia.
I’ve had my TRD PRO for almost 2 years and now someone local bought the same one so I knew then it was time to do some changes

You can always sell the tires if you want a simple solution, all is not lost just because you have bought them. Might lose a little, but at this point you are going to pay for something regardless of what it is.

So a buddy of mine owns a shop that does lift kits and wheels and tires and tint, etc. I reached out to him about the spacers and he said he will not do those as they are dangerous and a liability. Is this just to cover his butt?
And if I bought new wheels I wouldn’t have to worry about the spacers at all correct?
    I just don’t wanna screw anything up‍♀️

Depends on the offset of the wheels you would be buying. Why not just swap tires? Get some that work and sell the one's that don't. Up to you obviously. I would likely do thin rings in the front only with longer lug bolts if I could make every aspect of the entire wheel, hub, tire, ring, bolt system all function safely as a whole. Can't say because I don't have my hand on your truck and the parts to verify.

Nothing wrong with quality hubcentric spacers. But aftermarket wheels with a lower offset are ideal. There are no in between methods to gain clearance.

Is there paint missing on the control arm? These setups run the uca very close to the tire but it's not usually a problem. You may be rubbing on the tubular inside of the wheel well - look for missing paint.

+1 for Bora spacers. They can be had for ~$265
